Major disappointments all the way around when you cross show and go. Sure, one may act right, or look right or whatever. But the majority of dogs in the litter are worse than scatterbred. Different builds, conformation problems, lack of ability in most arenas, and mindset. Most amstaff/show pups that Ive (pers exp) messed w/ have more temperment issues to overcome than the game dogs Ive dealt w/. One of the people I knew I would outlast in this started his kennels w/ gr8 amstaff bloodX high performance dogs. One male out of 2 litters of 10 was worth anything... Needless to say, he isn't breeding dogs anymore after three years of disappointments. The show people didnt want his dogs, the go people laughed at him... Now he owns a beagle. JMO

To each their own. The pups in Terra's litter were surprisingly consistent. Conformational faults were no more than your average litter. We'll see in a few years how it all turned out. Me, I'll go with what works. ;)

I did ok in the looks and attitude department, 1st generation. The second generation I tightened it up a bit on the show side......I ended up with a litter of 8 with PRA.

Good thing the bogga boo presented early. From that point forward, the origanal 2 dogs were never bred again and the rest...well, they were never used for breeding and the pups out of the litter of 8 were all culled.

As with anything else, and for those of you who know me, know this to be true of me, I'd like to have a tight bred Lar Sans just to see with my own eyeballs. I have found that to be the best way to cut through the...poo.

Oh, and as to the mixing show and go, you just never know what can happen till you try it. I have seen some stuff that would leave many a sonvinced man scratching their heads, after emptying their pocket books!(back in the day of course. I am a three generational enthusyist(sp?))

bahamamutt, youre always on the defense when someone has anything going against what you own and basically whine about it but you seem to get off by throwing in your propaganda about their being better things for gamedogs then being gamedogs. You're always throwing in how sporting dogs is illegal and game checks shouldnt be part of owning the breed but you make sure to mention how you respect the past, lol

and just for your info the part of game checking that bothers you so much ISNT illegal to a lot of us here, not everyone lives in the US and boarders are near many of us.

gameness is everything and without it, you've created another breed, PERIOD...

and if game checking someday isnt not going to be involved lets just let the breed die off with dignity and honor to the original breed standard rather then breed CRAP AZZ DOGS

You're insane man. Of course Baha is going to be defensive. Duh. You would be too if someone took something you cherished & trashed it. Think about how you'd feel if someone began trashing your game dogs! You'd be on here "whining" too, just as much - if not more! Right or wrong, it's only human nature to defend what you love.

As for her "propaganda" (lol) I do not agree that there is anything better for a game dog but to be a game dog. Game dogs should be game dogs. But the sad, bad fact of the matter is if we want this breed to be around, those of us here in the U.S. better darn well find some constructive & LEGAL sports to partcipate in w/ our dogs. If we put out to JQP that all game dogs (re: pit bulls) are good for is fighting, well guess what - you might as well have put a bullet in their brains yourself!

Now do I agree w/ breeding only for show? No, I do not. But I'm not going to slam a breeder who does show, pulls, does agility or participates in any LEGAL dog sport b/c whether you like it or not, their participation makes our breed look good & it effectively kills the notion that all our breed is good for is to fight & thus can help save our breed.

As for taking dogs across borders to have them checked, 'cha right! I don't know if you've checked the laws recently, but in the U.S. merely transporting a dog to go to a dog fight is just as illegal as fighting one. So if you're going from Texas to Mexico to test a dog & get caught transporting the dog either there OR back, guess what - you're in jail & the dog is dead!

So get an effing grip Minor. Usually you post some nice stuff, but the last post was one of the most asinine things I've seen come off your keyboard.

she can answer for herself I'm sure, no need for all the women here to always defend each other which seems to always have been the norm on this board.

and yes the key word is propaganda, you are correct

Nice sexist remark there buddy. Now you're true colors are showing.

But since you brought it up, if you will notice, I defend men just as much as I do women & I tiff w/ more women than I do men. But more often than not I say nothing. I only speak up when it is obvious a poster (this time you) is WAY off base.

But before we get too in depth, you'd better go & hide under your tin foil hat. We evil GD.com women might be trying to read your thoughts through the fillings in your teeth & over throw the world.

You'd better watch out jason. We GD.com women are an evil bunch. We show & pull our dogs & some of us even do catch work, obedience, agility & therapy work in full view of JQP!!! We want these dogs to be around for generations to come, so we have well behaved dogs & promote our breed as a multi-facited working animal instead of keeping it shut away behind closed doors as a good for nothing fighter & closing off it's future like some kind of canine Hannibal Lector!

    Beware!!! We're evil!!! [IMG]

BTW to jman & Minor - no one said anything about not keeping the breed true (at least I didn't.) Gameness is what sets our breed apart. However ... we have to move FORWARD, not back. The past is just that - the past. If you want to remain in the past & keep your dogs closed away as good for nothing fighters to keep the flame alive, that's fine. I see nothing wrong w/ that.

But ... we still need SOME folks to move their dogs forward into new avenues where pit bulls can be seen as "useful" in the eyes of JQP. If someone doesn't go out there & promote these dogs as MORE than fighters, our breed's fate will be sealed.

If someone can't promote this breed for what is is - an awesome multi purpose dog - no matter how game your dogs are, they will be taken away & killed along w/ everyone else's "pit bulls." And you can take that to the bank.

So don't be too quick to bash those who want to promote the APBT as a something more than a fighter. Those same ppl just *might* be the ones who save your game dogs for you!

OK, I'm going to go back to being an evil, wicked GD.com women ... I'm going off to conspire w/ Baha now, lol ... ;)

Guys and Gals I do see both sides here. What ABK said is very true and very respectful to the breed. The ones that are showing the breed is multi functional dog other than fighting, those are the ones that are keeping the fight alive to keep our dogs. Don't get mad, I am not saying that everyone is doing nothing, but we have got to do more than jus saying we have some badass game dogs and do more with them. It is a personal prefrence when it comes to these dogs. I happen tolike the Lar-San line. There are some gamey dogs in that line too.... not as gamey dogs as many of us know about but they are there. Look as long as we have people that love and truely repect bothsides of the lines, the showing, working and the game style the breed will be here for along time if we fight the fight together. We do not need to fight one another because we will be the destruction of our own.
