My opinion (& fact - do some research)

    • Too much exercise at too young of an age can hinder proper growth development. Growth plates generate new bone growth and are located near the joints. These can become injured through excessive exercise and may prevent a puppy from developing properly.

    • Different breeds mature at different rates. Smaller breeds develop more quickly then larger breeds. A rough rule to follow is that smaller breeds (25 pounds full grown) can exercise full out at about 8 months. Breeds that reach about 45 to 90 pounds when full grown can exercise full out around 12 months old. Larger breeds should be held back until 18 months old.

Another possibility besides hindering your dogs proper growth and development is working them this much this young could turn them cold to work as they get older (I have seen this before).

I know you are doing what you think is good for the pups, but its way too much too young.

Actually, no they dont. I dont know if its the same for dogs, but Ive always heard that cats bring sh!t to the porch for their owners...like a gift. Maybe your dogs are doing the same thing. LOL

So, basically, from 8-6 is play time. What does this entail? It looks like the only structured exercise you have with them is the one mile run. Also, that is the entire day, not one hour empty. Do you stay at home all day? lol

JMO, I think you should just take them on a few mile walks instead of a one mile run each day. For example, 7:00, feed them, follow it up with the crate time, and then take them out for a mile walk before it's bed time.

The play time can have a lot involved, and you may just want to make that time more effective at burning off their energy. Include new things to socialize them to a lot of new experiences.

As far as killing pests, nothing you can do there. Prey drive is a good thing, you shouldn't worry about that. Just get a bb gun and beat them to it.

I wouldnt be giving them that much exersise at that age, but its entirely up to you what you do with them.....the problem with bulldogs is, they never know when to stop, so whilst their pup`s,its up to you to supervise the best you can.

Yea I kinda am home all day... during play time I throw ball, dig timr(hide stuff in dirt have em dig it out, occasionally friends bring their dogs, some tugging, training ( sit, stay, heel, bark, etc.) If the dogs r clean they come n sleep inside.

1 mile a day = 4 laps around a track = 6 miles a week = not on concrete. I think some on here think the original poster is saying that he runs the 8 month old pup 6 miles in one sitting which would be way too much.

I think it's crazy to think that a pup at 8 months shouldn't be able to run a mile day. That's like saying you won't let your baby try to walk... Good lawd, 1 mile a day? I don't even think that is considered excercise to these dogs and wouldn't even call it working them out.

Okay let me clarify this... 6 times a week I run them One mile each(2 miles for me) depending on the weather and 1 time a week I would run them 6-7 miles which even after this run they are a ball of energy wanting more

DO NOT FEED THE DOGS BEFORE WORKING. This is horrible advice. Also do not feed after a hard workout for several hours. Water after the dogs panting slows and the dog has cooled down quite a bit....then feed.

that's fine w/ me I will make sure I do what u said, but can i ask why?

Feeding before will make the dog puke it up when there exercising and getting hot and the motion etc....also after eating a lot of blood is diverted from the body to the stomach to aid in absorbsion and digestion which leaves less blood to work absorbing oxygen and the body is doing double the work to digest and work out at the same time and the dog will puke....natural reaction because the body realizes it aint right and thats why they puke...also like a runner after a race you dont just stop and or lay down to rest and drink water...you keep moving and walking to prevent heat stroke and aid in air circulation and oxygen intake...it actually cools you down faster ...and when panting hard and breathing hard water can choke the dog and when so hot drinking right away can cool them down too fast and in extreme cases cause shock...
