Hey everyone.. I just got a new pup, a Bull Terrier x Pit Bull mix.. Father was a champion NKC Bull Terrier, and the mother was a non-registered Blue nose, but looked pretty lean and fit, in the 30 - 40 lb. category..

I'll try to post some pictures of the father and mother when I get a chance, and I'll get some pictures of Thompson shortly, and upload them..

What's everyone think of this mix? He looks like he'll have a decent build with a slightly longer than pit bull muzzle.. haha.. might look funny, but I hope he turns out more like a bull terrier..

Okay, here's a picture of Thompson, but I'm still waiting on pictures of the parents from the breeder.. tell me what you guys think.. and do you think this is a good "mutt" mix? Regardless, I'll love him just as much as my other boys..

  3. I am not quite sure if I follow this correctly, but are you saying that you purchased a dog from someone who knowingly crossed a "champion" bull terrier into an unreg'd "pitbull"? If so, that is not a breeder, but what is known as a "backyard breeder"! What was the purpose of this cross? Secondly, if you wanted him to turn out more like a bull terrier...you should have gotten a bull terrier from a reputable breeder.

Finally, love the puppy, get him or her fixed, and if that guy made that breeding just to sell "blue nosed pups" dissassociate yourself with him.

Yeah, I know it was a backyard breeding, but I don't know if he knowingly bred them.. it may have been accidental.. but I do plan to get him fixed.. and I was curious to see how this cross would come out..

He's a cute pup. And good for you for getting him neutered! We don't need to purposely create more mutts in the world.

I for one love mutts. It's fun to watch them grow up and change especially when you're not sure what mix of breeds they are. And mutts do make great pets. However, the truth is that it's just a 50/50 crap shoot. Sure you've got a 50% chance of getting a great dog physically & temperamentally but you've got the same 50% chance of getting a dog that is structurally and temperamentally unsound. And I've dealt with the latter personally and it sucks. Sadly, when you mix breeds you cannot just convince the pups to take all the good genes from each parent......some may get all the bad ones.

OK, OK. Let me get this straight. Didn't BTs come from the same breeds as APBTs? If this is true, (I'm not 100% positive) wouldn't this be similar to when people cross Amstaffs or SBTs with APBTs? Also, the same would probably be true for Boston Terriers. Any of these crosses would produce mutts, but aren't they all a part of the same lineage? Just wondering...

Either way, I wouldn't have paid cash for a mixed breed. Cute pup though, good luck.:)

Yeah, if it weren't for my curiousity of this mix, I would never pay for a mixed pup/dog. But thanks everyone for all the comments.

So what if its a mix? Doesnt mean that it wont suit the owners needs. doesnt mean it cant be a great dog.

THe worth of the dog isnt really in dispute. A good dog is a good dog, if you know what u are looking for.

What was he looking for? To produce a one of a kind animal? Neither the sire or dam are working dogs, as far as it seems, so what was the point. If an accidental breeding occurs, you deal with it. Placing ads for it?

I once owned a ridgeback/pit mix, and he was crazy as hell, but a very unique "looking dog". Imagine an all black pit with a ridge. Interesting, but he was an accident, and I got one of the pups. He was a great dog, really energetic, but he also wasnt a dog that was any more "special" than a lot of dogs I have known.

I see nothing but more problems for the APBT by breedings such as this one we are discussing. Not a knock on you, but it is what it is.

You have zero idea of the temperament of the parents. If that animal gets to a year or so, and shows HA, and someone gets hurt, do you think the media will care that the pup was half blue garbage/half bull terrier?

No sir, it would be a "pit bull".
