I think Happy Holidays is just fine. When someone says Happy Holidays to me I just think they're wishing me a Merry Christmas & happy New Year.

I understand the site saying "Happy Holidays" because there might be some Jewish people, so they also have a holiday going on, but I'd suggest adding a Jewish symbol as well, because going by the picture it looks just Christmas to me. lol.

So just because some Jews or Muslims or whatever may see it but not believe in it then the people who do believe in it and would usually say it should change their ways to make the few others happy?

Or should the people who dont believe in it just accept it and not take offense? Seriously if I hear one more person use the excuse that people change those sayings to prevent offending some other race or religion or atheist then im gonna flip the fug out.....

Maybe some sad day when 85+% of the people here in this country celebrate something else other than Christmas like it is celebrated now then we will all change collectively....but until that sad day comes when those who celebrate it now and say Merry Christmas are the minority then all the religious foreign and secular people can get use to it because it aint nobodies job to change their ways to accomodate some other demographic. Merry Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all! I just got back from my work's yearly Christmas party that they throw for the kids. What a blast, and it was nice to see all of the children running around, opening presents, and so forth. I'm stuffed from all of the pizza, and the kids are all hopped up on Mt. Dew! J/K. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas this year!

You need to chill, man. It was a joke, hence the LOL at the end of it. I am all for saying Merry Christmas, and I get extremely p/o-ed if someone writes Merry X-mas, because I can't stand to see them take Christ out of Christmas, since that is the whole reason for the season. Also, I don't believe anyone said that you aren't allowed to say, "Merry Christmas" in the group, unless that was just added to the rules, then I must have missed it. Marty just decided to put "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." If people want to have a problem with the fact that the group says, "Happy Holidays!" instead of "Merry Christmas", maybe they should also be upset that there is no sign of Jesus anywhere in the picture as well, just Christmas trees and a Santa hat. That's just my take on it, though. I just personally believe that there are bigger fish who are trying to push Christianity out of this country more than Marty (not saying you are doing that). I highly doubt Marty did it to spit in the eye of all the Christians in the group, for all I know Marty is a Christian.

If you want my honest opinion on what Christmas has become or what it is, with all my joking to the side, I can say that I am outraged the out of all the decorations I see, only a very small percentage have anything doing with Jesus, and that to be in the biggest problem. I also am sick of the commericalism of Christmas. I have been trying to get back to the true meaning of Christmas for years, even going to the extent of asking people to please not get me anything, because I am not into the whole gift giving/receiving part of the holiday, because it takes away from the religious importance of the season. The only ones that are in the true spirit of Christmas is Toys for Tots, because people who really need that extra lift get those presents, not some spoiled kids who get something new every single day, and cry because they didn't get the new Wii game.
Now what else drives me mad while we are on the subject? People who aren't even Christian who celebrate Christmas, because they like the gifts. I graduated high school with a girl whose family was hard-core Atheist, and they celebrated Christmas. I don't know about you, but I find a problem with that.

So in conclusion, no I don't agree with Political Correctness, and I feel it's the downfall of America in many ways. However, I do believe in freedom of speech and freedom of Religion. So, if Marty wants to say, "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas" or whatever, then I feel it is his right. If people in this group want to say "Merry Christmas" to each other or even complain about it not saying, "Merry Christmas", then go right ahead, but now you know my honest opinion on the whole affair.

Great post Jean, but I wanted to point out "X" is an abbreviation of the Greek word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ which means Christos, or Christ. So Christ isn't being taken out at all. X-Mas means the exact same thing Christmas & truth be told, X-Mas was likely in use hundreds (if not thousands) of years before our word Christmas was. So don't get upset when you see X-Mas on anything. X-mas was the first way to say Christmas & both X-Mas & Christmas are the exact same word, just using different spelling! ;)

If you want to read more about it, here is a link to check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xmas

Interesting. I never knew that. Thanks for sharing it with me. My Mom used to always tell me it was people way of putting Christ out of the season. I'll have to tell her about that as well. :)

That's what I thought/think as well. Saves time on chagning the message so much.

And for the record, the vast majority of Christians protested "Christmas" as well until the late 1800's. Why? Because there is no Biblical reference or proof that December is even the birth month of Jesus much less that actual date. In fact, by reading the Bible one would actually come up with a totally different month....such as a summer month. And many Christians still today consider "Christmas" a pagan and commercialized holiday. ;)

    With that said.............MERRY CHRISTMAS!

No problem. That's a modern day myth that many ppl believe. I always have to chuckle to myself when I hear folks ranting about how the use of X-Mas takes Christ out of Christmas when X is a abbreviation for Christ!

So with a guilt free conscience, I wish you & your family a MERRY X-MAS & a HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)

Good quote. Say what your culture says but dont make anyone else feel bad for saying or expressing their cultures views. At work I cannot say Merry Christmas on the phone, its a client guideline, even if someone who needs tax help says Merry Christmas to me first I cannot say it back. This is an attempt to not offend the people who it dont apply to but in the long run they dont care about who cutting out simple things like that offends. Its like saying its ok to offend a group who says it by cutting it out as long as the other offended group is happy that nobody says it anymore. Its like saying a certain part of the population deserves more than another and changing the landscape and system is all good and ok as long as these few chosen ones are content....then screw the rest.

I find a big problem with that, for sure. I think it is wrong, when companies make it "against the rules" to say Merry Christmas. I was talking to the Cashier at the Dollar Tree, and she said that they were allowed to say "Merry Christmas", which I was happy to hear, but at a store her friend worked at if you said "Merry Christmas", then you'd get fired, which to me, seems like that would be against the law, because I'd call that discrimination against one's religion, but the way the Govt. has been making the Constitution useless for years now, maybe even decades. That makes me sick. I wish there was a way I could complain to your company without getting you in trouble.

I am not offended, nor do I care what I am wished, I celebrate Christmas, but if someone wished me a Happy Hannakah or Happy Kwanzaa, or Merry Festivus, or Happy Holidays, then I am just Happy that they thought of me...so with that being said..

    Look out for the wall!!

By the way this thread is actually very educational and informative...I really enjoyed reading the previous posts..:)

Yeah youd figure by suppressing anyones words or religious beliefs especially at work...that your preventing them from being free and supressing their civil rights. I am so the type to fight it too.... and say something, thats why I always bitch about it at work ..... but I could bet you a million dollars if it ever went to court as a unconstitutional or religious case... the lawyers would fight it out and both argue the opposite things, one would argue my point saying its my freedom of expression and religion and speech and the other would bring up all the things mentioned in this thread already about the history of christmas or the things about santa or jesus etc and try to say it has nothing to do with religion or the constitution. But it would be fun to see how it came out though because I do believe it is wrong and one shlouldnt have to supress their own beliefs or words in a country like this to make some fringe minority population happy. I also dont believe your employer has any right to say this to an employee and expect them to accept it because now its infiltrated no just our homes but our jobs and daily lives also to a point where it affects our whole life. I wonder what a jury of 12 good old average americans would think?
