My stepfather brought home what was probably some kind of APBT mix when I was 8 years old. Our family owned a few different breeds before and after that. I personally studied and stayed "into" the dogs that whole time, and started getting to finally do my own thing at the age of 23, when I bought Loki. So I say I've been "around" these dogs for 19 years, but have only recently been able to pursue my own path in the breed.

I bought my first dog, Rodeo when i was 15. And every since then i have been hooked. So all together i have been involved for 10 years. And looking back it was one of the best decisions i ever made, buying that long legged, big eared pup. He turned out to be the standard to which i hold all my dogs to now.

Thirteen years. Before I had owned Dobie's for over twenty years but once you own your first APBT, at least for me, you never want any other breed. I actually find other breeds ugly now. APBT is like a Throughbred off the racetrack compared to a plow horse. Absolute beauty in motion. They take my breath away.

8 years old, 2nd grade, Miss Edwards class. 1984. We had just gotten our "Weekly Reader" on the cover it said "PIT BULLS Good family dogs, or dogs with a killer instinct" I crossed out the K.I. part because friends of mine owned a dog their uncle said was from Jeep. I thought, "how do you get a dog from a Jeep?" =) Laughed my butt off when I found out who Jeep was!! His line is still popular with the right folks up here

I was graced with my first bulldog at 15 years of age. So about five years I've been heavily involved with them. Not a long time in the scheme of things, but I have no plans to stop.

I haven't owned a gamebred APBT yet, but I have owned an APBT for two years now. When I first came to visit my boyfriend, I got to meet his Amstaff Notch, which I instantly feel in love with, and then I met my boyfriend's friend's APBTs, Wide Body (Tess' Dam) and Tiger (Tess' Sire). I feel in love with them as well, and was happy to get a pup from them (Tess)...This lead me to want to learn more about the breed, because I had always been into dogs and researched them. So, hence started my quest for knowledge, which first started on myspace, but then learned about this forum from Carolinaboy, and I have learned a bunch here...Once my oldest dog (Cuddles, lab/husky mix, 14 years old) passed away, then I will look into getting myself a gamebred dog...

A little over 15 years ago I was roomates with my buddy and his brother. My buddy bred APBTs and had a pregnant female. When she gave birth to the pups I was the only one home so I called my friend at work and told him the bitch was having her pups. He told me just keep a eye on her because she had had litters before and was a real good mother. Well I watched her have all 14 pups and by the time she was at the 13th pup she was exhausted. She was having trouble delivering the little black and white pup so I started to massage her belly, hips and hindquater(SP). And helped her deliver the pup by pulling very gently on the pup to help him into the world and removed him from the sack for momma dog. And she had the 14th pup on her own.

Well needless to say I grew kinda attached to that little black and white pup I helped bring into this world and my friend ended up giving me that little black and white pup I named Buddy. And the rest is history and I have been hooked since.

As of now, 37 years almost 38 years. Was born into them, we had several APBT's growing up. Can't ever recall a day without ever owning one. My unlce bred them so we always had them. My parents let me get my own when I was old enough to take care of him and that was 24 years ago.

I've had dogs ever since I was a child. They were beloved pets, but they also all served as guard dogs for our premises while growing up in the South Bronx. I continued to have these "rescued mixed breeds" (mostly shepherd or dobie mixes) all the way to my 30's. I have since relocated and I don't need a guard dog now (as much ;) ), so I rescued my first APBT. My screen name does not mean I'm a dogman in the game-breeding sense, but it means that I love dogs "to the bone".
Now, I am hooked on this geat breed and I've made many friends who own pitbulls. I now hope to always have a pitbull by my side.
