  1. that's bullshit! somebody should report that shit to the ADBA! i know plenty of judges who show their dogs and NEVER enter their own dogs on that day. even if their spouse or somebody could show them. i know the ADBA would frown on that shit!

The "Canadian " lady judge did bring at least 6 dogs to show. She, her hubby & friends showed them in the other 3 shows, not the one she was judging. If you want to go & check out the entries & judges books, you will see that they were only entered in 3 shows. It is not uncommon for a judge to bring dogs to enter into a show, after they have judged the first one. I travel a lot & have seen it done all over the country by a lot of different folks. As far as placing, 2 of her dogs each picked up a trophy, one dog was her G/C II Sliver who is the #2 ranked dog in the ADBA so I think that it was not a "given" as he didn't just waltz in & take them all, he competed with the other dogs in the class and one judge deemed him worthy of the placing.
Sounds like someone got inot the sour grapes.

That's foul! I was there Sat, must've happened on Sun. There was a lady that judged on Sat, you can see her in some of the pics wearing a red coat. Not sure if that was the same lady judging on Sun.

"somebody should report that shit to the ADBA!"

I agree w/ Boogie, something should be said about this.

Yes, I do know that as a fact LOL! If you are in doubt, please by all means contact the ADBA, ask if any of her dogs were entered in show #1 and if it is common practice for a judge that is judging show #1 to be allowed to show in the remaining shows. I see it all the time. Sometimes they place sometimes not. Please let us know what the ADBA has to say about all of this so we can put it to rest :)

you can call and let everyone know, this was word at the show and you are wrong about those that judge have dogs that "sometimes" place, they always place as well as those involved with running the event.

It wouldnt be hard for anyone take a guess as to who's dogs would place in each category they entered, same people and held true as usual this weekend.

Aaaah- so politics at shows transfers into the dogs as well, go figure. It's a damn shame that as a youngster I already knew about politics at horse shows. At the age of 10 I knew that there were certain people and horses that just would not be beat based on how the judge was in bed with their farm. If a judge owed the owner of a certain farm a favor (or money for a horse) then it was a no brainer who's horses would place. If a horse only needed one more championship win (points were posted in magazines and bulletins) to get his CH status then we knew that horse was going to win at the next show, obviously because the horse owner's pockets got pretty deep to insure it. By the following season that horse would usually be retired to stud collecting $20,000 in stud fees. Every once in awhile we'd get an old fashioned judge who was honest...there would always be huge upsets at that show and talk about sour grapes- they always had a snippy comment when we beat them fair and square ;)

Minor Threat, I do believe that as it is yourself that is buying in to untrue rumors & gossip that you should be the one calling to hear from the source that they are unfounded. Boogieman Blood, you also were very quick to jump onto his bandwagon, how about you call, as you said "somebody should". Why can't you be that "somebody"? It is unfortunate that this type of rumor springs up at the shows and even worse when they are perpetuated on a message board but the ones speading the tale are unwilling to step up and get a real answer when it is available. It is this type of thing that drives another nail in the coffin of the bulldog fraternity and further separates us all when we should be pulling together. If you are so willing to repeat a rumor on the board , why is it so hard to call & look for the truth and let everyone know? Is it easier to spread a rumor that to put one straight?

  14. listen here i wasn't at the show so i can't say what happened. what am i to do, call and say i read it on a msg board? if a judge judged her own dogs that is bullshit! if it didn't happen, well then so be it. i didn't jump on any bandwagon. i just stated it should not be happening and if it was they would not approve. simple as that. talk about getting into the sour grapes.

now if the judge judged the show then showed her dogs in the later shows......no problem. that is NOT what was stated was done though. it happens all the time. the judges don't always win either......one of my dogs beat a judges dog in texas under these exact same circumstances on sunday. so before you go looking for anybody else to argue with over it stick to the person or persons who made the claim.

edit: as a matter of fact i even refer to judges showing their dogs on the other day in my first post....(usually only one show in each day)....and you still try to drag me into the shit.

I can also say 100% that the Canadian judge did NOT show her dogs in the show that she judged. She did show them in the following 3 shows and her dogs did decent, taking 2 of the 12 trophies. Her dogs did not place in every show. Only 2 of the 8 dogs she brought placed in all three shows and only some of them were 1st places, and one of those dogs had a two dog class for the Sunday shows, so she had to place. 1 of her dogs didn't place in all 3 shows. Incidentally this is the first sanctioned show she judged.

FYI, 16 total trophies were awarded that weekend:

    4 Champion of Champion
(2 to Canada judge - 1 to her dog that is #2 in the NATION, 2 to out of state exhibitors)

    4 Best of Show
(1 to working club member, 1 to other club member not known to the judges, 2 to out of state exhibitors)

    4 Best of Opposite
(1 to other club member not known to the judges, 1 to local non-club member, 2 to out of state exhibitors)

    4 Best Puppy
(4 to working club member, but there were only 9-11 total puppies shown in 6 classes, in fact 3 went to the same puppy and the 4th to his littermate sister)

When you say the judges who show always place as do the club members who put on the shows, do you ever ask why or do you just think it's "political"? I thought the very same thing when I first started showing 20 years ago, but I started watching each show very carefully and asking the judges and other exhibitors questions. I got the ADBA standard and read it many times. I attended the judging seminars held at the ADBA convention each year. I soon learned what the judges were looking for. Also, why showing a dog to it's maximum potential ("handling") were important. It took me 13 years to have a dog I felt was good enough to compete in the Champion of Champions class, even though we had several dogs who made Champion.

Just a thought, if an ADBA judge isn't the right person to know the best dog(s) to bring to a show, in shape and how to show it, then who is? If the club members who work so hard to put on these shows don't know, then who does? Most of the club members working the shows have been doing it for many years, so they have a lot of experience and knowledge. They have also been to the ADBA judging seminar more than once. Most judges and club members would also be happy to help you. I'm not saying that there is NEVER any political judging, but there is far far less than you think.

  16. i agree with that. when i was new to showing my dogs did very well and nobody knew who i was and i had no "connections" in the show world, ADBA, or judges as friends or such. i just didn't care to be lumped onto "the bandwagon" as all i did was state if it happend it was bullshit and should be reported. of course judges aren't going to bring flawed dogs. they can see if they got a shot or not with what they bring just as we all can if we know/learn the standard.

I find it interesting that one of the persons defending the judges motives is from the same country and the other is a new member who just joined yesturday and made her first post on this topic. I am not implying anything, but i do find it quite facinating.
