The verdict is in!

Very true...If a cent isn't seen, it sucks for Mia, but this guy still have community service to do, and can't own a dog for 5 years, which is good for the whole community...And finally the people didn't say, "well, she owns a 'pit bull' and 'pit bulls' are evil, so we side with the other guy." This time it was, "yes, this was a 'pit bull' but this man did wrong." It sets a great presedance *sp*.

 

Let me clarify that the money inovlved in yesterday's case does not go to me (although it would be nice). It is all the fines he must pay out. He was also ordered to pay all court costs and attorney fees, including mine, so that was a nice bonus. How the city/parish/state gets their money from perps is beyond me, but I'm sure they will.

As for my civil suit, it's not for much as of course dogs are property and you cannot sue for emotional damages over property, however I did claim her worth as $1,000 (the most we could justify). However, my dog bite will be the kicker as I can so for emotional damages and pain & suffering along with medical expenses......and we will. I'm sure that all this will take a while, but I'm amazed at the speediness of the first trial so I cannot argue or be too upset. None of this is about the money for me.

 

When the money is awarded by court order, I am pretty certain they can levy the person's paycheck.

It's too bad they couldn't have added any additional, public endangerment or discharging a firearm in public, charges.

Congratulations on your verdict thus far. Hopefully, the jury will decide to make an example of this guy in your civil case.

in todays society ABK this is what will most likely happen,,, alot of ppl live paycheck to paycheck and have no means to pay such a large settlement,,, i'm sorry but i've seen this happen a few times,,,not to me but a few ppl i know of,,,if he files backrupcy the civil suit will fall in with it also,,and i'll bet you A donut he will eventually

 

MIA you should suggest community service working in shelters for the civil ,,, he wouldn't be able to weasel out of that ,,,give him a additional 300 hours

This is true. Odds are Mia will see little to no money out of the guy. I mean look at the OJ thing. He was a mulit-millionaire & the Goldmans are STILL having to hound him like a pack of wolves for the money he owes them. What makes you think some Joe Schmoe on the street who probably works at the local boot factory for $7 p/h is going to have boo-coo bucks to pay on a civil suit? Answer - he won't. He will just declare bankrupcy & Mia won't get a thing.

So I say do as Ghost suggested - in the civil suit hit him HARD w/ jail time &/or community service. He can't get out of that. And I wouldn't let him work at the shelter either. He might actually get pleasure from that (getting to pet & feed the animals, etc.) I'd ask for his azz to be put on a hard sweaty work detail or something really distasteful. No easy shelter work in a nice heated & cooled building. Let him get out on the chain gang in that hot azz Louisiana weather!

 

Boy you don't know how happy i am to hear this,even though it is not what he deserves it is at least some justice.wich is few and far between when it comes to our dogs and their owners.

Hope you get whats needed in the civil lawsuit as well,but no matter what you keep scratching till you can't scratch no more Miakodia.
