"Officials hope that the national publicity about Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick's recent arrest on federal dog-fighting charges will lead people who SUSPECT such activities to report it to Authorities"

Taken from The Wichita Eagle ,August 23.Talk about Witch Hunts,I realize there isnt much point to this thread,Reading that just enraged me.

Stupider shit was erica hill from cnn saying today " We should have mandatory sterilizations of all these dogs. SOMETHING must be done to stop them, when will it ever end?!" She was very passionate about it too, in a news media kind of way, of course. What a dumb little shit

It's already begun. I was reported to AC back in the days when I lived in Hammond, LA for having a springpole. Too bad I was the euthanasia tech at AC and was there the day the call came in. We laughed about it then, but I'm not laughing today. It's sad and it makes me very angry as well.

However, this is why we MUST educate the public not only about these dogs, but also about how springpoles, flirtpoles, treadmills, etc. are nothing more than ways to provide exercise and fun time for your dog. If we don't educate the public, then who will? And why are we so damn willing to let the uneducated, the ignorant, and the downright stupid be the only ones to talk to the media? We have got to intervene!

  4. what they need to do is stop stero typing these dogs..all pitbull are not bad and everybody dont fight dogs...This shit is starting to get blown out of perporsion and its starting to tick me off

Last year at Christmas on either The Early Show or Good Morning America (can't remember which one) they had this overpriced little treadmill with a small dog running on it- they were pushing it as a "great Christmas gift for your dog-it's fun and provides great exercise!"
I don't understand how it's cute when a dachshund is running on a treadmill in front of a Christmas tree but the minute you put an APBT on one it's considered "evidence"

My local radio station had a bit on it today. Idiot after idiot calling in, passing off the same "stealing pets for bait" "beat and neglect them to make them better fighters" "fight to the death and throw the winner to young dogs for bait". Bullshit like that. One after another. Unfortunately, I was at work, and my boss wouldn't of appreciated the earfull I would of given them with the facts. So, waited until I got off, and am sending an email. Anyways, one part of the story the host said, after discussing training regimines and treadmills "If these people didn't fight dogs, they would be fantastic dog owners, how much time they spend bonding and excersising with these dogs, it's just too bad what the ultimate goal is". I wonder if agility, racing, and hunting owners are also bad people because the ultimate goal infers risk of injury and poor production. I've seen more permanently crippled racing and hunting dogs, than fighting dogs. The truth, is such a far cry from the media stories, it's unreal.

Speaking of stupid stories. I read this article today in what looks like pure bull shit. Is it common to cut the tails off dogs in the US now?

Well I hear that, and I do try to intervene. Trouble is the idiots have the numbers and the media on their side to enforce whatever bull shit they already believe. Even though this is something that has to be done, getting them to change their opinions is difficult! No matter where you are the media is only going to have a very small space for positive and factual information on the breed, and a very large space for the bull shit. Two weeks ago where I am, this girl was attacked by a possibly American Staffordshire cross and was hospitalized. So over the last week I've read letters in the newspaper to "Ban Staffordshire Bull Terriers, they're dangerous" "Import or make 500.000 muzzles for all the country's dogs" and of course "Destroy all dangerous breeds", it's hard to make that impact when the idiots are so vocal and irrational!

The sad truth about all this is that its the owners of these dogs that keep putting the APBT on center stage. If we had more responcible owners this shit would stop happening. The problem with that is how do you keep these dogs out of those owners hands without giving up our rights ?

If we close the circle that would help but unfortunately that circle has a huge hole in it and these dogs keep getting out and now they are gorssly over bred by idiots that only see the dollar signs. I am not gonna put all the blame on bad breeding but rather put it on the poor ownership of these dogs. The poor dogs are the one who suffer.

Just now I saw on the news that a little 5 y/o girl was bitten in the face by a visious pitbull, then as the story goes it was a 7-9 m/o puppy. It always gets blown out of place and the media never gets it right. Now if the owner of this puppy didn't allow the puppy to be approached by the little girl this shit would not be on the news right now.

We need a solution as to keep these dogs out of irisponcible owners hands and stop them from tainting this breed more than it alrready has. Without giving up to much I honestly do not see a good solution, we all would have to give up some form of rights in order to keep our breed before they put a country wide ban on our beloved dogs. There has to be a happy medium here that we can all compromise on, it really is the only way I see us being able to keep our dogs.

    What do you think?

You are so very right. The truth is that we, "pit bull" owners, are our own worst enemies. It's the irresponsible "pit bull" owners that have started this craze and I'm all about speaking out against them. I know this train of thought has created a lot of controversy in the past, but if I have to sacrfice your* dogs in order to save mine, you better believe I will.

*When I say "your", it's a general you that applies to all "pit bull" owners that are irreponsible with their dogs whether it be allowing a dog off leash in public, taking the dog to dog parks, allowing it to roam free and not properly containing the dog, refusing to educate onesself, streetthugs, and the list goes on & on.
