Hello from me and Shadow

Discussion in 'Introductions' started by Shadow ofa Giant, Jul 12, 2007.

  1. My friends call me JR and my girls name is Shadow ( hence the name Shadow of a Giant), she isnt my first APBT but she is the first one that was worth what i paid for her. I have huge plans for Shadow but i dont know enough knowledge on APBT to know where to start. She is 6 months old 100% blue, 100% Razor's Edge. I dont know very much about the bloodline except that people have mixed opinions on it.

If this isnt the right spot to post this next part then i apologize in advance, but i want to know what my dog is capable of, her gameness, if shes capable of being a guardian so forth. i have no intentions to fight her but i would like to know what im working with. is there a way to find this out without putting her down with another dog?

Thank you in advance and i look forward to any responses.

Oh she does have GCH in her bloodline but i dont know for what.

    1. your dog is not an apbt, she is a bully.
2.what are your plans with her and why do you say she was worth the money you spend on her.
3.i don't think you can talk about gameness.
4.what gch is in her ped (this one sure crancked me up :))

now this one takes home the prize :))

Welcome to the forum! Stick around--there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here and great info.

BTW, as stated above, your dog is an American Bully. Not an APBT :)

  5. no offense taken even tho the first dude was a little to cocky for my blood. as i stated i dont have the knowledge on her thats why im here, bully, APBT whatever shes a pitt bull to me and my baby so ill leave it there, but to answer your questions when i say shes the first one that was worth tha cost, is cause she's the first pup that ive had to actually form out right, also cause her price came with papers.

and im not asking for a discussion on gameness i was looking for a more hands on acivity that doesnt involve her fighting another dog, if thats the only way then kewl so be it.

And i dont know who was a gch in her ped, would that be with her papers or is it just a question to ask the kennel that owns her mother and father?

and the plans i have intel weight pulling among other, but i guess back to the first post i want to see if she is capable of being a guardian.

well ok , sorry for my 1st post, probably i was to "agressive". this is a good site and you can lear alot hear. wellcome !

you could teach her to pull and compete in this shows, and you can learn her schudtshund , i don;t know how to spell it :"> . for the guardian part, i don't know what to say , if sch. go ok you could get yourself a guardian , but be carefull with it , if you don't know her temperament, and she could hurt someone by mistake and that will bring again bad publicity for the breed, because bullys are often confused with apbt's. sorry again and enjoy your stay.

hey welcome to the board :) theres lots of good info here. as others said Razor's Edge isn't a purebred APBT bloodline as the creator admitting to mixing in different breeds to create the distinct look. but anyway i would suggest getting into weightpull ! if shes got good wind and some drive try it.

It all depends on the breeder you are dealing with. Some folks are just dishonest. So, I would suggest looking at the dogs on her papers and researching them on the internet if possible. This will give you a better idea of what dogs your dog came from.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy it. :)

Guarding isn't really natural for a Pit Bull, at least not guarding against people. Though in fairness, some people have been working to bring out the protective instincts and capitalizing on that. So I guess the fair answer would be, she may protect, she may not. I wouldn't encourage her in that direction if you aren't completely familiar with the process, because its not the kind of training you want to just "dabble" in. Right now the most important thing is socializing her around all kinds of people and situations, to acclimate her to the kinds of things she may encounter later in life.

As far as what else you can do with her: weight pull, obedience, conformation, agility, dock diving, frisbee, drafting, backpacking, therapy, whatever! Certain temperamental and physical traits will make it harder or easier for her to compete in some things over others, but you can learn that as you go along. Just follow your interests. When I got my dog, I knew that I wanted to do weight pull, and wasn't interested in anything else. Fast forward 3 years, we do weight pull, agility, obedience, and are always looking for something new to try.

Hi Shadow! Good to have to here. I will try to answer your questions as best I can.

1: Your pup is not a pit bull. Dave Wilson, the creator of Razor's Eddge (RE) has already admitted he mixed in other breeds WITH pit bull to get the signature modern RE look. Your dog is actually a breed of dog called the American Bully & they have their own kennel club, the American Bully Kennel Club. If I recall correctly, Dave Wilson created the club specficially for his dogs b/c there is currently a movement to have his dogs booted out of the UKC & the ADBA.

2: Just b/c you think it is, doesn't make it so. I can think my 4x4 Dakota is a Bentley all I want to, but it is still a Dakota. So you can think your pup is a pit bull all you want to, but I assure you, she is not. She is an American Bully, which as I mentioned earlier, is a mix breed. Dave used American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire Terrier (AST) & in some cases English Bulldog (EB). You were probably told she was a pit bull by an unscrupulous breeder, but she is no more pit bull then any other pit mix out there.

3: Guardian. Probably not. Most RE dogs do not have the physique to be a good guard dog. Plus, they are so in demand right now, a dog like yours will undoubtedly DRAW more riffraff to you than deter it. Having an American Bully as a guard dog is as silly as covering yourself in honey to deter a bear.

3: Gameness. You will not be able to tell right now as she is WAY too young. American Bullies do go back to game dogs via their APBT & AST ancestry, but it is so far back I don't think it would account for anything. And even if a American Bully is game the dog is unlikely to have a physique that would allow it to perform well.

4: GR.CH. bloodlines. American Bullies go back to UKC & AKC show dogs. Those are the GR.CH.s in your dog's peds. They are not game dogs.

5: Pitt. Friend, PITT is an actor noted for his many good films & girl friend Anglina Jolie. A PIT bull meanwhile is a type of dog.

I hope this has been of some help to you. Stick around this site as there is much information here. If you wish to learn about the real pit bull this is the place to be.

    Welcome & good luck! :)

  14. ok now that last post raises a very good question for me, i just recently got her temporary registration form from the kennel i bought her from not only is it a UKC registration but they also have her as a APBT, is this not correct either, i dont see the UKC making a error like that unless thats the only classification they have for Pit, bully or whatever else they go by. and if what you say is true about the UKC should i have her registered under a different club? Is it ok to have her registered to more than one club or is it just overkill?

And please excuse my typo ABK seeing how you felt as though you needed to point it out, i know the difference between B Pitt and a dog...

  15. ABK

    ABK Rest In Peace

    Hello again Shadow!

No, it is probably not correct. Her papers were probably hung somewhere down the line. Hanging papers is a tool used by disreputable breeders to misrepresent the breeding on a dog.

Here is pretty much what goes down: Breeder X breeds his female pit bull to a male English Bulldog. The resulting pups are mixed breeds who cannot be registered, right? Wrong! Breeder X also happened to have a male pit bull. He fills out a litter application saying the sire was his male pit bull instead of the male English Bulldog & wah-lah! You now have a litter of English Bulldog x pit bull mixes who are now registered through a kennel club as purebred pit bulls!

Paper hanging has been going on as long as registries have been around. Old time dog fighters did it to protect their "secret recipies," a modern weight puller did it to create the optimum weight pull dog who could pull in the ADBA & breeders in the background of your dog did it to create your dog.

As for the typo, I pointed it out only b/c you were using the word "pitt" over & over. Your girl is not a "pitt" or even a pit bull. She is an American Bully. And there is no shame in that. American Bullies are impressive looking dogs & wonderful house pets. But they are not pit bulls.

If you want to have her registered, optimally she should be registered through the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC), b/c as I mentioned before, there is a movement to have the RE dogs (among other American Bully lines) removed from the UKC.

If this passes, your UKC papers on Shadow will be cancelled & will be useful for absolutely nothing. She will be banned from the UKC & you will not be able to either pull her or show her. None of her puppies will be able to be registered UKC & the papers on all her offspring (if any) will be pulled too. Plus, you will be out all your registration fees b/c the UKC sure isn't going to reimburse you.

So not only would it be more accurate for you to register ABKC, it would be safer too.

If you're interested in shows/pulls don't worry. The ABKC is already holding shows & BBQs. One member here at gone to at least one & says they are really fun. Word is they're trying to get set ups for weight pull too. Here is their website link:

    http://www.abkcdogs.com

Hope this helps & good luck! :D

  16. ABK hey i appreciate the help cause as i now see this sh!t gets deep. so there is really no way to find out what her pedigree is becuase of the type of bloodline she has? Also the numbers they have on her registrtaion (beginning with an A) is there a way i can research those online?

Yea, you know the mess can really get sho-nuff deep.

As for research, that's a hard one b/c paper hangers are going to cover their tracks. The only thing I could recommend is Pedigrees Online. Sometimes the papers peds are on there, but sometimes the correct peds are on there too.

Occasionally there are pics too that will give the dog away. For example, here is a paper hung dog who's picture gives him away:

Shadow, just wait till you get your pedigree in and research it. SOME people believe the modern day RE dogs are mixed breeds, which I'm sure there are many money breeders who do that. On the other hand, you have some serious breeders who actually work, show and breed RE dogs with a passion. The original RE dogs(Purple Rose of Cairo, Inna Rage, etc.) were the product of breeding the largest APBTs available to the RE kennel which included American Staffordshire Terriers(which is an APBT, just registered through AKC as an AST and have more been directed toward shows).

Anyway, just check up on the pedigree, check up on the history of your kennel. Your dog is your dog! It could be the greatest dog you'll ever own, you'll never know. As far as guardianship, try schutzhund training. Look for a guy on here named Diesel and check out his Greyline/RE dog. He is an exceptional blue dog.
