I just received a phone call from the editor in chief, Bill Bankston, from The Advocate (www.2theadvocate.com .....that's our newspaper here). Anyways, he was calling to verify that I was the one who wrote the editorial and to ask permission to use it. WOOHOO! Finally they are considering posting the pro-"pit bull" side of the argument!

AND I've got a meeting set up for Friday afternoon @ 2:00 for a news story on our WBRZ Channel 5 (ABC) news station.

I got a phone call from Bill Bankston (the newspaper) today. He told me he hated to bother me again, but asked what "BSL" stood for so I told him. It looks like it might make it!

And this would be the first pro-"pit bull" editorial to hit the newspaper. All the other opinions have been very anti-"pit bull."

Make sure the newspaper gets your comments correct and in context. Newspaper editors have a magnificent way of getting the facts twisted if not completely wrong.

 

I've heard that. But from what I've learned, if you write in an opinion piece, they cannot edit it because once they do then they would have to put their name on it vs. having your name on it. For interviews, they can do whatever the hell they want.

I know today I had to give him the ok to add in "Breed Specific Legislation" instead of just "B.S.L.".

Gotcha. In my haste, for some reason, I thought you were giving an interview that they were writing. Still, newspapers will screw up the alphabet given half a chance...double check it anyway.

People have been misinformed for so long, when somebody who actually knows something factual speaks (like yourself), they won't believe it. This is the case even though they got their previous information from someone just as ignorant as they are.

Given any subject or topic, the general public will believe anything they are told over and over, even it they have no personal knowledge of the subject themselves and even if the information is completely wrong. Nobody wants to think they are impressionable or easily influenced, but they are.

But there may be two or three people with open minds who will read your piece and possibly be positively influenced by it and change their way of thinking concerning bulldogs. That's all we can hope for--a little at a time.
