  1. Okay, so we have moved into a house with my bestfriend. They have a cat and I have my almost 2 year old Apbt... Since we have been here she has began to scratch.. I noticed that she has been scratching so hard that she almost bleeds, it looks like a hot spot... I do not know if she is allergic to the cat and his fur or to the carpet, we have always had hardwood flooring.... Should I take her to the vet?
Can I put anything on it? I put bacitracine...
    Please help....

It could be anything from fleas (which contrary to popular belief aren't always visible to the naked eye) to allergies to a bacterial skin infection to a fungal infection(i.e. yeast infection or ringworm)............& the list goes on.

LOL I was thinking the same thing like where do we start.

I agree give some benedryl till you can take the dog to the Vet. Is the dog on a flea preventative?

  7. I read in a Stratton book a Story about a good Pitdog who allowed cats to sleep in his hut (especially in cold winter nights). This dog got a bad skin allergy and a guilt were special cat's lice . Your Story has remind me on that.....:)

  8. Well thank you for the replies. She has an appointment tomorrow morning.

And yes she is on Flea protection, Advantix, and the cat is on Advantage....

  9. So here is an update on my dog.... I took her to the vet this morning. They had to knock her out because she was being to difficult to work with, then they did a skin scrape, found nothing... He said as I suspected that it is an allergic reaction to something. He gave her an anehisamy shot.... Perscribed a steriod for the pain and inflamation and then antibodics, also a spray... She has been drowsy all day and is still itching.... I just hope that this helps I have pics of the wounds and rash with post later in the day.....

any way you can isolate the dog and cat=dander reasons and see if that helps?
thoroughly clean a room seperate from the cat, keep your dog in it for a few days and see if the itching ceases. if so, you've got your answer. if not, then you have one really clean, dander-free room!;)
    ...can't hurt...
