Ok this has started a few days ago.. my knucklehead Folsom has started this habit of standing at the end of his chain and literally screaming..(just when he sees something.. a cat, a strange dog, critter, whatever.) he sounds like a woman getting beat out there.. its so bad that I had a couple who were walking their dog (which triggered said screaming) the guy came to my door and says "Man I think your dog is hurt or something." But no.. he's fine he's just screaming.. wtf is up with that? None of my other ones do it.. they just bark or whine. Is this a common thing?

Here's a picture of the knucklehead in action

  2. If it has experienced once with my dog Jimbo. At night he has fought with a big badger and I have separated the both . I put Jimbo on leash and he startet screaming like an Monkey . LOL. And I thougt well he will stop it soon...but he did it for about 5 min and believe me thats a long time...my ears were hurt badly. I think this scream thing you find often and mostly with Bulldogs. Its a sign for wanting something really....I mean R E A L L Y!!

Bentley does it to. Horrid sound. He'll chase squirrels up a tree then stand at the bottom and scream at them. Then when my neighbor comes out he screams at her, she gives them all scooby snacks.

  5. Rage will do it, if she sees another dog she cant get to or when its feeding time and iam not fast enough to bring her dish

Totally and completely normal. Whitey does it when he gets frustrated with his spring pole. When he gives it his all and it doesn't come out of the tree he starts screaming. Thats when its time to stop-before the police get called:D .

Duds does the same thing, at the vet's if another dog is in the waiting room. Anywhere there is a large male dog. He just wants so bad to get at it.
Duds is a real laid back dog. You have to wake him up to go to bed but when it comes to any adult large male dogs he goes totally nuts. He started this behavior when he was about 6 months old. We were at Petsmart when a large GSD there for an adoption clinic came at him growling. He flipped out. Needless to say he doesn't go to Petsmart anymore.

  9. I have a neighbor with a 2 year old APBT two houses down that screams like others have described...my puppy Achilles would always have a high pitched whine if, for example, he was on a leash and restrained from chasing birds, rabbits etc. As Achilles is getting older he's starting to use that scream...I don't know if its the influence of that bigger dog, or deep play/prey drives, but that scream can be quite embarassing.

We've had/still have quite a few who are more than half-coyote all day and night. They'll hit the dog box 1000 mph the second they see you coming when they are acting up, knowing they will be scolded. The second you turn your back, they rocket back out and start howling. I have a pack of coyotes that has lived less than 100' from my back door, and I swear, one dog is worse than all the adults and pup coyotes combined!

I'm not talking about prey drive being kicked into high-gear, simply boredom and the love of testing out their "pipes". Unfortunately, it's something the rest of the dogs picked up after a short while. The screamers go way out back, behind the chicken coupe. Doesn't matter. I made one of the worst screamers a temporary housedog for 4-5 weeks, and she did it all day/night inside as well. Let her out to go to the bathroom, she turns around, stretches and looks at you and howls once or twice before going to the bathroom. Wake up in the middle of the night, her on my chest, 5'' from my face just hollerin' "PLAY WITH ME, I CAN'T SLEEP, I'M BORED!"

Chloe does it,mostly when she is somewhere I'm not.She really gets going if she's outside and she sees me .I have to bring her in when she starts because I'm afraid someone will call the police or animal control thinking I'm killing her or something. It really is a horrid noise. My husband say's she saounds like retarded seal.

I had a dog years ago that used to do that. If you had heard her, you would've thought I was strangling her.
