skin problems

I took Beaux back to the vet again and again the did allergy test,they tested for mange and mites and every thing, but he still ithcing like crazy and nawing at his self. He is loosing his hair and scaring himself all up I don't know what else to do. I will try to post some pics soon.

 

did they give/recommend anything to help alleviate the itching?

did they sat what they suspect your dog is allergic too?
what specific test came back positive?

 

Does he have any fleas at all? Could be a flea allergy & just one bite can set it off make a dog pull out it's hair & scratch itself raw. I have one that does. I try to keep her as comfortable as possible when she has an outbreak. I have found that soaking her in Aveeno bath helps to calm her skin. I put her in a tub of warm water & Aveeno & pour it over her for about 10 minutes. I do it a couple of times a week & while it doesn't stop her itching completely it does seem to make her feel better. One flea bite will have her scratching for a couple of days.

 

He is taking Benadryl 2 times a day it seems to help a little. They said that he did not have any allergys. He has been too 2 different vets and they both said the same thing.

you said the vet did an allergy test, your dog needs a skin scrape, this will pin point the problem.

 

the oatmeal one? that should relieve some of the itching....

another thought, inhalents.
have you switched anything lately that may have caused this, even laundry detergents(to wash bedding, etc) can cause this. anything new to this dog, that he may not be used to?
also, since it is "allergy season" it could be seasonal,...
allergies are tricky and tough to pinpoint sometimes

I'm guessing "tested for mange and mites" would mean they did a skin scraping already, but I could be wrong.

I have no advice, but good luck binker. Sorry your boy is having these issues.

 

my boy winston has horrible seasonal allergies and i started him on nettle pills. the stuff is awesome! i had winston on benadryl and it did nothing. stinging nettle is a natural antihistamine and it also seems to do something to prevent secondary infections. when winston does scratch which is about 50-60% less than he did pre-nettle it doesn scab or get raw. it is pretty amazing stuff and full of vitamins too.

i give winston(50 lbs) this one. i give him 2-4 a day depending on how much he is outside. it has helped ALOT!! and it is non-toxic and cheap.

Maybe this can help you out... I've got a few dogs that have hot spots right now and this is what I've always used for them. You can get it at Wal-Mart for $4.00 or you can go to the vet and they'll treat it for a $100.00 - $130.00 . . . I've already checked

Yeah, that is the one. I also use it on Munkee when his seasonal allergies flare up. He needs more baths at that time to wash off the allergens.

I don't recommend steroids to mask the problem. You need to find out what is causing this, and fix it. Putting a steroid band-aid over the problem, doesn't really make it go away.

 

You have to be careful with steriods. You have to taper them off. You can not just stop giving them. Also with skin scraping you may not always get a positive. And if your dog does have mange and you give it a steriod it WILL make it worse.

Have you done a food trial? That usually takes at least 90 days. And you have to feed it something that it has never been introduced to.

Also does your dog have ear infections? Is your dog chewing at it's feet?

well the reason i said steriods was my white dogs flare about once every 6 months or longer and a few days on steriods and it dryes it right up,,, after 400 dollars at the vet to try and fix this issue and to try everything else under the sun,, steriods a few days and its over,, after everything i've spent for skin issues it normally does the trick
