This weekend my dog Sadie passed away. She was 12 almost 13. I felt the urge to talk about her and this is one of the few places I thought it appropriate so thanks and bare with me.

As some of you know, for the past month or so, Sadie had been struggling with pneumonia. Technically it should have killed her a few weeks ago, but she 's a fighter. Eventually her spleen and liver began to swell to the extent that she couldn't eat enough. By the time she passed, she had lost 11 pounds. On a dog her size, that made her essentially bones and fur. Ever the fighter though, she refused to give up. As a matter of fact, the vet said that she was her own worst enemy, because we couldn't make her lay still. She still wanted to play, and heaven forbid she saw another animal. She never realized that she was to weak to go kill something...her prey drive would overwhelm her. In fact, the night she died I took her outside at one in the morning to use the bathroom. She could barely stand, but that didn't stop her from trying to go after the cat that came through our fence. I picked her up and laid her down inside. At 4am, she passed away. It was an honor to have known her.
Sadie was only my dog for about three years. I inherited her from my uncle when he passed. In her youth, she was a gladiator. The product of a breeding program that spanned almost fifty years. I was always proud of that. For her time with me however, she was a clown. The type of dog that would take your blanket off you in the morning if you refused to get up and play. Whatever I did, Sadie did too. If I went for a jog, Sadie wanted to go. If I was watching T.V. Sadie would sit on the couch and pretend to watch it too. She was a good dog. To my niece and nephew, she was a horse to ride around the yard. To my buddies, she was something to wrestle with at a bar-b-que. For me, she was a lot of things, but mostly she was my friend. She will be greatly missed.

    sorry for your loss.

i know it sucks to lose an animal companion of that many yrs. but to look on the brighter side, now you can get another one you know will be loyal for that long ;)

just remember, no matter how shitty your day/week is going, you can always paint a sunny picture on the inside of your eyelids.
