I posted this yesterday in another thread but I just went through this last weekend. I was lucky that Mike is well behaved and under control. But I think some people do not care. Or I should say they do not care until something happens then they want to point the finger at the other person's dog. But it was their dog not on a leash running wild!.

Whats funny is that this weekend I took Mike to Piedmont Park by downtown Atlanta. They have a huge lake and a trail to walk around it. Mike and I both needed the exercise. Well here myself and a co worker of mine were walking minding our own business. Mike is on a leash. And here comes a Boston Terrier full speed to Mike. Well he jumps in Mike's face and tries to attack him. I grab Mike by the collar and hold him up. ( I wanted to kick the shit out of this dog). I scream I got my dog get yours. Well here comes the owner. Then as soon as the owner put the dog down (mind you he still does not put the leash on his dog) the dog comes back at Mike. At this point I wanted to let Mike down and go at him. Mike is looking up at me like damn mom let me down please. But I hold Mike up by the collar again. And Tell this guy to get his effing dog. Because even though my dog did not start this he will finish it and then who would be to blame. And then yell at him why in the hell are you letting your dog off leash in a public park. He said that his dog doesn't bother any dog and stays by him. I tell him that he is lucky that I have control of my dog otherwise this could have been worse.

I think that when you are at a public place KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH. We were at a wide open public park.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

You say you and your dog were in your backyard and this guy opened the door and his dog went towards your dog, is your backyard open, hate to say it, but your at fault aswell, for not containing your dog while at your backyard, dogs dont know the difference if something is private property or not.

i agree but the difference is that my dog wont leave my yard even if theres other dogs cats whatever his dog comes in to my yard all the time ... so yea id take some responsibility but my point is if you cant controll your dog off leash then IMO you should keep it leashed ...and just so were clear i do put clutch on leash if were in public ..

all's it takes is one time for your dog to decide to go after/get on another animal, then it's too late.

safety/proper containment should always be on the top of the list if you have an apbt, not to say that it isn't for you; you seem to have a very obedient dog.

well thank you he is very obedient i worked very hard to get him that way ...
and it is im always carefull our back yard is blocked in on three sides and that guys front door is right there on the unblocked side so chances are real good that im not gunna run in to anyone else but you are right i preach to everyone about being a responsible owner so ill take my own advice and take extra precautions ....

Call me crazy and paranoid but when I take my boy for a walk I have my cellphone, dog spray, breaking stick, walking stick, and my stun gun. There are alot of irresponsible dog owners out there that allow their dogs to run loose. I want to be prepared. My boy is not other dog aggressive and the only time I saw him even pay attention to another dog was when that strange dog was approaching me in a harassing manner. However, I make sure that I am on high alert at ALL times when walking my dog..never know when a dog will come out of nowhere.
