My girls Sadie and Jasmine are both hole diggers lol. I told my fiance that I was going to push Sadie off in the next hole she dug and fill it up lol. She digs them very deep and sleeps in them instead of her house 80% of the time lol. I'll go out in the yard and all you can see is the top of her head poke'n out. The only thing that I can tell you to do about this...is buy a shovel lol. I'm back filling holes constantly but it never ends... Some say it is boredom but it's just something that some of them like to do. Babygirl likes to try and catch bugs that fly by, Boudreaux likes to shread everything in site, Jazzy and Sadie love to dig, Annabelle loves to bark at nothing...they all have their own personalities but it seems that you lucked out and got a yard full of diggers lol.

I have had a few diggers. Some do, and some dont. Dont know why, but havenoticed that once they start digging, it's on like a chicken bone!!LOL

As to the non poisonous method, they make a windmill that when turning it makes a noise in the ground that drives them away.

Dont know if it works, but Ive heard that if u put chewing gum in the moles holes they will eat the gum and die. I dont know what flavor they like but my grandpa used gum and swore it worked.

    First, a couple of questions:

    1. How old are your dogs?
    2. How long are they alone?
    3. How long are they active during the day?

To answer number one, if they are pups, it might just be a phase. You could try to redirect them or you can kennel them when you are gone.

Number 2; If they are alone for a good portion of the day, it could be out of boredom. This also means the digging could be happening while you are away. In this case, you could try to kennel them.

Three; Activity should be a large part of the dogs day. Does he get physical and mental stimulation? If not, you should be working them harder. Are they just running in the yard? Do they have a flirt/spring pole? Dogs need to work, especially APBTs. If they aren't laying on the ground panting and have their eyes closed, they still need some more work;). These dogs can go on and on and on. Exercise could very well be the key. I have my dogs on 20 ft chains on axle set-ups, but they won't exercise themselves, even though they have plenty of room. I have to go and work everydog at least a couple hours a day for them to be satisfied. And I mean WORK, not romps around the yard.

You could also try using mentally stimulating toys. You know the ones that drop out dog food? Try using some of those, or maybe you can fill some kongs with cheese or PB and lay them in different spots in the yard. Switch them up everyday or even use a specific set of toys for a particular day of the week (ie-kongs and PB are only used on Monday and Wednesday). I have heard that a lot of zoos will do that for the animals there. It seems to work.

And last resort, you could always cut of their paws:p

You have some options, like everyones been saying a tired dog is a happy and calm dog , i wouldnt rely on your large backyard for excerise , they can get used to messing up your yard real quick, i would run them , if you cant, walk them for atleast 30min to an hr every other day, they will be happy, last case scenario, since you say you have 10,000 sqf of space, why not make a designated place where they can dig all they want. Good luck.

well on the digging you have to remember these dogs have terrier in them, and terriers dig thats a givin.also they know them vermin is under there and that will make them go all the harder.all you can do with the digging is just learn to live with it.you can tire them out and such but they are still going to want to dig.you can try making a place for them to dig and let em get it out of their system in that area.to me it ain't really a big deal a lot of my dogs have dug their own burrows to go under and rest in,it is just in a dogs nature to dig just like it is to eat and mate and such.now when it comes to vermin there are a lot of ''ideas'' as to how to get rid of them but the 3 things that work pretty fair are bubble gum, gun,or dogs.and of the 3 i would go with the latter 2 either shoot em or let the dogs get a hold of em and bingo end of vermin.

Joe is four years and Izzy is almost a year ,the other two dont do it.I never leave them out when im not home and theyre in their kennels about three hours a day.Its interesting what you said about it being a phase because sometimes they will go for weeks without doing it then its like they suddenly remember that its fun!Im really thinking its just cuz the vermin so hopefully i can get rid of them and it will stop. Also right now we are looking at different ways we could put up a spring pole or flirt pole,we just dont have a single tree to attach it to in the backyard so my husband, brother, and brother-in-law are all argueing about what kind of frame to build!I hope they just build the damn thing soon or im going to need all those holes.....lol

You know my dogs wear clothes so I say a good pair of shoes on them will stop your problem....Just Kidding!;)

We have never had a "hole in the middle of the yard" problem, but we have had our dogs dig by the fence, but we also have a rabbit and I found a good use for her poopy...They don't dig anymore. We still walk the fence line but it hasn't been a problem for a long time.

By the way...I think rabbits poop like 4 times what they eat.

oh yeah they dug up around the fence too,but some concrete and chicken wire took care of that problem.

Well it isn't gophers or moles and they are just digging for the hell of it...you might want to try this. Take a plastic kiddie pool, put dirt in it and some toys under it and let the dogs "find" them. They think it is a game and love it. It worked for a friend of mine that had a digging problem and saved their yard. Good luck!
