That is the first thing that pops into my mind, Coccidia. A few years back I lost a whole litter of pups I was very excited about because of it. Now when I see diaria, I get paranoid. I have this stuff that is for swine and chickens that I put in the drinking water for the pups that is for it. Hope the pup is alright! 5 weeks is awfully early for the pup to leave!

PP, are you talking about sulmet? I use that in the water too. I also keep a bottle of albon handy. I will give it to pups for preventative, and I will also give it to new dogs that come to the yard.

Sounds to me like your pup's "breeders" should have taken better care of their pups. Also, if you have other dogs at home, you may want to get them some albon. Even if they don't show signs of coccidia, they can still be carriers.

5 week is very young and at the very least notify the breeder of what is diagnosed because the rest of the litter may have it as well.

I agree with this. 5 weeks is a bit young....

I will be willing to bet that its coccidia, and possibly a combination of hook worms, and coccidia.

I would strongly advise keeping a big bottle of ALBON on hand and administering to pups from 3-4 weeks on weather they need it or not, because one pint of Albon will treat 10 or more litters and the cost is about a 100th of what it will cost to treat/save one suffering from coccidia.

isnt 5 weeks kinda young to be taken from its mother? i thought it was like 6-8 weeks of age, cause the puppy still needs to feed on mothers milk!
    I could be wrong though!

My pups are completely off by 4 weeks, IMO, it is a phsychological development that takes place between 4-8 weeks. It is amazing the difference how the pups act if left with their littermates till 8 weeks!

True. That is when then do some major learing on how to be a dog. Socially. Kindergarten so to say.

i agree! this is a stage in a puppie's life where social developement is very important. I've read, and think as well, that when/if a pup is taken too soon, they have e tendency to be more difficult to train and socialize, and may exhibit more negative behaviors: tendency to be more fearful, have barking issues, just be more difficult, overall. My feeling is, it's just best to have pups stay with 'mom' and sibblings to obtain optimum social developement so the dogs just ends up being and becoming a more well rounded, more suitable animal.

Thanks for all the advice. My pup died!! It had parvo but internal bleeding is what killed it. I took the day off and took my other dogs to my vet to be safe. They got a shot each. The people I got the pup from was going to take it to the shelter so I brought her home. They said this was an unexpected litter of 3 and two died. I want to thank this Wonderful community of APBT Lovers for your support. I will try to save any animal from a shelter and will never let our breed near a shelter. Thanks MIKA.

so sorry to hear that ,parvo is bitch. It would help if you cleaned everything with bleach, the parvo virus can live in the ground forever so spray the yard down with bleach also.
