Hog Wire Fencing

Does anyone here use hog wire fencing for their stock? I've got some new game line dogs coming here soon in the next few months, and I'm getting the area fixed up for them. I'm considering hog wire fencing off an area in the yard with two sections, one side for one dog and one for the other, but they would still have a proper chain setup within the fenced area. The reason for the fencing to keep my two show dogs seperated from the more DA dogs when they go outside. As the show dogs are mostly indoors and crated.

It looks very secure. I'm glad I found it as I had a totally different idea in mind.

The only flaws are that people can stick their hands through the fecing and a dog's muzzle also fits through it.

 

That is dam nice. I planed on doing something like that myself. But I want mine just a little bit smaller and completely inclosed

 

I don't think it would be a very good idea, as bulldogs fence fight & if 2 got into it through that fence that wire probably:

a: wouldn't hold

or

b: has mesh so large great damage could be inflicted.

Well, the bulldogs will be also have a chain setup inside the fence(axl to chain within the perimeter), but I'm using it to seperate them from my inside dogs when they go outside to do business.

I don't think a fight would break out that strong and quick do you? Just from the inside dogs going outside for a little while. I'm sure they would bark and bicker from both sides of the fence but I don't think Max is going to tear through the fencing to get at the chained dog inside the fence.

edit: As the dog within the fence should be chained to where he should only be like 4-5 ft from the fencing.

 

Think about it Lethal - if hog wire worked, more dog men would be using it b/c it sure as check is cheaper than a kennel. But most of them are NOT using it & they're not using it for a reason.

I can assure you, it only take a look for a fight to break out. And if you know anything about gamebred bulldogs, you'll know they usually don't bark or growl when they've got fighting on their mind.

They'll give each other a hard look then all hell breaks loose. There isn't any barkling or snarling like other breeds & by the time you hear anything your dogs will already be in holds.

But go ahead & do it. You'll find out. My set-up is almost identical to the one you're wanting to do & I still had a dog get ate up.

IMO the best kennels for pit bulls are those brown metal ones you can get a Tractor Supply. The holes are small enouhg that muzzles can't get through or barely get through & the wire is so thick the hardest mouth pit bull can't bend it. Too bad they're so darn high.

 

But were your dogs chained within the fenced perimeter, too? Not just a dog run but a chain/axl setup.

This is the idea: large perimeter enclosed in hogwire. Dog within fence also has a chain/axl setup. Dog's chain should be long, but not long enough to reach the fence.

Whether or not my inside dogs will tear through the fence to get to the chained up dog is another story. If so, then Max is going to end up on a chain, too and then I would've waisted 500 bucks.

So it's not a matter of the gamebred dog getting loose and tearing through the fence to get at Max, it's whether or not Max will want to first tear through the fence, and then attack the dog on the chain.

 

Yes, my dogs were chained inside of a kennel & had a perimeter.

You will be amazed had how adpet these dogs are at getting loose, so a perimeter, while helpful, is NO guarantee that they cannot get to each other. You need study fencing too.

As for Max, you can always put him on a runner or chain to use the bathroom. That is what I have to do w/ my inside dogs b/c my guys WILL run right over the kennels & start a fight.

 

You can get the pannel with 2" x 2" holes I believe that is horse panneling more expensive though but with 2 or 2 1/2 pannels you can do an entire kennel.

 

I've seen bulldogs chew through hog wire if I was buliding a setup like the one pictured I'd use heavy guage chain link it cost more but it's worth it.
