diamond Lamb and Rice

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by sedaliapitbulls, Jan 10, 2007.

  1. Ok I just bought a bag of diamond Lamb and Rice to try out. I have tried some samples but dont know how good of food it is. A big price difference between diamond maintence and diomand origional. If it is worth spending the extra money even though I know alot of people dont like diamond I am fond of it. What do you think of this lamb and rice. Is it worth the extra money

personally i dont like lamb and rice food. Lamb has more calories, than chicken, and every dog i have seen on it usually has loose very odorous stools :S

i switched my dog from the diamond food that was higher in fat to the lamb & rice puppy food

she used to expel like 2 to 3 times inbetween each feeding, being fed 3 times a day on the old food, to going once after each feeding, now only two feedings a day, 6 am & 5 pm

granted, she has a little more gas (nasty, foul gas), but she looks like she's using the food a little better, due to less shits (which are solid & healthy lookin, btw) and i can notice her putting on a little more weight in spots where she was real skinny. if you look at the pics in my gallery, youll see how small she is; she's 16 lbs at 4 mos old right now.

i like it, can't say anything about the adult food, though

I feed Authority (Petsmart brand) Lamb & Rice and its pretty much the same formula and price as Diamond. My dog does great on it ...even though I can't understand why. Personally, I think they are both pretty crappy foods, but its the best you can get at about $25 for a 40lb bag.

Shes fed 1/2 cup twice a day and has nice, firm stools. She only empties after eating ...so twice a day, sometimes only once. Her coat looks and feels great, too. She is a bit gasy but I've noticed that it's usually rawhides causing that and not the food.

  7. ok thanks appriciate it.

I feed Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice Formula. $18.99 for 40# bag. No wheat, corn, or by-products. No complaints here.

  9. I love the Diamond chicken and rice NATURAL. I switched from Canidae to this and will never go back. I currently own 2 Presa Canarios and they love it. There stool is smaller and tighter than the Canidae. Plus I could not get my dogs to hold or gain weight on the Canidae. I got an 9 month old male that is 85 lbs and solid as a rock. That food is the best. It is alot better than all the by product garbage in all the other formulas.

I feed my adult dog diamond premium. I tried switching over to the lamb and rice, but she did not eat that as well as she did the premium, so I ended up switching her back after she finally finished the lamb and rice bag. I also noticed her having bad gas when she was on the lamb and rice. I have been thinking about the naturals. I'm glad you mentioned you are having good results, WWII. I may end up trying a bag of it out and see how it does.

I fed Canidae for awhile, but I seriously haven't seen one ounce of difference between that and Diamond Naturals except $15 a bag. Plus, you get an extra 5 lbs in the Diamond.

i'm feeding diamond as well. my older dog is fine. and the lil ones 4 & 5 month olds like it..but i'm thinkin of switching to canidae until they're grown up. i'm not sure about it though. i just wanna make sure they get ALL the suppliments they need at this time. they're growin like crazy.

anybody think it would benefit to change to canidae until they're grown? i also throw in a lil raw meats occaionnally--heart/kidney--just for the extra protein.

I actually had a lot of people tell me that Canidae was missing nutrients and needed to be supplemented. This happened on more than one occasion.

If you are feeding a dry diet, the top notch feed is Orijen "Regional Red". 38 % Crude Protein. Check it out. Good stuff.
