I just wanted to get some opinions on dog health insurance. How many of you have this. It is going to cost around $300 a year.
It works like this you pay $50 plus 20% of the bill. each time you go to the vet.
The insurance pays for 80% minus the $50.
I have had a lot of dogs in the past and never had this, but my dog was sick for about 4 days and took him to the vet. They wanted to charge me $500 for xrays of his stomach.
I did not pay that I got some medicine for him and now he is doing great.
What do you guys thinK? Do you have Insurance

No doggy insurance here. I have never heard of it till now. It seems very unreasonable. Here, most vet visits are about 40 bucks, so the insurance would not help, unless a catastrophe occured. I'd put the cash in the bank, let it gain interest rather than pay insurance!!IMO

Having been in the Veterinary field for over 14yrs I have to say that insurance is a scam. When you have a young healthy pet everything is fine. As soon as your pet gets older and starts getting sick they drop you. You are better off putting that money aside in an account or get a credit card just to use for the vets.
The place I work at a check up and 2 vaccines is $50 dollars and that is for a 30min office call. For puppy and kitten vaccines it is a bit cheaper.

I put my aside for my dogs and actually have set up an account just for that. Just in case an accident/gets sick occurs out of the blue! My Vet doesnt charge me a office visit fee and is very reasonable in basic care(shots, teeth cleaning, worming, heartworm preventative, etc)

    Thanks,

I know out here in vegas the vet's I have been to are very expensive compared to other places. Does anybody have any advise or who I should deal with out here.

You can do most of your own vaccines and such at your house. The only thing I take mine in for is a rabies shot. You save a bunch of money this way. And plus, I think if you're gonna own bulldogs, you better know simple vet care.

I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. I TOOK MY DOG IN BECAUSE HE HAD THE RUNS AND WAS THROWING UP FOR 4 DAYS. I WAS KEEPING HYDRATED THE BEST I COULD, BUT ONCE I SEEN BLOOD IN HIS FECAL I TOOK HIM IN. OF COUSE THEY WANTED TO XRAY HIM TO SEE IF HE SWALLOWED ANYTHING. FOR MEDICATION AND XRAYS IT WAS GOING TO COST $500 THAT IS WHY I WHY I JUST GOT THE MEDICATION. HE IS DOING BETTER IF HE DID NOT I WOULD TAKE HIM BACK FOR THE XRAYS. THE VET WANTED TO GO THE MOST EXPENSIVE WAY OF COURSE

$500 for X-rays!!! I don't work at a vets office, but I know that price is way too much. There are a few people here that do work in a vets office and I hope they agree with me in that $500 for an x-ray is too much. I would look for another vet. Oh,.... and that insurance is a scam. Most vets I've gone too don't even accept it because it's too much of a hassle for them to collect.
