I had my pup chipped when he was neutered. It cost me about 35 dollars, Canadian. I,m not sure about the gps thing, all I know is that the vets here and spca have scanners in case a chipped animal is found and I was also given a tag for his colar with a website ad and an id number in case he ever got lost and some honest person found him, they could go to that website punch in the Id number and see my name, phone number, cell number, address and dogs sex and name and that he is latered.

No they dont have GPS. The micro chips are implanted in the skin inbetween the shoulder blades. If your dog is found and picked up, its only effective if the pound or a vet scans for it. It will give a code, and the vet/pound calls the company and they give your info.

Sometimes the chips can migrate away from the shoulders (we removed one from a dogs leg!), so if they dont scan well (or scan at all) its useless.

Its about $40.00 from a vet. Personally i would just always make sure your dog has a collar with tags on. You can do the chip as a back up, but i wouldnt bet on it.

i keep my do inside but my neiborhood isnt the best and i constantly worry about some stealing her, she wont let anyone take her but you never know.

my buddy has a rot. that was stolen and he had a chip that has a gps accurate within a 100 yard, you just go somewhere and tell them and they look it up and find it.but he bought it like that and cant get hold of the guy that he bought it from.

A lot of vets and animal control workers don't even scan. They sometimes forget. All my dogs had chips and tags. My bitch would run off and I would get a phone call from someone, it was because of the tag that came with the chip, not because it was scanned. It said "If I'm Lost, call #..." I suppose it's better TO have it than NOT to, but plenty of dogs are lost and stolen with chips and are never returned. There is no GPS on the market as of now... but I found some cell phones you can by for your kids that do (I'll certainly consider getting one when my kids are teenagers! ha ha ha ha! and I won't tell them!) so, it can't be that far in the future. But the day of "implantable" GPS chips is not far away. they are working on them now. Personally, I thiink one that attaches to the dogs collar is kinda worthless if someone steals the dog, they can just remove the collar.

Thing is, your kids will know that there is a gps in the phone!! They are learning too early these days. Why, my daughter is in the first grade and they are teaching her things that I started learning in the 5th and 6th!!!

I too agree with it being of no use when your dog is stolen. Here is a link with one such gps collar. It's from a French company. The way it works is really neat. These Europeans sure love to use their cell phones for everything. Once they work it so one chip can be implanted into your dog..........You know it will also be used on people. http://www.tracedog.fr/1index1.html

I got my dogs chipped thru this company: http://www.homeagainid.com/It was funny, the vet tech said they normally sedate the dogs before implanting the chips (you should see how wide the needle is!) but with APBT's they don't see any reason to because of their high pain tolerance. She injected it between their shoulder blades, and neither of them even flinched. She looks at me and says "any other breed and I'd have been bitten by now!"

A bit off topic, but I hear what you're saying. My daughter is 4 and can count to 100!!! She can also tie her shoes (only one in her school that can) and knows simple addition and subtraction, 1+1, 2+2, etc. We had a parent/teacher conference last week and her test results from September show she's already where they want her to be by Spring! She also knows how to work the tv, vcr, dvd, and stereo.......and plug in and turn on her V-smile video game system. Okay, so I'm bragging just a bit, lol

well, you already wear the mark of the beast. Chapter 666 of the social security code is where it says you will be issued a card with you ss # on it. Also, all UPC codes contain 3 sixes. I dunno how true that stuff is, but I saw a thing on it the other day, lol. There was a bunch of other stuff like that too that i can't remember off-hand....

I just wont let it be in my forhead nor the back of my hand. The technology is there, they are just waiting on the people. Simplicity. Cant be robbed, cant forget your card, just swipe you hand at Walmart or the doctors office, and they have you finacial/crimal/medical info right there. No more physical money, no lost money, no black market illegal sales...oh you can see it being sold to folks with no problems!!! I do believe it goes alittle deeper, but wont take no chance myself!

I hear you! I met a couple that has a pair of Rhodesian Ridgbacks that have the GPS I posted. That thing is something. The wife went home while me and him talked and he called that company to show me how it works and I must say that it's crazy!! Within 2 minutes they sent him a map, to his cell phone, of where the dog that his wife had taken was. I truly see this being being implanted in pets here soon. Also, if any one ever does puts this things in humans, I think it will be the Europeans to do it first. They certainly have different views compared to us.
