I never did like that base. All they ever gave us were quatermaster and half ready soldiers to retrain in combat.

HEY MISTER!!!! I was probably one of those half-ready soliders!!!!

(I spent 4 weeks at Ft. Dix for my Air Base Ground Defense training. lol.)

Ft. Dix & Wrightstown are both frigging toilets. If anyone has ever been there they'd know they're probably doing the dogs a favor by not letting any more them in. The pitties, Dobies & Rotties are probably breathing a sigh of relief! lol.

Oh dear you poor unfortunate sweet heart. I feel so bad you had to go to that dump. How did they sucker you into that rotten place. Four weeks whew good thing they didn't keep you there long I hear they don't really serve coffee it is really stupid fluid.. Count your lucky stars you didn't have to do sixteen weeks there. lol However dear you were not one of those half trained soldiers assigned to a special forces unit with absolutely no combat skills. not good for the one that isn't trained that well. heavy losses in support that way.

That really sucks! Thanks for the info. I now know of one place I really don't want to get stationed at.

lol. No special forces, just zoomie cops. I got suckered inot going to that dump b/c the USAF doesn't "technically" have infantry. So guess who does the infantry for the USAF? That's right - cops. Come to find out (after basic & tech school of course, they didn't tell us this up front) that my primary AFSC was going to security police but my secondary AFSC was infantry.

    Tricky bastards.

Sooooo ... we had to go train w/ the Army at Ft. Dix to get our basic ABGD training.

And, yes, I am glad it wasn't 16 weeks. I don't know if I could have handled that!

    lol.

Now for the million dollar question. Do you feel once done at Ft Dix that you were prepared for actual combat? That in your four weeks was fully ready to take on the deed of combat, killing and being hunted yourself? That was my job once those poor soldiers got out to our battalion. I had to train them so that I could keep them alive to provied that service they did for us in Special Forces. Now we didn't put them on the front lines as we were past the point that would be called a front line. That was usually reserved for what is called the infantry and tank squadrans. lol So it was a hell of a shock for our supply and cook personell. Not to mention clerks and medacs. I feet bad for them. I really did. And I didn't want to write their families so we trained them best we could in real time combat. or if they were lucky enough to be assigned to us back on some base.

lol, no we could not have done well in combat. We could have done the hunting but not the being hunted. For the most part what they did was lay down the foundation & send us out to our AFBs for them to follow up.

I was lucky & my 1st base was Kunsan AB in Korea. B/c of our location we did a lot of ABGD traning, so I did get that follow up. I have pics of me during patrol training, 81 mm mortar training as well as APC 113 training. We also worked w/ grenade launchers, 50 cals & mk 19s. But others didn't get that. In Korea we sometimes had cases where we had E-2s & E-3s teaching E-5s basic ABGD!

Luckily, we weren't front line troops though. Our job was to guard the AFBs.
