Our dog Azul began to act strange around my wife few weeks ago. He would want to be with her at all times and follow her every where. Though that might not sound strange, he never before did this. It was me who he followed and "kicked" it with. In fact, I thought he did'nt like her because he never paid attention to her. He also became very protective of her around strangers, which he never used to be. I first thought that maybe my wife was giving him all kinds of treats to win him over but that was not the case. Well, my wife went to the doctor for a routine check up and turned out she is pregnant. I don't know if this is the reason he has changed his attitude towards her but it sure seems like it to me. Also, Azul loves our daughter and it seems every other kid in the neighborhood. He is also very protective of my daughter, especially when it concerns other dogs. We had a very bad experience with a Mastiff, you guys might remember our ordeal. Back to the topic; Do you guys think that my boy Azul sensed that my wife was pregnant before we found out and that's the reason his attitude changed towards my wife? I've heard of dogs acting weird just before earthquakes and other stuff but never heard of a dog sensing a pregnancy. It's just a little weird. I'm a bit jealous also. How could he toss me aside. I used to be his favorite!!:(

P.S. Though I didn't mentioned it....we are both super elated about having another baby.......My wife would kill me if I didn't post that.:D

Well first Congrats! And yes they do change when dogs sense somethings different about a person or somethings going to happen. My GSD laid at my older sisters feet for hours and followed her around the house. It was so weird. We thought that maybe she had taken a liking to her(which she doesnt really like too many people) And she would get up and pace and start whining like she had to go to the bathroom. I took her out but nothing. But later that night we were talking and she started having very bad chest pains and had to be rushed to the hospital! Same dog that sensed when my cousin was about to go in labor and went crazy whining and crying!

I have found alot of bulldogs seem to have a very good sixth sense about them. Congrats on the new addition !!!

I don't think it is a sixth sense, I think it is because of their acute sense of smell. The hormones in a pregnant woman's body might make her smell different. I dunno about the heart attack, perhaps the dog could hear the heart laboring. I know that some service dogs can alert their owners if their blood sugar is off and I assume they do it by smell. There are also some service dogs that alert their epileptic owners if they are about to have a seizure.

  5. congratulations, and yes thats exactley what happened.

animals sense that stuff. Don't worry Remember these were not called the nanny dog for nothing. It is perfectly natural for a dog to kick you to the curb. I mean if you were a male dog would you rather pay attention to you or a woman? lol You're old news. Better get a female so you have a dog. He is your wifes dog now. Dogs read smell. They can smell fear, pain, cancer, hormones, farmones, sweat, stress and they also go off of movement and eye contact. Unlike us who tend to use more verbal communications. It is hard to hide something from or lie to a dog. A seizure is a chemical fault or short so tu se in the system. They can sense that change by smell, emotion and reactions.

I agree. A woman's body chemistry changes and emits new smells. I'm "guessing" that's what it probably is.
Congrats! Ain't nothin better than being a "mom"!!!!

  8. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW ADDITION, AND I AM SURE YOUR DOG COULD SMELL/SENSE THE CHANGE IN YOUR WIFE. DON'T WORRY, HE STILL LOVES Y OU.

Congrats! It's true that when a woman becomes pregnant, her body begins to emit different pheromones & that is what the dog picked up on. Wait until the pup puts his head on his stomach & hears the baby's heartbeat! DD used to LOVE to put his head on a my stomach (i'd put his ear down) & his eyes would get big but he wouldn't budge.

Now mind you, many of my dogs became possessive of me in a sense & wouldn't let my husband even sit next to me on the couch. For the first time ever & the last time, Chipper (my husband's OEB) growled at him when he tried to sit by me. But that's ok, after 7 1/2 mo. of vomiting 6+ times a day I didn't want him sitting next to me on the couch.:D

I guess you were right Attila; I need to get a female dog for myself! That bastard, which I used to call my dog Azul, refused to go jogging with me last night. In fact he did not want to leave the house at all unless my wife went outside. Man, is this weird! Going jogging with me was his favorite thing to do because he loved chasing the cows at night. It might seem rude of me but I can't wait for my wife to give birth so I can have my dog back. Oh yeah, and the baby too!!:D

lol I hope she has a healthy one and on time but I understand your delima. I am looking forward to seeing some baby pictures. I like baby pictures. babies and puppies are my favorite. Can't say he will want to leave her and the baby then or not hard to say. But he will probably go running with you. Nothing more fun than chasing animals for a dog. I like it too just now cows. I grew up on a dairy farm so cows are low on my list of fun animals to chase.

You bet I will post pictures of the new baby with Azul. And my wife loves to turn the knife on me too. She now introduces Azul to new people we meet as "her" dog just to piss me off. What a Bitch!! J/K Also, he better run with me that phucker. Talk to you guys later.

I forgot about this thread. I'll bring you guys up to speed on what's been happening. Azul also loves to put his head on my wife's stomach and won't move. He has also become more aggressive towards men who come close to my wife. By aggressive, I mean he stands between my wife and the person or "stares" them down. My wife is now 21 weeks pregnant. We also found out what the baby is going to be. It's going to be a BOY!!!!!!!!!!:D I can't wait for that little cabron to be born.

Congratulations!!!!!!! We thought we wanted a girl when we found out I was having a boy...but now I couldn't imagine life without Slade as my little man. Lots of daddys secretly want their first born to be a boy, so congrats again. This is what you can look forward to :D:

    Congrats!

And just so you know, your dog puts his head on her stomach b/c he can hear the heartbeat & the sounds of the placenta & all. Neat huh? ;) Several of my dogs used to do the same thing, but D.D. was obsessed with doing that!
