lol, do you know the origins of the breed? Well if you even know what gameness is, then you would know how well it helps the dogs do what they were bred to do. The last thing you want your dog to do is quit. When the going gets tough, the bulldog gets tougher

A game dog is more likely to have had proper breeding. This means less chance of him being a coward and fear biting. Also proper breeding leads to healthier dogs. Gamness is courage in the face of incredible odds, along with confidence. It is what seperates the Bulldogs from am-staffs.staffordshire bulls, akitas, tosas, ban dogs, olde english buldogges, dogue de bourdeaux's, all great dogs, just not pit bulls.

Look at the health problems that occur when a dog is bred for look versus ability. That is what is great about the game bred pit bull terrier, look at the stability, health, and variety.

  8. So How Do You Test Your Dogs For Gameness??

  9. swosprey

I leave that to the experts, I am just a guy studies the history, owns a dog and whole heartedly respects the breed. I also do not think breeding should be left to the amateurs, like me, so
I don't do it. But I have been around the breed long enough to know what I want and what works.

And what is the wrong way? It appears to me, that you started this thread for the wrong reason ; ie to bash others and get a lil controversy going. This is the shit that will bring down our breed, one group bashing another group instead of defending them. The gamebred dog has many uses, all of them fine if they're done properly. And all of em can be cruel if done improperly. So what ever someones chosen area is, if they take proper care of their dogs (and anyone serious about the breed does) then leave em alone and enjoy your own personal niche. United we'll conquer, divided we'll fall.

everybody has an opinion of what is right and wrong. you do not care for dog fighting but there is no reason to bash the people that may. if they are taking care of their dogs and bettering the breed more power to them. they do not come here and put you down for weight pulling your dogs. i can see where this thread is going and it does not need to go there. everybody needs to respect a person if they are bettering the breed regardless how they are doing it.

Weight pulling does not, cannot, and will not prove your dog has gameness! If it did every Husky, Akita, 100 lbs. “pet bull”, or any other breed that pulls weight would be game. That is just not the case now is it?

Gameness is defined as “the will to win a fight exceeding his will to survive”. It (gameness) is tested when many of the following happen…. FRUSTRATION, EXHAUSTION, PHYSICAL PAIN, AND NO RELATIONSHIP WITH HANDLER.

If you don’t breed for and/or have a game dog then all you really have in my opinion is a “street bred imitation”. They can be wonderful pets but they will never be a Pit Bull by any stretch of the imagination.

Olympianbulldogs: could you enlighten me on how weight pulling test for gameness?

look, thats what a pit bull is. its a game dog. thats what makes it a pit bull, no disrespect to pulling dogs, or dogs of that nature, but a pit bull is bred for game. thats what gives them the personality that they have. if you want a dog thats bred for just pulling then maybe you should have bought a husky or malamute type dog. not saying that pit bulls dont make good pulling dogs, its just that its the heart and game that the old time dog men bred into them that makes them good at everything that they do. if you lose the gameness in the breed then your not going to have the same dog that everybody from pulling dogs to game dogs that everybody loves. back in the old days all pit bulls were game bred and people respected the breed. it was the mascot for the first world war. its just when any kind of dog gets in the hands of the wrong owner its going to make bad press. specialy the pit bull because thats the type of dog that all these idiots think is cool, no disrespect, just my oppinion

  19. Sorry If I Offended Any Dog Fighters, Or The Backyard Breeders That Accompany Them. The Purpose Of This Thread Wasnt To Start Nothing , Maybe I Took The Wrong Approach To It Im Just Trying To Promote A Positive Image For The Breed And Introduce Yall To A Growing Sport That Pitbulls Happen To Dominate In . Hog Catchings Another Good Sport. Why Would Anybody Think Dogfighting Is Gonna Help This Breed? A Breed That Already Has A Bad Rap Yall Know, You Got Bsl Articles Posted & Dog Bites All The Time So..

I seriously hope English isn't your first language or your keyboard's broken. Seriously I can't even read what your typing.

True bulldogs would never be biting people. You never heard of the dogs that the oldtimers had biting people like you do now. It's these stupid back yard breeders' and stupid owners thats the problem.

Besides, if weight pulling made a dog game, than every pit bull would be game.
