Yeah, it is sad but death is a part of life and I agree, it is kinder to cull (kill) a dog than let it starve on the streets. You can do it humanely...by injection from the vet or by shooting it, just don't get caught by the HSUS. Everyone cannot afford the $100 or more vets charge.
Part of the reason we have so many abused dogs is because people just let 'em loose without spay/neuter and let someone else clean up their mess... I have had dogs PTS..old sick dogs that were just suffering and HA dogs. Someone here used the expression "give 'em a dirt nap". Well, basically they are all gonna die eventually anyway...do you want them die after a life of suffering? This is the way things are in life. Americans like to pretend they are gonna live forever and all animals are like Disney cartoons...it just ain't so...some dogs are better off dead and someone has to make the ruthless decision to do it. It's not that easy, but that is reality.
If people have the time and money to rehabilitate dogs or whatever, that is cool,it's their choice. Some are not so financially well off and cannot afford to care for a sick or old animal. I try not to make blanket judgements and "one size fits all" rules like PETA.
And unhealthy animals or genetically messed up ones should not be reproducing...it is a danger to human children. I have done rescue work and some rescue workers are not very realistic. They want dogs saved, but they want someone else to do it...
They deplore putting dogs "down" but they don't have the money or backbone to retrain them so they are living in la-la land. Other rescue people do. Let's not make blanket judgements on rescue workers either...It's like dog triage. Sure I'd like to save 'em all, but where are we gonna put all those "man -biters"? Not at my house...thanks...

If more people culled, the breed wouldn't be in the state it's in. What's more important, saving curs or defective dogs- Or keeping the breed true?

If ALL breeds were kept to working standards, and culled accordingly.....we wouldnt have the over-population crisis of mixamatch mutts overrunning every shelter in the country. But everyone just wanted "cute" dogs and didnt have the backbone...look were we are at now. All these "Cute" dogs are genetic messes, and the streets/papers are filled with mutts.

i too agree, people went stupid over all the pretty colors and shapes. and screwed up something that had been worked on for a centurt and more to be what it was.
and people who don't like what the sport is about, would do so many people a favor by sticking with their business. and their own type dog.

This is in respose to a thread that is no longer on here, but it kinda pertains to this thread. I would rather be EVANDER HOLYFEILD than TUPAC..

I WOULD RATHER GET MY EAR CHOPPED OFF THAN TO GET SHOT BECAUSE I'M NOT GAME.[IMG]

You said it right. You are not game. Getting your ears cut does not better our breed.

basically thats what brought this up. i was reading another post about home cropping of the ears and everyone shit a break about that and was like "thats so cruel" my point being is its so cruel to cut a dogs ears with scissors but its ok to shoot your dog in the head because it quit after 2 and half hours. i know what happens to these dogs. i juts thought it would be a good discussion for the board. i just hate hearing people say "i love my dogs" then they take it out to the country and blow its brains out. i mean if its your dog do what you want. just dont act like you love it. you wouldnt beat your sons ass for losing his soccer game. would you?

Cutting your dogs ears with scissors will not make the breed better or accomplish anything. Culling out quiters will improve our breed. Also you do not have the right to tell someone how much they love their dogs. Their are dogmen who cull hard and would die for their dogs. They will risk jail time to keep the breed up to par. This is love if you ask me.

that's what i'm talkin about. Some people to me seem so hypocritical in there thinking. They call me stupid for saying that. But they are If you are against ear clippin be against the whole thing. If you are against dog fighting be against dog fighting. Don't waver.

well I'm mainly reacting to the stupid comment post you put up on the other thread. But I don't think that killin anything is an act of love. We should just agree to disagree

If you truly loved the breed you would be for culling. If you do not cull the breed will go to shit. Culling is necessary to keep the breed strong.

im not talking about "how cutting a dogs ears betters the breed" im talking about the same people who cry over ears are the same people who say "its cool to shoot your dog" because its not game enough. i do beleave in helping the breed. by not breeding quiters but i think there is a right way and a wrong way to do this. you say:
"Their are dogmen who cull hard and would die for their dogs. They will risk jail time to keep the breed up to par. This is love if you ask me."
i just dont see how you can raise a pup from birth and take such care of it. when that dog is doing everything it can to please you and it just cant do enough and cant go on anymore even though it tried its hardest FOR YOU. how is this repaid? you kill it. i dont beleave that some people would die for there dogs. if thats the case they would feel something more for a dog that just put its life on the line for its master. when was the last time you put your life on the line for someone? and if you did do this and lost. how would you want to be repaid when or lose? im sure its not with a 22 to the skull. if one of my dogs busted its ass for 45 days with extreme training then lost. i would have more respect for it than that. it is mans best friend right?
