Did you or have thought about contacting the florida adba clubs? This is the world wide web...if you have to place him due to your duty, wouldnt it be a lil better to be able to have the opption of placing and checking up on him localy. You want to know that your dog is in capable hands, not what a person cross country may tell you.

Service doesnt = No APBT. Keep in mind this may be temp situation, see what you can work out.

Please contact Devilyn Sanders of Hernando APBT Rescue. She is located in New Port Richey/Tampa but can arrange a transport. I'm not sure if she can take him or not, but it's worth the try. I do transports for her, & if worse comes to worse, I MAY be able to foster him. How severe is his DA? I'm assuming he's sound with people? Is he neutered? UTD on shots? This info will help me greatly.

You may also want to try various rescues in your area. But be warned- Not everyone involved in rescue is pit bull savvy. Nor does everyone have the room at this time. I work for another rescue, but she doesn't have the room/ability to take on a DA APBT (If I remember correctly, you stated he was DA). If you want this to be a temporary thing & get him back after you return, then do what Simms suggested & contact Florida ADBA clubs. I'm sorry for your situation. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

please try a little harder to keep him. i know a LOT of people in the military with dogs, let alone pitbulls. if he is a petbull, you made a promise when you chose to take care of him.

Aren't there programs for people in the military to have their pets fostered until they return? Does anybody have any details about this?

Guys, this fellow said he will be living in the dorms. The dorms allow NO PETS. None. No dog, cat, bird, rabbit, snake, nothing.

There may be a foster program if you are going overseas TDY, but there is no foster prgram for airmen living in the dorms, as his living situation is a permanent thing, not some temporary 90 day tour.

I myself was a single airman w/ a dog. I boarded my dog at the vet's for a while, but it sucked. I could only visit him or take him out while the vet's was open. For example, I could pick the dog up wheh the vet's opened, but I had to have him back at night when the vet's closed.

When the tech came to get him when I brought him back, he would pull back on his leash, sit down & refuse to walk back to his kennel. So I wasn't the only one who hated it, the dog did too.

Plus, we had to be out all day. So if I got the dog out, we could not go back to the dorms & relax. Not to mention it was pretty expensive.

Then I had the idea of boarding the dog w/ a friend of mine who lived in base housing & could have a pet. Seemed like a good idea, right? I could get the dog whenever I wanted & we could chill at their house when we got tired of driving around, going to the parks, etc. Boy was I was wrong!

When I got engaged & my now husband agreed to take the dog it seems they had gotten attached my dog & didn't want to give him back! We actually had to go get the SPs to come over to force them to give me my dog back!

This guy is doing the right thing. Trust me. Been there, done that & got the t-shirt.
