New Evidence Found In Apparent Dog Fighting Ring

Firefighter Believed To Be Responsible For Gruesome Crime

(CBS) CALUMET TOWNSHIP Sheriff's police have broken up a gruesome dog fighting ring that trained and tortured more than a dozen animals. CBS 2 Northwest Indiana Bureau Chief Pamela Jones has an exclusive look at new evidence in the case and who is believed to be responsible for the ring.

Prosecutors are preparing to file charges in the case, and they shared some details exclusively with CBS 2.

The man believed to be responsible is a firefighter. Detectives say it is ironic that someone charged with helping with emergencies seems to have had a bit of an animal emergency at his own home.

A pit bull rescued from the man's home appears tame, but when it is near another dog, it reacts ferociously.

"They're trained to kill," said Lt. Matt Lubarski with the Lake County Sheriff's Dept.

Pit bulls make up some of the 16 animals confiscated from a Calumet Township home on Monday. CBS 2 was there as investigators rounded up some of the dogs that were chained to the ground.

Six other animals didn't survive. Their bodies were left to decay, wrapped in plastic in the bed of a pick up truck.

Detectives gathered a collection of items they believe were used to train the dogs to fight: a weighted collar, treadmill, a group of medicine vials and syringes, and a set of jumper cables with fur still attached.

"It's a shame because these dogs might have been able to lead a regular life someplace else," said Lubarski.

Also at the home were photos of dogs in apparent training. One dog looks to be hanging from a tree with its hind legs off the ground. Another is closed in a box.

Detectives say the resident of the home is a Gary firefighter. A training schedule for the animals was found written on the back of a fire department checklist.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department is still assembling the pieces of an apparent blood sport, allegedly played out on a bloody carpet in a makeshift ring at the home.

"For those who participate in this type of activity, we're going to pursue it to the fullest extent of the law," Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez said.

The resident of the home has an attorney, and the attorney has indicated the man is out of town. The attorney is waiting for charges to be filed.

Who would think that someone who is suppose to keep people from harm would treat a dog that way. That is truely pathetic.

 

Come on, this is the media we are talking about. There could be very well reasonable explanations for the syringes. There may have been no fur on the jumper cables.
These people are attributing spring poles, weighted collars, treadmills, and crating a dog (lmao) with training a dog to fight.
It sounds like another perfect example of the media's propaganda to me.

Not to say that it isn't possible. But if it is, these types of problems are a direct result of the bullshit that the media puts out.

I am not sure if there is enough here to be conclusive either way. Tread mills, medical supplies, a box with carpet?( Probably a welping box? how big of a box?) I don't think people put carpet in rings. All this is from what some reporter says he/she saw through a frence in a wooded yard. I never trust the media to tell any truth on any topic. To me they all just lie. They make money off of creating drama. I watched TV till I was old enough to work on the farm then I went Army and I don't watch it now. But I get to hear the crap on the radio some. I remember being in war and the media blasting all kinds of crap supposidly going on and I know for fact it was Bull doo. Getting them to tell the truth is like trying to get Bill Clintion to discribe a sexual relationship. Just isn't going to happen. However if we were to take the parts out with out oppinion from media. The only thing I find a bit odd is the dead dogs in a truck bed. But they were in bags so that is speculation as to if they were dogs or just trash. I have weighted harnesses, Pull sled, pull harnesses, immunizations, rabies vaccines, needles, B complex, bandage material and first aid equipement for my livestock, chickens and dogs. Even got some ear mite stuff for my one little bunny. I don't have a tread mill though. I suppose some how they could make any of us out to be fight breeders and such. I believe that the public needs trueisms. What exactly is a fight circuit and what is involved in such. Many people don't know what a spring pole is or what it would be used for, they don't know what a welping box is or what it is used for, they sure don't know what a breed stand is for sure or what it is used for, B12 only helps with soreness in the conditioning process of dogs, the complex also provides an extra release of energy for exercise and adds slightly to the endurance. We also don't know if he left town before or after they raided his home. In this case I think I would leave country and never come back. Either way they will find a way of putting it to him. Why? Because we have gotten to a point in law and government that we have taxation with out representation and law that isn't for the betterment of the people but control only of the law abiders. The lawless win and we get crapped on. This is what it all boils down to is ignorance on fire. Three parties being ignorant. The public, the police, and the law makers. Modern day witch hunting. In this case we don't have enough to go either way and we can't trust the law or the media to give us the real facts. Specualations yes facts I doubt it. I sure as heck don't see what tweve volts from jumper cables is going to do. Get your hands wet and hold one lead in the right and the other in the left hand and tell me what do you feel. it sure isn't going to do much. Other wise the cable clamps would be insulated. only the cables are not the ends. Why because there isn't enough charge to do any harm. I don't know what the dude had going on but I know we can't depend on the media to give it to us. I wish there were animal task forces made up of educated people on what is and what isn't fighting material. Even if the dead dog part is true we would have to know why are the dogs dead. Where the beaten, faught, parvo, worms, what? What killed them whould have to be determined. What condition were the other dogs in? So they would get wound up if put face to face with another dog. People often do that. Should we be put to sleep too? Suki did a wonderful job at posting the aticle. And she didn't place her oppinion on it. This is to open our eyes to what can happen if we don't watch our butts and keep every thing on the level. Many of us do give our own shots, worming, bandages, dipping and so on. We also train and condition our dogs for show and pulling. Or condition them just for hunting. It is up to us to educate folks to what tools are used in raising and breeding dogs. Breeding stands are used for all sorts of animals not just our dogs. But sheep, cows, horses with donkey's to make mules. They use the male Jack Ass to breed the female horse the ass is too short to do any thing with out a stand and the female has to not be able to walk off. Some hotels have tread mills set up in them for dogs to walk on. New York, England all around the nation and world for those that show dogs in big events and those rich folk that jet set with there pooch. Hardly a fighting tool. It is obvious that the media, public and law officials don't know their head from tail. Many people are over weight and we see many dogs that are grossly over weight. Public oppinion of what is and what isn't under or over weight varies widely. Americans eat more fatty foods and die of clogged veins their pets are fat too. The last aticle on this event talked of neigbors taking food and water over all day. Hmm ok. My dogs always have water but they get feed twice a day. I bet if I were to feed them five times a day they would eat it. Doesn't mean they need it or are starving to death. That is why we have to know what condition the dog is in. I have seen dogs starved to death so I know it happens there are some real butt heads in this world. I see them in the compitition ring some times too. Dog too skinny and the handler too agressive with the dog. Some times I get the urge to kick a bone out of the handlers ass for the dogs sake. You all know what kind of people I am speaking of. The ones where the dog is an image thing for the owner and not long ago someone coined the small penis syndrome on that kind of person. But as funny as that sounds it is true of many people. They are the same ones that breed the hell out of a dog, produce mixbreeds, poorbreeds, and non quality dogs, go for size or colour etc. By the way that still makes me laugh. This type of media is very bad for us and the breed. I don't even think they were all APBT. I wonder if any were? So now we have to find the fact from fiction. I pray that Suki keeps us posted on the progress of the story. However I don't feel the media will help matters. They feed off each other and after a few days they have fed eachother into some wild tails. Good job to ya Suki. I Pray for the rest of us now that we don't fall into the trap of the media and law officials along with Government buracracy

i agree with attila on this, yes its the media...but...some stuff sounds like plain old animal cruelty than dog fighting. thanks to 14rock, bullyboi, and others here i have learned all about a natuarally DA dog and think its retarded that just b/c two dogs get close wo one another and act like they want to rip each others faces off, doesnt mean they were "trained to kill", that is moronic. *However* i will say that in my honest opinion...*IF* the pictures of dogs hanging from trees and the jumper cables with fur on them *IS* true...thats cruel and there is no getting around that. *but thats just my little small opinion *

 

Thanks pepper mommy. if it is true it is cruel beyond my comprehension. We didn't even do that to enemy troops we captured in combat. Or at least no one under my command did. I have seen the results of such treatment of people by enemy troops and leaders. It makes me sick to my stomach to even think of it. I would like to think that a person whose job it is to save lives would not commit such a great evil as what is implied in this report. I would like to think I didn't spend 21 years of my life fighting for the liberty of these sort of actions by my fellow country men. A dream I suppose. I know my last post was extensive and I will try to keep it short. If it be true I would like to know why. And I would like to see the same treatment returned as a punishment. If it is indeed true. I pray hard that it isn't so. It is very disturbing to think of the mentality of a person who would do anything of the sort. I couldn't do such to an enemy.

 

ahh yes, but unfortunaely its never and eye for an eye in this country....otherwise the killer of my first child would not be sleeping in his bed tonight due to someone "dropping the ball" all i can do is hope that these alligations are not true. i do wish the dead ones had a better resting place then to rot in platic in the back of a truck...only b/c thats what i would want for pepper, and that is what i have given to past pets!

My dog hangs from a tree every day. LMAO. They aren't talking about torture. They are talking about a spring pole. That is why they said they were in apparent training. They think just because the dog is biting something, it is training for fighting. What a crock of shit. Not to mention that there are dogs in boxes every day for their own safety. It is called crating. In my opinion, if the news is so quick to make up bullshit like this and post it, they wouldn't hesitate to turn a few strands of carpet from the floorboard of a pickup that is stuck to the jumpers as a result of storage to fur that is a result of torture.

As I said before, it is possible. People do alot of bullshit as a result of the media's propaganda but this sounds like a prime example of the media's ability to turn nothing into something huge to rake in the ratings.

We aggree that the media makes mountains out of mole hills. That is for sure the media never tells the whole truth but sell news and papers. Out side of that they have little use. They are the drama set for people to take it in and believe all they hear and read. How else would politicians ever get votes. We may never know the full or real truth in this matter or any other matter for that point. The IF comes into play. If wrong he should pay and if innocent he should be free.

 

lol tommy, i TOTALLY had a different mental picture when i read "hanging from trees", ::::hangs head in media induced shame::: picture a freshly gutted deer!! hanging by its back legs, i read "by its hind legs".....wow, my brain was REALLY out there at 7am!!! oops!

 

From reading this thread. I can really tell how this site has changed into a bunch of pet bull tree hugging people. People get your heads outta your ass's. This guy has and doing stuff that we do everyday. I got pictures of my dogs on the spring pole i got pictures of in shape dogs. I have IV bags and breaking sticks does this mean i fight my dogs hell no it means im a responsible pit bull owner that is ready for anything that happens to these dogs.

 

um why the name calling? i seen the error of my post and laughed it off already. but please be aware that although this may be an instance of media garbage....no breed is exempt from animal cruelty, and like i think all of us said ****IF**** this was indeed animal cruelty, he should pay for his actions. thats all, no one is tree hugging, it just seems like wether its a pit bull or a pet bull, we care about the welfare of the dogs, and personally i dont see what is wrong with that.
