What would you do if you were out walking your dog and this happened. Which I'm sure has happened to a lot of us. What do you do? What if the dog comes at you aggressively, would your dog protect you? Would you let your dog get a hold on the other dog for both of your protection? Would you let your dog stand up for you and him or would you take care of business?

Have had this happen with a little min pin that ny neighbors let run loose.

Picked my dog up and carried him home. Thank the lord for small Pitties! lol

If it where a big dog, I don't know. Thought I would be in the right if my dog bit him since he would be leashed the stereotype is still there that I don't want to promote it. I would probably pick my dog up again and try to fend off the other dog myself.

it most places it doesnt matter if your dog is leashed or not-you are STILL responsible for your dogs actions. just because another dog is off leash does not put you in the right.
best bet is to either pick up your dog or grab your dog by the collar and get that foot or knee ready for the oncoming dog

If the dogs coming up just to try and get a sniff, or check us out ill just try to shew him off. If the dogs coming to my dog aggressively i do my best to avoid it.If he's coming at me aggressively, bad move for him cause he's getting jumped,i would let my dog handle the majority, while i gave him the boot. One thing i wont tolerate is HA from a dog.

I pick up my dog if no owner is around and get ready to kick the dog as hard as I can. If a dog is following us, I just yell GO HOME. A lot of dogs bark at Helena behind their fences when we walk by, Helena pays them no attention.

first thing id pick up my dog. if its comin aggressively, id pull a pistol(which i carry legally btw) and if it wasnt a bluff, lights out fido. at least my dog doesnt look like the monster.

there are no repurcussions for protecting yourself and your posessions. i dont need a dog to protect me, and if i let him scrap right in the middle of the street, i wouldnt be doing a very good job of protecting him/her.

I think it depends on the intentions of the charging dog like James said. If it's after my dog I'll try to avoid if it's charging me I'm not filling my arms so it can eat me up good luck to it!

Pick up my dog if possible, and if not, move my dog away, while shooing the other dog away. Should an altercation come out of it, separate the dogs. Should the owner appear, I give him/her a verbal buttwhipping.

Whether DA or not, a lot of dogs don't appreciate some random dog barreling at them from nowhere and my peace of mind shouldn't be ruined due to someone else's inability to walk their dog on a leash

its happened to me, was walking my 70lb pitbull/boxer mix with my new pup when a large GSD ran full bore towards us, so i picked the pup up and let the big dog do what he does. Now if the dog was smaller than my dog by a lot i would grab his collar and pull his head up and away from the other dog because there's no way im picking up a 70+lb dog that is all fired up, now if the smaller dog is still coming and i feel threatened then i'll release my hold on my dogs collar and let things play out. If people can't keep there dogs restrained its not my fault if something happens to them, just like its not the drivers fault if he hits the dog.

sadly it is your fault if something happens to someone else dog because of your dog-regardless of the scenario. you are supposed to be in control of your dog at all times. and if you have a bulldog- the case in not in your favor, people will not beleive that a 90 pound GSD is going to pose a threat to a 40 pound "pit bull". been there, done that.
and the driver is at fault if they hit a dog, 9 times out of 10 its because the driver was breaking a traffic law (i.e. speeding) or not paying attention. there is law in i think every state that if you hit a dog you MUST report it

I always carry a breaking stick, a muzzle, and wear steal cap boots. If I see a dog coming, I put a muzzle on my dog, as I know they can take whatever the dog might dish out, and I get ready to kick the crap out of the other dog. :D My dogs NOT getting in crap because of someone elses irresponsibility.

It's a sad day when it's your fault even if it's not your fault. But I'll disagree about the dog in traffic. While you usually must report it, your dog getting hit by traffic is most likely avoidable if it was on a leash

  14. I have a break stick and carry dog mace, usually it's the little dogs that seem to have the biggest attitudes around here, running up and barking in my dogs face or trying to bite her feet, they get kicked and yelled at. Every big dog that's run up on Jersey seems to get the hint real fast that she's not friendly and backs off and she doesn't even bark or growl, must be some hell of nasty body language.
I try and keep between my dogs and any strange dog but none around here are set on attacking people, just loose pets interested in my dogs. My leashes have a nice hunk of metal on the end and I wouldn't hesistate to smack a dog with it if it came at me. Also I've called AC more than a few times after walking my dogs to pick up aggressive pups running loose, maybe if the owners pay the fine a few times they'll keep their dogs better.

be smart about where you walk your dog keep a muzzle on it. A street dog will run away most time's after you give it a swift kick. ''if nobody see's anything it never hapend''

that has happened to me. what i did was kicked that little dog across the street. the owners yelled at me for kicking their dog but i told them to not let their dog run loose "was a yelling contest". yes i did cross the street to avoid that dog and it still crossed the street to get at us! also, it was summer and there were other people who has said that dog runs around like it owned the whole block.

Me, I would let my dog go to work. If the dog is attacking us and my dog is leashed, I have full right. While my dog is doing its thing I call 911 and tell them where I am and how the dog was attacking me and how my dog is defending me. Thats what I would do. If its not on a leash around here, its SOL.

    Ferk out

Why the hell should I have to muzzle my dog??? That makes no sense.

This happens to me 1 time a week at least because of where I live (huge town) I ride my mountain bike for an hour, twice a day on the side walk. I have avoided any confrontation so far. But really I don't want to do any thing to the dogs, But I would like to give a real nice a$$ woopin to the owners of those dogs!!! Once the owner was outside and his dog ran out of know where and ran into my bike!... WOW I F'in cussed the sh!t out of this dude, he didn't even get his dog, thats when I was gonna F'in kick the black lab (huge dog!) ran away across the street and almost got hit by a car, all you heard was SCREEEEECH! I was with my lil female, scared the crap out of her for blind siding us, lab ran away- she started to go after him he ran like a b!tch she never got him I stopped her but the dude must have pi$$ed his pants! F'in retards those owners. If that would happen again with the sane person I would straight up beat his a$$! Some people just don't learn. I still go out cuz my dogs love to run outside not the same on the mill, though i have one. People like that shouldn't own dogs! Besides for that incident its ok dogs usually get scared of the bike and run away.though I have never ever seen a pit off leash, thank god for the good bulldog owners around here! (pit is legal) YES! fight bsl!
