young pup.

hi all.
a quick question.
i picked up my new staffie today.
he is 5 months today.
a great dog in every way, looks, playful, and happy.
the only thing is when he gets excited he wets the place a small bit. (not out of fear)
just wanted to know did anyone else have this problem with a young dog,
and did they, or will they grow out of it.

He's doing it out of excitement, very common with young dogs! and yes he will eventually stop doing it

Yup, seconding what Black said.

 

Pups bladders are not fully developed at that age so they tend to pee more frequently than adult dogs as they continue to grow their bladders will strengthen and they will be able to hold their urine for extended lengths. Pups do pee when they over exert themeselves or become extremely excited nothing to be alarmed by. However if the pup begins to pee excessively experience any pain while urinating or has any foul odor coming from the urine than could indicate a UTI which can be cured easily with antibiotics and the vet can run a urine culture to test for bacterial infection. From the sounds of it though just sounds like a puppy who gets aroused or excited and urinates out of excitement.

i was hoping to start training him for weight pulling and agility trials.
any help and advice would be great.

I remember when I first met my uncle's puppy.. he ran into my lap, flipped on his back, squirmed around and shot a piss-fountain all over me. It was so gross but he grew out of it.
