This goes out to all those ppl who like to let their dogs jump up & hang off a rope w/ all 4 feet off the ground. Think ya got a bad-a..? I'll tell ya what, you ain't got nothing on this dog ...

I will say however, while this looks impressive, I would not advocate doing it for safety reasons.

Exactly the wrong way to use a springpole! I hope people don't see this and try to imitate it. This is an easy way to permanantly injure or disable your dog. Back legs should always be on the ground and the fronts barely off.

    Regards,

    B

Yep. I agree. IMO letting a dog do that is a good way to end up w/ a dog w/ a broken neck or broken back & I am hoping no one here is foolish enough to imitate that.

I posted it as a nudge to all those folks who like to post pics of their dogs hanging static w/ all 4 feet off the ground & then brag like their dog is doing something big.

I saw this video elsewhere and thought to myself, "Who is the moron who is letting their dog do this?!?!" Yea it looks pretty neat, and I'm sure the dog is enjoying it, but what happens when the dog can't walk anymore because of some kind of severe spinal injury or something.

Yes, it is impressive looking but the thought of the dog sustaining injury hasn't entered their mind. Nor does it enter the mind of anyone who will let their dog hang by it's teeth. If it did, they wouldn't do it.

I saw pics not too long ago of a dog hanging by it's teeth & told the fellow of my concern. He thanked me for caring but responded he'd done it tons of times before w/ no problems. But what they don't understand is it only takes one time of landing wrong to break a leg or worse, one fall to break a back.

I have a problem keeping mine from hanging. I'll lower it so low that their feet are on the ground, yet they'll "climb" up the rope by jumping and re-attaching so that they hang! They get more exercise elsewhere though, the springpole is a "treat" almost (mainly because they're too loud and the nosy neighbors are weird people...)

I have seen concerns such as yours expressed many times with the same answer as you got. It's an awful shame.

It is a shame. Then when the dog does have to get put down b/c it ended up paralyzed from a fall & had they're the same ones crying & looking for sympathy.

As for the "re-attaching thing" I break my dogs from that by buying a piece of hide big enough for a good full mouth bite. I then poke a hole in the hide toward the top big enough to run a length of chain through. Then I run the chain though the hole in the hide, so the hide dangles from one end & the other end I attach to the springpole. This will keep them from trying to "re-attach" themselves higher as the hide is the only fun thing to bite. Most dogs to not like to bite on chain, let along grip it real hard.

Dog runs - hit's springpole - and goes to swingin' about 10 feet up in the air

ABK that sounds like a good idea with the hide. I might have to try that. At a show here in OK, there was a man selling them. I do not know his name, nor the name of his website. Do you know of a place that I could order hides online?

I know there are places that sell it, but I can't think of any names right off hand. I will post some links if I come across some.

This video was on here earlier, but it was on a porn site. A very good way to injure a dog. It's a shame because he is very good at it.

WOW!! That was stupid. I think they are just trying to show people how stupid they really are. My dog hangs on his a little off the ground, but I don't let him get a 40 ft start, he gets maybe 1 to 2 feet, (thats it) and then he always slides down where his feet are touching. The video of Bud on my site on the spring pole, he was maybe a foot off the ground, and it was his first time, after that he started sliding down. What they don't know is that him swinging way up there does nothing for his muscles. When the back feet are on the ground, they pull with their stomach, neck, and rear muscles.

Eliminate the rafters and give the dog some room to work off the boredom=axle and 12 foot chain ;).

I've yet to see a kennel afford 12 feet in a 360 degree circle that is reasonably priced, and half as secure as a proper chain set-up!
