Discussion in 'Introductions' started by PghPitAllizey, May 20, 2007.

  1. hey wuts up im new here. i have been reading on and learning about the breed for a 3 months now and about 4 weeks ago i got my pup female and named her Allizey. Im from around the pgh area. So far she is a great apbt. she was easy enough to train to go outside but she still sum accidents here and there and i turn away for a minute (my fault). The guy i got her off of she was a Colby/ Jeep bloodline but i cant really tell seeing that i never can really find anything stateing the traits of each as a pup. what do yinz think?

She is adorable...Congrats and Good luck with her...There are some very helpful and informed people in here, so they should be able to help you out...

  5. nope no pedigree on here :( . Im juss tryin to figure out if she really is a colby/jeep mix. The father was all white like her with the light brown maybe brindle spots(red nose). The mother of her was all brindle(blue nose). The male had great temperment the dude let him out of the cage and he was playin with me and eveything. The bitch on the other hand was good temperment overall but could be lil sneaky he said. I really dont care what she is cuz she is a good lookin apbt to me. Like i said i wanted to figure out if thats what she really is or not so i can maybe guess her temperment when she gets older but so far @ 12 weeks she seems great with other dogs my girlfriends Beagle/Daschound mix. Her dog seems to try and mother her but only time will tell if she will be dog aggressive. I socialize her all the time least 3 days a week with other good temperment dogs and she is around tons of different ppl.

well, since she doesn't have a pedigree, there is no sure-fire way to tell if she really is the bloodline the breeder said, or if she is even 100% apbt...However, like you said, she is beautiful...

  7. thats all that matters to me...ya kno i done my homework but im just tryin to do sum guess estimateing....i kno she seems kinda big for 12 weeks for a female.. 18lbs @ 12 weeks...she is Not fat....this is my first pitbull so i tried to do as much homework as possible but u can never do enough....

Welcome to the site! And your pup is cute. :)

But to shed a little light on the situation, without obtaining a dog from a honest, reputable owner/breeder who has kept accurate track of his/her dogs' pedigrees, you can't be sure that your pup is what the person said it was. Jeep & Colby are 2 of the most common lines (along with Gator & Boudreaux) touted by bybs who have no idea what their dogs are made up of or even if they are purebred. The lines are so common that prospective puppy buyers have usually heard of them thus this increases the chances of a sale & money in his pockets.

There really aren't any definite characteristics from one bloodline to the other that can positively identify a pup has such. Since these dogs were originially bred for function rather than form (form follows function), there is a great diversity among looks in the APBT.

    And this comment worries me:
This tells me right away that the bitch has some temperament issues that the owner is trying to undermine in an effort to sell her pups. I know you stated you didn't care because she looked good, but you should care. NO dog looks good when it's being picked up by AC & the police because it clamped it's mouth down on some child or even another adult.

I'm glad you are happy with your pup & that is what counts. But as for me, I would have walked, rather run, away from that breeder as fast as I could.

  11. i know what you mean by the bitch but that maybe an issue that the owner did not correct when she was younger but it may also be in her blood...i dunno but allizey seems to be fine so far with all other dogs but i guess only time will tell..i will just have to correct it if i see any signs of aggression. Like i said before she seems to be takein after her father. So lets hope it continues that way....she looks to be full Pit...

now by sneaky did he mean she was sneaky and fight with other dogs given the chance or was it she was sneaky around people.because if it is she was sneaky around other dogs and would fight that is normal behavior for a bulldog, but if it was around people the mother needs to be culled and as much as it is going to pain you to hear it that pup needs to be culled as well.to much of a risk of being yet another problem.any form of human aggression is not tolerable.

i know it might have sounded harsh but yoou have got to keep an eye on it and do the right thing.hopefully he meant around other dogs and if so thats is 100% normal and to be expected so no worries there.but if it was around people than thats a diffrent story.but remember you have always got to do the right thing if you love this breed.

  15. i kno i will do the right thing. i think imma call him and try to find out cuz i still talk to him here and there he asks about the pup. About when she is 6 months u think she would start to show aggression or could it be sooner cuz i read that sum pups show aggression at like 12 wks (dog aggression).
