ok so i actually get the liquid kind that is made for cattle from TSC and they get 1/10th of a cc/ml per 11 lbs of body weight but at the moment i have a tube of the paste left over from worming the horses and i was wondering what the dosage would be if i were to use it and if it would be safe to use i have heard that the paste isn't safe on another forum sometime ago this is just something i have never tried it seems it would be hard to get the dosage right i don't know just asking if anyone else has ever used the paste and a lil bit of direction on using it if so

Does it work? if you get it from TSC, - dont know the cost, my vet offers a product called interceptor, that prevents any dog, that does not have any worms. Actually kills some..Stuff you are talking is what vet gives, probably similar dose....I can look in file and see what dose, if I have it.....

The paste is what I've been using for years, I've never had any dog have adverse reaction to it and I, don't measure it by weight either. I'll give them about the size of an eraser on a pencil, some a little more some a little less depending on the size of the dog. I do this once a month. I've used smaller doses for mange on a daily basis with the paste. Puppy's too!
It's a pretty safe wormer! LOL I worm myself with the leftovers.

Ivermectin does not kill all worms!
Other wormer's should be used along with Ivermec, Like a good Pyrantel paste, and A Fenbendozole paste. Tape worms from fleas can be difficult even with using all three. Take care of the flea problem and half the battle is won, the other half will be getting rid of existing tapeworms in your dog. I use Praziquantel when ever I get a flea outbreak. My grandfather used chili peppers and a half a cigarette butt back in the day, Swore up and down it worked! I actually think it prolly would to. LOL.

I use Ivomec 1% Ivermectin for cattle and swine. You do not inject the dog's you use a 1 ML syringe and it's .1 cc per 10 lbs of body weight. I inject the proper amount for my dog's weight from the syringe into a hot dog and then feed it to them once a month. Some dog's are Sensitive/Allergic to Ivermectin and there is a test you can have done at the vet to make sure your dog is not sensitive or Allergic to Ivermectin which is the active ingredient found in Heart Guard or like treatment's for the prevention of heart worms in dogs. Also Ivermectin is toxic in Border Collies, and Sheep dogs. You should also make sure before you start heart guard that your dog is negative for heart worms as Ivermectin can kill a dog who is heavily infested. I don't use the paste so I can't comment on it.

How often do you guys deworm your dogs a year using either the paste or liquid? I myself use the liquid 1% and think that once should be fine am I under shooting the situation or should I maybe deworm twice a year? thanks to anyone who replies...

Dont get what i just posted confused i use ivermectin 1% as directed every month. I am asking about dewormers because I know it doesnt take care of all worms and when using ivermectin 1% you should still use a dewormer. I am asking about the dewormer only and how often you guys deworm your dogs yearly... thanks

Thanks for the reply man, so that would be only 1 dewormer yearly corect? I thought twice a year might be a little bit too much, but some might do two wormers a year I dont know. I just dewormed my dogs recently. I was just seeing what other people are doing to compare with what im doing to see if im up to par. thanks again HARDLUCK AND GOOD TIMES

Yeah for my dog's 1 year and up they get dewormed once a year for intestinal parasites. And then they are given the Ivermectin once a month for heart worm protection. The only time I deworm more than once a year on the dog's 1+ year is if I see something in their stools. But usually once a year does it for my dog's. Ps I am a lady ;) LOL It's all good though. LOL

dogs can be injected. most just choose to orally dose.

^ edit to clarify: orally dosing is typically used for heartworms. injections typically are used for mange.

Yeah I don't inject for heart worm prevention I do know people do it I just choose not to. I have always been told to give it orally. I know people who will mix 1% Ivermectin with 1 part Propylene glycol but that doesn't need to be done either. I guess it's all in preference. I have never had any issues giving it to my dog's straight out the bottle dosed at .1cc per 10 lbs.
