The annual “Uncle Earl’s Hog Dog Trials” are held the fourth
weekend of March. The heritage of wild hog hunting and free range
hog farming is a tradition celebrated by many in Louisiana as well as
anywhere you find feral hogs. Some families in Winn Parish
have been hunting and raising hogs on the same land for generations.

A native of Winn Parish, Earl Kemp Long was an avid
hog hunter & Governor of Louisiana, and Winnfield has kept his legacy alive.

The Winn Parish Hog Hunters Association hosted the first
“Uncle Earl’s Hog Dog Trial” in 1995 to celebrate what would have been
Earl Long’s 100th Birthday, and it is now considered the world’s largest!
It has been coined the “Super Bowl” of hog baying,
we call it “The Grandaddy of them All”.

What started as a weekend field trial, has grown to five days of
intense competition with the best bay dogs and trainers in the world!
The Event has a tremendous impact on the local economy,
and attracts thousands of visitors from around the globe.

Over the years the Classes have grown to include a Puppy Bay,
Old & Young Dog, One and Two Dog Classes, and a Youth Baying.

On Sunday, the “Best of the Best” competition is open to any dog
scoring perfectly during the course of the Trial, with a “winner take all” purse!
In 2012, we added a Campfire Cooking Contest to showcase the
amazing food prepared by the folks on the grounds each year.
