Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Soze the killer, Sep 26, 2019.

  1. You no it bro..

im ill with some virues today..weak as a robbin..
but i have been seeing a lot more pheasents now you say.

lol.im right by a small shoot..and the main wood is very well kept.with lots if birds running round...its very well kept and rather bautiful i have to say...
but the small woods and courpses surrounding this shoot are owned by the concil and a kept very untidey..witch is what we want Lrs.as these untidy parts are so wild that you just no were the pheasnts out the main wood are gonna head for after they been shot over.:)

And besides i find it to my likeings that i can go of a road or lane into the wild lol.

Is the Jack Rabbit a Cotton Tail?
and speaking of Rabbits have you seen any this year?
I aint seen none whatsoever mate.

    All the best.

  5. No....dont use guns..guns make noise.
but a airgun is a very useful tool.and i am debateing over a cross bow or 22 air pistol.

Thing is tho Stedz...lol.i aint really welcome on privet land..and the hassle that comes with getting knicked with even a air gun on privet land is just not worth it for a pheasent lol..
    you got ;going equipt.
    armed tresspass.
    endangering lives.
    Takeing game illigely.
    poaching.
    animal crulty.
    and probaly more.

The 22 air pistol can fit in a pocket.
and is probs the best choice for sneaking around..its not as good as a 22 rifle..but can be kept low profile.

    I use a catapult mainly.
there silent...and they can be deadly.

    I use snears to...
but im really just starting of with these..again they can be deadly.can get you a lot of meat..but attrack vermin from miles..witch is a fucking nuisence.
as they will take whatever out the snears..
luckily enough, they take watever and dont get caught up in them.witch would be the worst nightmear..
trying to kill any spitting biting enraged vermin caught in a snear is something im yet to face..but something im dreading all the same.

  6. I have to just say that even though a catapult can be a deadly weapon...

A lot get up and run away.
    just my observation...

And im not that skilled with one the way some folk are.
wow..some folk are just amazing with them..

Being deadly honest mate...i loose more then i catch or find.
    all the best.

  7. And theres nothing worse then knocking something down and not finding it...

And i admit to spending over three hours only a week ago, looking for a pidgeon that i never found.

Do you or did you do any forms of hunting @stedz?
pm me about it if you want mate.

    All the best.

been thinking of getting a air gun, there are woods near my house and a lot of wood pigeon and squirel there, trouble is it backs on to a big public park, dont know how i would be fixed regarding the law.

  9. Squirel and pigeon the main for me..
Rabbit,Hear, pheasent, partige and duck im more after.

    Look.regarding the law-forget it.
(Youll need permission..and its seems unlikey youll be grated it in such a place)
Get used to were you walk.get used to not being seen.
think of it as a exciteing game.
the more confident you get in your surroundings, the more confident youll be walking around with tools..

Try getting some with a catapult first.
see how good you are at being descrete.
its hardly hangeble if you do get caught.(catapult i mean).

I find you can knock woodies out of trees..you can sneak up in the right wind when there roosting,or wait for them to come in wearing camo..so with the air gun you could get a few quickly and get the fuck out of there...

Weres Squirel i find genrely needs hunting.
you catch them of supprise or see were they go when your walking...so there for, your looking around quite a while for just one or two..

My point is you can get in and out with woodies..you gotta have a little mooch round for tree rats......

If you walk down paths or parks when no ones around woodies and tree rats are more aproachable to ones in quite woods ive noticed.

I like eating Squirel lol...winds the misses up.
"There just rats them you no?"

"i no love.i just smoked the fleas of it and cut the glads out its armpit...proper wild meat this."

lol...as i eat its legs with the whole house cringeing.

ive told her ill get her one day and she will be eating sqirel leek and cheese rather then chicken.lol

    All the best.

  11. Thank you sir.
Very much like a brown European Hear.
not as brown..but its got the same dark tips on its ears.

Get em in the pot mate.
when the meats tender.pull it all of the bone.and fry it in a little oil for about a minuet.
thats what i do with Hear.
also do not put salt in the water..cut a lemon in half and boil it with that..

@Lrs have you ever ate Blue mountin Hears?

Have eaten mountain hare mate don’t really see that many though it’s flat land and scrub I normally hunt on. As for eating I stay away from boiling it as I think you lose flavour and the meat turns more fatty. One of my favourite ways is to roast it packed with mint/tyme/ any tasty herbs. But I’m a fan of gamey meat so I think it’s what ever you prefer.

ive never even thought of roasting Hare though.
    sounds good now you say..

Rabbit just cooked on a camp fire is pretty good to mate..
yeah im a fan of gamey meat all the way..nothing better man.well more taste then farmed meat i think..
sqirrel to mate..wild as fuck they are mate.

Just a general question, If you guys were to get a bird dog for pheasants and grouse/partridge what would you choose for a breed? Maybe some of you have first hand knowledge of this? Reason I am asking is I would like a real good bird dog some day. From the few ones I have been around I personal am leaning towards a English Setter. There is a lady in my weight pull club that has a lot of dogs of different breeds and she has a English Setter (doesn't pull with it) that was bred for hunting by a good breeder and I must say after being around her I really like that dog. I have watched her work after birds in a field and you could tell with a little training she would be pretty hard to beat at it. Only down side is she told me they are not anything to brag about when it comes to ducks. What are your thoughts on it???

I'd use a German Shorthair Pointer. Love watching them work. Lol Wardog and I used to go before he caught some felonies. We both got Bulldogs though so we had to be the dog most times. Lmao. Good times.

German short hair pointer would be a close 2nd to the Setter for me, they are a amazing animal that's for sure.

  20. I would not no @ BB.....lol.its just not my thing.

I no over here for grouse they use pointers-english ones that is.
infact i just read in the paper (countrymans weekly)yesterday about a man useing Pointers (English ones)for grouse in conjunction with Peregrine Falcons...witch sounds awesome i have to admit.

but a man i read about in a Plummer book call Derry Arge used Setters with Falcons, but i cant rember what he used them on.and i cant remeber what falcons he used either now..
but i remember he did write books about Setters and Pointers..and he republished TH Whites Gos Hawk book.

Intrestingly i belive Setters and Pointers are not as versitile as the German short or wire haird ones...witch i have to admit seem like real awesome dogs when you consider how many tasks they are used for.
and i read a game keeping book that said they are better all around dog for a keeper with diffrent jobs..it said in that book they make a good gard dog to.
lol.in the same book this keeper said the best dog he had was a cross between a bullgreyhound and a shorhaird pointer...seems intresting lol.

But i think i your climete mate.a Short Haird or Wire Haird ill bet, would be better then a Setter.
Theyve got more to offer ide say.

now ive metiond working them with Falcons....has any of you folks ever done this or anything?
i think that dose sound awesome.
    eccentric i think to.

    All the best.
