Here in Alberta Canada we call them heeler's as well. Mainly blue heeler's some are red heeler's but not as common. I would say around here the three most common dogs to work/move cattle are border collie, blue heeler and Australian shepards. 30+ years ago Scotch Collies were common but not many around anymore don't no why? Out of the top 3 today I like the heeler's best out of the cattle dogs because they are pretty gritty dogs and if cattle don't move they will make them move. They are also damn good guard dogs. But all the dogs I listed are great dogs for the farm.

I am sure stranger things have happened.

I have had a few that died unexpectedly and had some presumptions on what happened.

You can see a couple of my dogs from the path. When I come home they hear the truck and know it is feeding time. They go ape shit. I could see one young dog, about ten months, barking and carrying on like most dogs do at feeding time.

I parked in the yard, walked 40-50 yards to the dog pen, started feeding dogs and looked up. He was laying on the chain graveyard dead. Just like in people I am thinking heart failure/aneurysm, something along those lines to be 'fine' and then to go quick like that. But I never could explain it.

The beaver fat may be the actual cause but seeing a lot of dogs eat much worse (the ass out of a dead skunk is my favorite reference) I would venture a guess they got into something else unbeknownst to anyone. But then again, I guess anything is possible.

And 91 and still living alone with stories to tell. Soak that up.

  5. I rember three big bull cross greyhounds getting kicked to fuck trying to pull down a red stag years ago..
the fella who told me had no use for pit dogs..but after this relyed on the pure breds...hed shoot the stag with cross bow and slip the dog(one),when dog had hold and dog and deer were at standstill, hed run over and cut the stags throat..
this takes the skill of Garston Pheabous lol..and such men are a dying breed.
but he also told me the stag most defeintly trys to kill you and the dog..
a 20-25 stone horned beast should not be taken lightly.
and i would be wary aproaching one with a cross bow..fuck that!..25 stone of horns charging ya?
a gun is a must for such heavy qurry..

The man who told me this is 73.and has not kept pitdogs for this use for many years....
but LOL..he still takes the smaller bambis with cross bow(no dogs of any breed now)when he can.

well i say smaller.....but Fallows are a fair lump to.lol..a Fallow still about 150lbs maybe more.

No dogs just him and his bow...
    73 man..fucking unreal.
    fucking awesome i say.

I would have least had a handgun on me and ready to fire when I checked to see if it was dead.Even another round loaded and ready in the muzzle loader if that's all I had.

  7. So would i mate......
i think this man gets a kick of danger lol.
he can tell a story thats for sure.
i was astoniahisd he use bulldogs..i was like how the fuck do they catch em on the run?..he said hes got a powerful 180lbs crossbow..and has the skill to get about 40 ft up close to the deer and shoot it in the hart.....i asked him how dose he keep the dog quiet on the stalk?....he said he traind it from a pup.
he said he likes rather laid back ones rather then ones what are hard keeping..he also said training a grown dog to be quiet on a stalk was near on impossible..he said it can be done. but he thinks it makes good sence to train it from a pup....

Hes not arsed about how its bred.and he never understood blood lines, but only used fighting stock.

I think it a incredible acivement.
and i think this man, cross bow and Bulldog would make a formidible team.

Has any one eles used a similar method?

First Saturday after Thanksgiving for me. I didn't do early season archery this year. I'm slacking this year. Getting pulled in a thousand directions presses my time anymore. Definitely going out next Saturday though. Can't say I'll get one but we'll sure be trying. Lol

  11. Just squirrels and birds this year for me as of yet...and not many atall if im honest.

There no rabbits around this year whatsoever...and all the warrens and runs are dead.

Around here rabbits seem to go in cycles. I think they get T.B. Grandpa always said to watch for lumps under there skin. We have two kinds here Jack rabbits and bush bunnys. Bush bunnys look like pet store rabbits. Jack rabbits are this big lean ones. I see more Jack rabbits in the city than anywhere I have never ate one but told there chewy tuff buggers. I hope to shoot a doe to make some sausage out of. Have two weeks left. Have not been out yet trying to put a little cash away hunting is expensive tags/fuel/ammo ec. Times are real tough up here these days everyone is jacking off the dog to feed the cat now. If anyone wants my simple sausage recipe let me know you can use any animal to make it.

  13. Times are real tough around here to bro...
im seein more ducks..as weve had a lot of rain lately and the ponds have filled up..but all the ponds have got this bad algi on them this year?,,..still,i shall feed them as best i can.and get a good number built up for the next month or so.get them coming to me,and after a few weeks,in pure Judas style i will throw a big net over them and wring there knecks(if all goes to plan that is)..and hopefully-get me some ducks for the christmas period.

    Terrible isent it?
but no more terrible the super market meat production,so i wont be looseing sleep over it lol.

I think Jack Rabbits are a little diffrent to the averge Coney..
the averge Coney is not tough,if its cooked right that is..but is a bit like chicken.i only started eating them about a year ago..and its good meat.
    theres none this year..weird.
these ones get Meximitosus and its vile.they get this in the summer.and it kills a lot of em.but some get past it a gain normal heath by winter.
they have gained some imunity to this to some degree over the years..but now some new desise or virius got introduced a couple years back and this seems to be taking its toll..

And yes sir!.lets here the rabbit sausege recipe please..

and yes equipment is just fucking expensive..right down to the last thing.
LOL..right down to the boots you walk in.(feet alway fucking wet man.but there aint no water proof boots in my oppinion lol.not wen you gota go in a pond lol)

I keep telling me self its not what ive got,its what i aint got....you just gotta use what you can.like some sort of Rambo lol.....

But deep down i no im not Rambo lol.
and its cold...and im always fucking hungrey lol.

    All the best.

    Box Bulldog Sausage.
-Grind your meat. I use a old hand grinder.
-Put your meat into large bowls.
-Add ground pork if you like I go about 20% if its a lean meat.
    -Add salt
    -Add fresh ground pepper
    -Add fresh pressed garlic
    -Add marjoram spice
    -mix evenly in bowls
    - make a small paddy and fry it, taste the paddy see if its low on salt/pepper/garlic/marjoram keep in mind you can always add more but you cant take it out.
-Get some pork or sheep intestines. Wash until clean (I put them around tap nozzel and run water through them)
-Put intestine over funnel on meat grinder.
-Tie open end of intestine with thick string.
-Start feeding that intestine your meat mix.
-once its about 10'' long flip the sausage.
    - Keep doing this until your intestine is done and tie end.
-You can smoke them if you like. I dont I usually just bowl or fry them.
If you have questions I will be more than happy to help you out. If you make them let me know how you like it.

You can also use the same meat mix to make breakfast style pattys or a spread in a mason jar.

Man I got a buddy I take my meat to and he makes jalapeno ,cheddar sausage that's right. He also makes a fine summer sausage and jerky is good to

Its a good thing to have a buddy like like that. Around here a butcher would charge around $350 to make you 50lbs of deer sausage. That's why I do it myself other wise its not worth it. Me and my buddy make it in his garage, Have some good old tunes on, Have a couple drinks, Smoke a few cigars make a fun day out of it.

Jack rabbits are more similar to hare if memory is correct...they do more running so the muscle is tougher...steam the meat and it’ll always be tender.. btw soze the recent rain will bring all the birds into roost so pheasant can get lost from there shoots in this weather lol.
