Most of the legendary dogs we know are known because of someone's ability to write a story about their favourite. We are emotionally caught up by what we read and argue or debate about these dogs we never seen.
These dogs were in all likelihood as good as the write ups portrayed them. But maybe the topic should be which dog was the best you seen. Otherwise we get young kids like that Zebo neophyte who wasnt even born when Zebo was around.

I agree with you. Many years ago this thread was started just for fun. Most of us know that The Best on any given day, night , ect is a opinion. I also have to say that Sports Medicine, "Anabolic steroids " are so widely used and have been for decades, Imo the Golden years of this worlds greatest breed pre 1976 was just that. I have also seen a huge decline in breeding for Gameness 1st. Hard mouth barn stormers is the bulk of the topic. I'm older than many on here ,I'm 53. I was taught that if we lose the integrity of "Gameness" we will lose the True Bulldog. I was also taught if we breed for Gameness 1st, the rest can be added. I still believe that today. I'm not naive to the fact that a super hard mouth Bulldogs can break down the deepest game dog before True Gameness can shine. I understand that. Imo, this has led some folks to believe that most of not all Bulldogs will quit. That's B.S. I have seen with my own eyes, "True Gameness"
It speaks my soul and no wonder that there is only 2 animals on Gods planet that have been declared to have this unique ability. The Real Apbt & The Fighting Gamecock. There are a few on this site that know that this is True. & Ofcourse the idiot's will come up from out of there mom's / grand mom's basement to ridicule this post. Lol , I look forward to it...

Ridicule no. Disagree yes. First let's address steroids. Can they improve performance? Hell yes. Can they turn shit to sugar? Hell no. I am no expert, but most dogs have to show they are show quality before performance enhancing drugs ever come into the picture. Let's talk in historical terms here. Take a dog like Pit General as an example. He was devastating before he ever got to the pit. I wasn't there, of course, but he was probably rolled right off the chain, no keep, no nothing and he wrecked shop. You are born with ability. Hard work, dedication and yes performance enhancing drugs can boost ability, but not create it. I can take all the steroids in the world and train like a beast, but I will never have the ability to play a snap in the NFL. It is the same with dogs. And now for the old gameness vs. barnstormer (ability?) debate. I say old because it is. There were people saying the same things when the Eli dogs started making headlines and probably long before. If their assumption were true that line would have faded long ago, but instead it has not only lasted, but it is also one of the cornerstone of many successful lines. When will some people realize there is more than one path to the mountain top and on the way there the paths usually cross and intertwine? Also these traits are not mutually exclusive. Meaning they can coexist in the same dog or family of dogs. This i feel is how most of your better breeders go about it. They try to breed complete dogs. There are many examples of these types of breeders, but some tend to miss this because they are to busy dreaming and romanticizing the past. I love it when people bring up their age and how long they have been in these dogs. It always reminds me of the saying that some people have 20 years experience in dogs and others have 1 year of experience 20 times. Well i guess I had to ridicule you a little bit. You just make it too easy. Also I feel if one was to really study these dogs, the early to mid late 90's was a great era that rivals the Golden Era. Do a little research of the dogs and dogmen of this time and it is almost ridiculous the amount of great dogs, yards and shows. The one drawback of this era is it also ushered in more peddling, paper breeding and other not so great stuff. Of course you know all this because you are 53.

There called game dogs not mouth dogs. All top dogs from all generations would be competitive with each other in my opinion.

This debate is the same debate happened in sports and music. “Who’s the best” or “What era is the best”. Truth be told things evolve and greatness is relative. A lot of people call pre 1976 the “Golden Era” but tbh in that time the game was a lot smaller and reduced to a select few who usually went into relatives a lot of times. The game expanded so did bloodlines, breeding practices, diet etc. I think all times and eras are great and it’s no need to compare because it’s all relative to what is going on in that time and space.

  6. Gonna have to agree honestly. But not only a devastating finisher- a true Ace. He could adapt to any and every style that the high caliber dogs presented to him, and make it look easy.

  9. Nothing wrong with freak. I would agree with you size.

But if you don’t think he was Ace you would be in disagreement with L. Hughes, R. Johnson, D. Adams, etc

he dose fit the description of a freak though..
ive always thought the only thing what beats the ace is the freak...

Oh and yeah,i sure do love a freak.

I believe he is actually Ex Gr Ch. His handler made a foul that was called on his last outing. He is actually a 7xw_1×L.

Simular situation happend with Gr Ch Art but he was never stripped of his title by the SDJ.
