My guy is 1 year old. He rarely ever barks but whines. When he is on leash around other dogs, he whines like crazy (tight leash trying to "play" with them, not hide from them) Also, in the house (he is a house dog) he whines when he wants up on the bed or couch. Should I get the dog whisper as maybe he is trying to talk to me (joke)?

Just curious if you have whiners and your experience.

    HI PHILLIP (again!!!!;))

My Lilly is a whiner, not to get up on the bed or anything like that, but definately when she sees another dog, I think she whines as she positions into the heel or down as she has been trained to do around other dogs due to her "off the chart" DA.....it may be just a release as she deals with her nature to acquiesce to my leadership!!!!!

I have a hog hunting dog that whines at any dog he thinks he sees , smells or come in contact with but he just does that because he is a horny b@stard and wants to hump anything on four legs. lmfao.

it has to do with the old old hound blood that is bred into the apbt's lineage

I have a whiner, that whines about everything. I think this may be common in APBT

My girl (only five months old) whines when she sees other dogs and cats, and possums, armadillos, basically any other animal.

My boy whines like crazy when he sees another dog and wants to get to them. Just dogs tho, he goes into quiet stalk mode when he sees small prey-type animals before lunging on the lead for the pounce.

Only other time he whines is if he's in his crate and we have a visitor come in. He wants to be nosey and see who they are.

My male is the HUGEST whiner. The worst is when he's in a car. Whines the WHOOOOOOOLE way, regarldess of how far you are going. Drives me bloody crazy. And then Scarling... gaud.. I don't think you can even call it whining. It starts out as a whine that ends in some blood curdling, satanic hell spawn yodelling.

they all whinge, house dogs more than chain dogs, its just a way to let you know, or to display their frustration. alot of the time without knowing it the owner will promote this sort of activity, and will praise the dog when it has a whinge by talking to it or patting it ,so the dog is taught that its ok to do it.

you sound like you allready know what your dogs version of "play" is and im pressuming you dont let that dog near the others? your actually lucky that all you get is a whine when it sees other dogs it wants to play with, most of us here would say if our dog saw another dog on lead they would be screaming like a burns victim.

just watch it and see if you think you are promoting it for the dog.
my favorite method is a loud stern "shut up", unless the whine is something i want like whinging at a noise outside or alerting me to a visitor.

If your stern shut up will get Tank to stop whining in the car, I'll give you my first born. :p

My girl sounded like a dolphin on the chain. My brothers boy just sounds like a creature, screeching at other dogs.

My GSD girl whines at everything, especially the cats. If one of the cats runs past her, she'll trot behind it whining [she LOVES to do it in the middle of the night]!

lol@ zoe, it works most of the time with me but its no failsafe. yelling at helpless dogs makes me feel like more of a man.

  18. IDK when my dog whines at another dog it's this very very loud awful whining sound. Not a bark but it's a high pitched whining and it either scares the hell out of the other dog or the owner of the dog and they usually walk very fast. But the thing is when my dog sees another dog off leash shes fine and makes no noises just wags her tail a bunch and makes me go over so she can play. I've tried ti figure out why she does this but no idea.

you should be glad to have a whiner out in public and not a screamer! lol

I ended up not even walking my "pit bull" mix anymore in the end because of it...
sounded as if I were killing him

problem is the other people's responses...
"ohh! just let him go he wants to play!"
uhh... NO he doesn't want to PLAY, he wants to eat your dog!
or people actually letting their dogs run up to mine to the point I had to almost lift my dog up so he won't get into trouble for attacking Fido or had to resort into dancing around my dog to keep theirs safe...

NEVER again will I go through hoops to keep those irresponsible owners dogs safe.
they'll just have to deal with the consequences of having an off leash dog walking up to a DA leashed dog.
at least if something happens to their beloved Fido maybe the owners will learn something instead of ME ending up looking like a complete moron with my dog screaming and trying to get out of my arms

Makes you go over so she can play? Are you serious? NEVER trust an APBT not to fight!
