Well hell....while we're at it, let's not forget that Floyd used labs in his breedings. JFC. Why stop there? Carver used Am Bulls and there's some red bone in the Red Boy dogs. I personally prefer a little ridge back and some mountain cur....must have black mouths, though. I'm also a big believer that Colby used a little bird dog in his mix. I'm sure I'm leaving out one or two of these monumental innovations. I'll hang around the water fountain and maybe I'll learn more of them. Good lord.

I think most agree this is the origins of the bull-and-terrier cross that evolved into the APBT (among them) -- maybe the $64,000 question should be when did the "statute of limitations" set in where dog-fighters/breeders decided to care more about a pure-breed than further experimentation with finding some edge (and resulting success) in the pit?

I was talking to someone from Ireland or somewhere around that told me has game SBTs. Outraced a few APBTs out there. I just gotta find his info again because I haven't been able to talk to him since I deactivated my facebook page. He uses Beanie line staffies. Ima try to get back in touch with him because he seemed to know what he was talking about his staffies' lineage and all that

LOL.....by all means, experiment away kitchener as nobody has the right to stop you...(WHY THOUGH???.... the mongrels INCONSISTENCIES to pass on its own 'likeness' has been reduced, along with its enhanced ability to reproduce 'quality',which lead to breeding true to type giving us a pure-breed APBT)
Anyway, to entertain your query what would you propose to use in such an experiment???....( I suspect your main edge is already waiting for you in the corner of a [ ]....LOL)......no doubt, it'll be a long, long process with perhaps a 'fluke' here n there and even less chance of long term success...well only time will tell and who knows BLUE8BULL might come knocking on your door.....LOL.

Errr... Maybe I"m in the wrong thread -- more likely I should have paid closer attention in school so I could understand your post. I thought we were talking about the early days of bull and terrier crosses and at what point(s) dog men stopped reaching out to other terrier breeds for gameness or working ability, per post 165.

LOL...opps I did misunderstand....I thought you had $64,000 to spend on an experiment....ok then, I'll leave you to boggle your mind over it because it's a silly question that has no definitive answer....LOL....then again, it just might need a special genius to figure it all out huh??good luck.

Yes I think these too many unknowns to come to a satisfactory conclusion....(once again sorry for my genuine misunderstanding on post#165...my comprehension improved with a second read....LOL)

Here's my take. I know it doesn't include archaeological findings from the days when the earth formed, but this is actually how I think it took place. My Big Bang theory. Two guys in Britain bred two damned dogs. They liked certain traits in what they saw, as the dogs were quarrelsome with each other. The pups displayed it even more. They saw that they had intensified it.

They then took 2 other dogs bred like the first pair and did it again. The same happened and the two gents were elated and excited (Reference; Shit-eating grin face).

The news spread. Others wanted them. So, they made a few pence off the discovery, and over time and with increased popularity, they and others began to refine and define a new breed of dog. So....we credit the chaps of the British Isles for the beginning of what we have today. Derbies doffed to ya, mates.

Once the refinement and definition of the dogs were further promulgated by these British gentlemen and their followers, some folks in the USA got wind of these dogs and what they seemed to be able to do. So they went straight to e-bay and ordered a few. "Jesus! Why fuckin' not??!!" they said. These dogs were imported and the few US gents who imported them, began to check them out and used great selectivity to further their refinement, and hence define them as a breed.

They began calling them Yankee terriers as they suspected some terrier in them because of physical appearance. Some called them Staffordshire dogs as so many came from there. Some of them called them American Pit Dogs, American Bull Terriers, and eventually American Pit Bull Terriers. We did so because we are Americans, and that's just how the fuck we are. As space grew smaller in Britain, and laws and ordinances grew more rigid, the gents in the USA spread dogs to similarly interested people here, and with that, the refinement and definition of this new breed became accelerated and add the basic beginning of gambling competition with some of them, and you can see how it accelerated it even more. Even rather snowballed.

Well, our good ol' American dog pioneers did a terrific job of selectivity and proliferating desired traits. The breed was becoming defined more than ever. And with Americans having more room and basic freedom of activities than those poor ol' cramped Europeans, Our early people truly made giant margins with the dogs.

In time, around the late 70's and through the 80's and 90's, heady Europeans began to retrieve the qualities in the dogs that they were a bit limited to freely breed in ample number. Not their fault. No way. But they began in that particular era, to beckon certain American gurus (Some may call them peddlers) to sell some of the dogs back to the motherlands before they became illegal there; Smart.

So now, here we are with a much smaller world, and other than the few who were royally screwed when purchasing dogs from certain icons here in the US, most of Europe has flourished from their purchases, and in some parts of the old country, have more freedom to be active and move around than we do here in the good ol' USA.

So just think............Now, EVERYONE has a piece of the pie as to making these dogs as great as they are today. Some, a second chance with which they have made good, and my hat is off to them.

Their origin will always be a secret formula, as I am SURE those two Brits wanted secrecy of the recipe. Might as well make a few dollars before your shit is copied, right? So, let's agree that no one living really knows what those two dogs were, and now that the entire world can claim share to the greatness of the breed, the whole dog loving planet can be happy as sissies with two assholes, and not worry about what those two damned dogs were!!
