When did discrimination become ok to bully owners

I started a thread in another forum on the BSL and Pet Smart. In their summer day camps and doggy hotels(Ithink thats what it is called) they do not allow bullies. Some said good it is just an accident waiting to happen and we do not need the bad press. Agreed on the press issue. But when did bully owners start to think it is ok to ban just the bully? Is the bully the only dog that may get in a fight? Have no other breeds ever been used of fighting one another? Have no other dogs killed and attacked humans? If the answer is no to the above questions then why is it ok to send a message to the public and to legislators that there is something different about the bully. I hope that others will become as angry about this as I.

 

I don't think anyone here agrees with any type of BSL or BAN on our breed. All most are saying is it is best not to put one of our dogs in a situation where yes a fight could break out! Our dogs aren't the only ones to have a history of fighting, attacking or killing other animals, but Bullies are the ones under the microscope these days. No it's no fair, or is it ok to be discriminated against. It is the way the world is going right now and without all of us taking a stand and saying "NO , we won't do it" when the laws are put into play , the goverments will keep bending us over the tables and ....... well you know were I am going on that one. The BEST thing to do as an owner of any Bullie Breeds is to just keep to your self and don't put your dog in a situation were even if it's not him/her that starts it , it will be them that is put to sleep!!!!So to your Question, I hope I answered it for most of us here.......Remember Ontario Canada has put a Ban on my dogs starting August 29th 05 and I Too am as upset about this as you!!!!

we have bans in a couple of towns close to me. for all my studdies and reading and research before getting mine, i learned that german shepards and labs are way way more likely to attack kids/people than a pit. so why not ban german shepards?? i don't agree with this banning stuff!!!!

It should make people screaming mad! It is about the priciple. It is about the message it sends to others. It reaffirms the unfounded fears that so many have. It is just not right. They allow the dogs to be adopted in their stores, bathed in their stores, and trained in their stores, but the dog is to dangerous for their fuity little programs but the rottie is ok, the chow is ok, shepards are ok, labs are ok. This is just another travisty in the long list of travisties

 

The Reason is Too MANY RICH HIGH POWER PEOPLE OWN GERMAN SHEPARDS!!!!

 

i dont think any type of breed should be banned that would make us the same type of bastards trying to ban our breed.they should just enforce leash laws and all that crap

Dano let the hip hop artist start using the shepard like they do the pit and see how long it takes for the number of shepard bites ans attacks to rise. Thug life is a detriment to the breed of their choice, it is the pit now but it can and probably will change to another sybol. Just not soon enough for me.

 

GaDog, is that comment not exactly what you are saying shouldn't be. Is it not discrimination?? Just because " HIP HOP" artist use pits in their vidoes does mean they will get their dogs to attack the press or general public. As far as I know ( don't quote me ) is no Artist has ever done that. We need to focus on the real problem and that is back yard breeders and unfit owners. Maybe if the goverment would focus here too then we wouldn't have the need for BSL.

 

There is good and bad in EVERYTHING out there.

GDS's have been biting people for years.. (wow, theres a good slogan for them.. a billion and one bitten)

It all boils down to responsible ownership. You know a pit bull can be other dog aggressive. You know that if your dog chooses to go after another dog the chances of that dog being hurt is a given. Now it doesnt make it right..but little fluffy numkins the toy poodle is alot easier to hang onto .. and it is so cute to see them act like a big bad guard dog (sarcasim there)

Dano has it right.. now your dogs may get along great with other dogs and be trained to a T ...but the problem arises when owners who THINK their dogs like other dogs start bringing them to certain places an "OH, Petey has never acted like that before" ... so there you have it. Another pit bull attacks another mutt , the owners have no idea how to properly break up the tussle, stick body parts where they dont belong, get bit and all of a sudden its another pit bull attack.

No, its not right to ban a certain breed. They should ban any dog that acts aggressive .. (however, most dogs brought in for training have unruly behavoir..)

Another good reason why people who own pit bulls should not only understand but respect the history of the breed..

 

Good point rocksteady, and that is part of the responsible ownership is knowing yer dog and it behaviors. My dogs are in public alot and that is always in the front of my mind. My dog, the proximity of other dogs, being prepared to pull mine back if a stupid owner thinks its cute to let their pom bark at my little girl. Yes it is always an owner issue. If the dog is just stupid for whatever reason it is still the owners responsibility to do what ever may be nessecery to keep the the public safe. Pet Smart has done nothing but pick out one breed and decided to ban the one breed because they think it is best for the publics safety. Hogwash. If they are worried about the public and their dogs there would be health checks at the door, 4' lease laws enforced in the store and little kids not allowed to just run around and get in the faces of any dog they please. Pet Smart is just watching the press and going with the flow of ignorance.

 

alot of the problems seems to be growing..literally. i had my dog at the park yesturday and this little kid wanted to pet her, so i let him. he asked alot of questions about her, and then went on playing. i came back around and another little dog came up trying to play with mine, all the suuden the same lil kid comes runnin up screamin at the top of his lungs,"get it pit, tear it up, kill that thing". bringing every eye in the park onto my dog jumpin around trying to play. kids like thuis, will be teens soon. they'll get a pit (or something that looks si,ilar to a pit byb) to look like a cad-ass. and to be a bad-ass, you gotta have a dog that's a bad-ass to everybodyand everything.

 

Here in Ga we are in the high schools or some high school and we hear way to much about what these little bad-asses are going to do or are already doing with the breed. Hip hop and other forms of glorification of fighting is breeding new generations of animal abusers. And no not all hip hop is bad if ya like that sort of music. I very seldom see country stars walking their snarling pits and having them lung at the cameras. My opinion.

 

Interesting, i've been taking my male to Petsmart for 2 years now ever since he was a pup. If this is true then I don't want to support a company that is discriminative towards our breed and will tell them they will be losing a good customer because of this. Many people who own pit bulls go to Petsmart and i'm sure they will be angry when hearing about this, lets see what they tell me.

 

Damn it is so simple why cant you see? It is not that you would take advantage of the program it is the fact that you can not because you own a BULLY. Your choice has been taken away in the matter.

 

Oh and for those who think I know all I do know about this so thank you for your support and the demerits.

 

suicide is illegal ..dont you think we should have that choice to kill ourselves if we wanted to, too?? I mean ya can, how they gonna prosecute you when your dead ( lets see..oh ya, they take away your life insurance )

"laws" are put inplace to protect the idiots from themselves. And like was stated before, far to many people have thicker skulls than their bulldogs when it comes to thinking their dogs will always get along great with others.. all it takes is ONE time..and bye bye little fluffy.

So cant you see that maybe this is a good thing?? Too many people dont THINK and thats (hopefully) why its a good idea...stop the idiots from giving the breed a bad name

 

Then is BSL a good thing if the owner can not be trusted.

 

If it is ok for PetSmart to protect us dog owners why is it wrong for the politicians to do the same thing. Freedom means that stupid people can be stupid but it also means I have a choice of being smart or stupid, I want to have a choice, call me crazy.
