what are the best forms of exercise to target different muscle groups?

    what does weight pull work?
    biking?
    springpole?

will these three alone put my dog in the best shape?

weight pulling and springpole work most of the muscle groups. the springpole worksalot in the neck mouth and shoulders.....never seen one ride a bike though;)

I'd add handwalking and flirtpole to those 3 things. I prefer flirtpole to spring pole, but that is just me.

Flirtpoles are EASY and cheap to make. About 5 bucks and you'll have yourself a good one.

Make sure your spring pole is low enough so the dog's back legs are touching the ground. Some people think it is cool for the dog to hang, w/ all 4 feet off the ground. I think, some may agree, that can be dangerous. Make sure the spring pole is low enough to the ground.

it is usually better if all four legs are on the ground

Swimming is IMO one of the best ways to get a dog in shape and it works everything and a hard cardiovascular exercise.

He won't pull when handwalking. Too many years of training not to.

Too cold to swim right now.

How do I target his gluts?

Glutes? Well, I think, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, uphill on a mill. I have a bunch of bricks under the front end of my treadmill (probably 20-25% grade) and I put the dogs on there for about a mile or so. I know it's not that far, but going up hill like that is TOUGH!

I think running/walking in sand is good, but you're in PA, so that is not an option right now.

The dog does not have to 'pull' on the leash. I am a TOTAL advocate of dogs who look 'under control' and NOT pulling on the leash. Pulling pit bulls (IN PUBLIC) to me is a major no-no and looks out of control. JMO I like my boys/girl heeling nicely beside me while we're walking through town.

    Hope some of that helped.
