What about a new pedigree database website?

Discussion in 'Feedback & Suggestions' started by virtualpedigrees, Dec 22, 2009.

  1. I am back thanks for commenting on the weighting your opinion on this subject

@Laced-Wit-Game Good question, but unfortunately, Pedsonline is a whole different company altogether. I don't have access to they database, to be Frank they have tons more peds than I do, but there are far from being organized and most of they data is incorrect at best. I am trying to organized my data as best as possible, you will not find as many duplicate (if any), incorrect b-day's and owner info in my database. However, they are some user's that do export info from pedonline to my database, we don't encourage that method, but we do our best to effectively correct any possible error's.

Thanks @Naustroms your correct, I am crowd sourcing this pedigree database, so the more users the better. I have created some great features for the community to take advantage of.

Thanks @Laced Wit Game, I have a few people who work and help me organize the pedigrees data, but I am still looking for more users and contributors..

@rhumble I need more than luck, I need some user power

I looked at your explanation. And then I looked at Jeep's pedigree that you gave as an example. Your program said it was a 4 generation ped. Your program is counting the dog as a generation.

The dog itself, Jeep, is not counted as a generation. The first generation of the progeny are the parents.

This is a 4 generation pedigree:

    ONLINE PEDIGREES :: [332225] :: DB'S BLACKJACK 8

    :)

  5. Correct, it's referred to "Generations in pedigree" 1st being the actual dog, in this case Jeep.

However, I am thinking about redesigning the pedigree table, so the parents appears within the 1st generation, I believe your right on this.

    Thanks, for the heads up!

The progeny cannot be the first generation. The first generation is the sire and dam! :)

  11. Hey Virtual first off thanks for the service, I'm about to give it a try as up till now I have been writing out my peds. I am overseas and have no worries about the fascist laws against the breed so I could care less who sees them.
On another note, big brother is already in feds-online and all the rest so if anyone thinks this is any more or less risky I believe you are wrong about that.
When people ask me how a dog is bred I get tired of typing out a whole ped for them and this will definately make it easier on me so once again thanks a lot.
Needless to add that the service is free and I am not against paying for a service but where I live it costs me a minimum of 55 dollars to send any payment so a membership to feds-online for one year would run me almost 100 bucks and that is simply not worth it to me for the 3-4 times I may show a ped to someone in a year.
Best of luck with the service.

  12. Virtual it's not allowing me to add any dogs. I keep getting this error...

Query failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'xxxx','2331')' at line 1

Any help would be appreciated, I followed your instuctions to the letter.

I think that error has something to do with punctuation marks??? i dont know maybe try without any punctuations... virtual can probably explain it better:D

Well, Mr. jeepfreak, even proxy maskers, when presented with a subpoena have to give up the proxy they are masking. So, if you are violating federal laws, and, as part of that investigation, someone is scrutinizing your online activities, your proxy maskers basically don't protect you from a thing. There's not an off shore server in the world that can save you from that.

As technology advances, the internet gets smaller.

  15. Ok thank you it's working now. I guess it was the punctuation or something.

As far as the rest of the posts about this the man is putting a lot of work into this and it seems no one is appreciating it and I think that's wrong.
The service is offered as is to anyone wanting it, if you don't like something about it then just don't use it, it's that simple.
What a waste of time it is arguing about wether this or that, time much better spent on caring for ones dogs I think.
Personally I am greatful to this Virtual person for the work he has put into it and I hope he can continue to do so. Tanx Virtual.

  16. Thanks @GemCityPits on helping out with the technical question @gringopistolero had, it's a punctuation mark issue.

@gringopistolero thanks for your kind words, my service is FREE for everyone and anyone to use. I have spend tons of hours supporting and building this service from an idea to reality for many years now. I have many many more years to get it off the ground.

@3MTA3 also thanks for the lil tidbit about "proxy masker"

my only hangup is not as much people are following the rules I have set forth. To all and future users please read my blog post below and follow virtualpedigrees rules, it will make the database a lot structured and well organized.

Thanks everyone for the positive and insightful comments, if anyone wants to see any new features on the website, please email support@virtualpedigrees.com and we will work on getting those features available in the near future.

  18. It's been awhile....but I am back. I have lots of content to upload. I'll try to provide 1-2 artciles a week about dogs of the past, as far back as the earlier 1900's alone with pedigrees of these historical warriors.

    stay tune.... Virtualpedigree
