When I was gaining weight I ate 6-7 meals because i had to put down 4-5000 calories a day, and that's not easy to do when your eating clean. I'm talking 400 grams+ of protein, etc.

It's been a couple years since I've seen them. Just GOOGLE "6 small meals vs 1 meal" or "6 meal myth". Anything along those lines will probably bring up a ton of stuff. Think about it like this, though: it takes about 12hrs to digest a meal. Even with 1 big meal, you're body is still going to be releasing nutrients over that 12hrs. Essentially, 1 meal will take care of 3-4 smaller meals. I've been doing this stuff for over a decade.

    f

Exactly. I spread out my meals because I can't eat what I need in 1 meal.

I subscribe to the high protein, high fat, low carb approach of keto. Trying to take in 250g/protein, 300+g/fat, and <20g/carbs is hard to do in a day, let alone 1 meal. If I could, I would though. It would give me more free time in the day.

I'd like to read some references too, has to be scientific papers though not something written by an "internet guru". Would love to read what you have.

there is no reason to it, I am sure you know it, why bother?
WWII good luck in your athletic efforts, I sincerely wish you success and longevity. Keep doing what works best for you.

  5. It's not rocket science. Burn more calories than you take in. Lots of protein, low fat, no simple carbs only complex carbs. I do eat many small meals a day and it has been successful for me. I do weight lifting 5 days a week and cardio every day. Drink lots of water. No sugars. So far I've lost 72 lbs since March.

If you are the person I think you are from photos I 've seen, then your success could inspire and teach many people, have you think for a personal blog or something to report and monitor your progress? It could also keep you focused.
PS If you hit a "stagnant point" then we could talk "rocket" science:)

Like I said, it's been years since I've read anything on it. I think Lyle Mcdonald did a study or focused on a study that basically said that smaller, more frequent meals didn't help people to lose weight as compared to the standard 3 meals/day. Here's a quick Abstract I found on a study that L. Mcdonald commented on. There are plenty more, but like I said, it's been a good 4+yrs since I've read about it. This study came out in 1997. It all boils down to 6 meals does not keep the metabolic rate higher than any other meal plan.

The KISS (Keep it simple stupid) method is almost always flawless. Don't think I'm taking anything away from you from my following comments because most people don't have the determination to lose any weight, let alone 70lbs+. Since you've lost that much, I'm guessing you had quite a bit to lose. Calories in<calories out works great....up to a point. The diet of high proteins, low fat, complex carbs works great....up to a point. It is my opinion, and a strong one, that the body runs much better on a moderate protein, high fat, minimal carb diet. I believe that carbs, no matter if they are "simple" or "complex" is the reason our obesity and diabetic rate is so high. People simply don't understand how macros are broken down and the response that it causes by insulin. I firmly believe that ketones are a better energy source (outside of long distance running) than glucose, which is what carbs and protein break down into which in turn causes insulin spikes, which in turn causes fat gain (at inappropriate times). To make it simple, eat fat to lose fat. I'm a huge proponent of a ketogenic diet. If you want to know more about it, let me know.

  10. Right on man. I ALWAYS want to learn more so trust me I'm open minded to anything you have to say. I do take in plenty of fat. Just not bad fats. I use olive oil to cook with and eat different nuts daily. Good fats = good for your heart. I also did know that you have to take in fat to lose fat.

Up to 83 lbs now :) Going to lose another 160

  11. Thanks a lot :) I never really thought about blogging about it. Never been into blogs all that much. I've had so many people ask me if I've had gastric bypass surgery or I'm on pills. LOL I've even had people ask me if I'm using meth LOL Nope! None of the above, just hard ass work and sensible food.

    Thanks! :)

    Thanks! :)

Wow Brian You better go with your bad self!

I can vouch for this after I had my kids I went on a low carb lifestyle I basically eat lot's of protein and get my carbs from green veggies and low glycemic fruits like berries. I stay away from sugar and refined carbs! I sparingly drink diet soda but mostly water and powerade zero which is gatorade without the sugar.

Wow. I have seen some photos of you around here and never would have guessed you had that much you could lose. I'll have to check out some recent pics since I haven't really been that active on here recently due to life. But that is truly amazing.

Fats are an awesome thing. When I use fats as my energy source, I don't get bloated, my energy levels are more stable, and my joints feel helluva lot better. A lot of fish oil, heavy whipping cream, and EVOO are my main sources. I get a good amount from the red meats and whole eggs I eat. And a little from snacks like almonds. I try to keep my carbs as close to 20g/day as I can. Pro-tip: Fiber does not count towards total carbs. If something is has 5g of carbs and 3g of that is fiber, then the actual amount counted towards daily carbs is 2 because of how the body utilizes fiber.

Lyle Mcdonald utilizes a ketogenic diet, and so does Dave Palumbo. Definitely look into it a little bit. There is a ton of information out there on it. Plus, it's nice to be able to eat bacon and hamburgers on a diet.

  15. Right on man gimme a place to read about this if you have a link. People could never tell by looking but I was 465 when I started. I'm a big boy with a ton of muscle. Offensive lineman type of guy. I was always quick and pretty agile for as big as I am too. Was finally starting to slow me down and cause me problems though. Want to get to 225 and be a hard body again like when I was younger lol I went for a physical and everything came back good. I mean EVERYTHING! It freaked me out cuz I was surely expecting bad news since I'm not as young as I used to be, so I decided it had to be a sign that I have a second chance and better not fuck it away. ;)

Oh and I never say I'm on a diet LOL I just say I'm eating healthy hahahahahaha

I did the Keto diet for quite a while back in 2008. The first 7-10 days sucked ass, but after that I just stopped having an appetite for carb-laden foods, I would go to the mess hall on base and eat 4 plates of food for lunch nothing but meat and veggies and I freaking loved being able to eat as much as i wanted.

I'll scrounge up some of my old sources I used and send you some links.

Ah, then you know what I mean. The hardest part about the diet was keeping the stove clean from all the grease flying out of pans, and actually eating enough to put on weight since I was using it as a bulker at one point. It felt like all I was doing all day was frying eggs and hamburgers.

there are many dieting plans you can follow, some are easier some are harder and if they are good ones, the results are analogous. Since you have quite a lot to loose, if I was to advice let5s say my brothjer, I would say to start with an easy one, like relative low fats etc, then a harder one like "the zone" and finally a ketogenic one like Dukan. http://www.everydiet.org/diet/dukan-diet
I did try Dukan twice for the last few years and was able to bring my body weight from 190 pounds to 155, 5f 11inches height. I am 43 years old, so no optimal hormonal state, work out since I was 16 and wanted to have ripped abs for the summer. That took me exactly seven weeks. 35 pounds might be somewhat easy for you but for my initial bodyweight is a lot.
For reasons I don't see any point into discussing in here, I believe in frequent meals instead of a few big ones. Olympic level athletes also follow this way.

I agree with the frequent meals TASOSCHATZ, the Olympic level athletes I have worked with have obtained much better results eating in this way.

This is nice because it gives a quick overview and also calculates how much protein/fat/carbs would be needed.

This is a site for "kids" on keto due to epilepsy. It's the recommended diet for those with it. But, the recipes work and taste good:
