Ok miss naive, I have had two pits. First was am bulldog and red nose pit, got her as a pup. She was the smartest, most loyal and loving dog I had ever owned. She loved to play with other dogs, and get this, kids too. Not once did I ever come home to a bloody mess, and we lived on a ranch with horses, cattle and other dogs, black labs. My 2nd pit I have now is still just a puppy, 12 weeks old. Very smart, good temper, and plays with my kids AND cat. I think it is just sickening that people can sit back and flap their jaws about a breed, discriminate a breed because of a few stories on the news. You will never know how awesome this breed is if you never take the chance to truly know the breed. My sister had a cockerspaniel that was extremely protective, territorial and actually would attack my pit all the time. I've had a wire hair terrier that was the same way. Should we put those breeds on a ban list, and slaughter them down to extinction too? GET YOUR TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS! WE'RE HAVING COCKERS AND WIRE HAIR TERRIERS FOR DINNER!!! Jesus, people just have their heads too far in the clouds. Dont worry, its not your fault society has brainwashed you. Good luck hun.

Very well stated!! I couldnt agree more! Those ankle biters are the real problems, those lil buggers are mean. My sis had a cocker that was one of the meanest "lap dogs" I have ever been around, my wire hair was the same way. I've been "held up" more by smaller dogs than the pit breed.

  3. I was taught they were originaly the Same breed but they wanted a show line as well as a working line so then
Staffys were bred for confomation & Pit Bulls for Drive and temperment, they started out as the same breed but are far from the same breed today.

  4. As far as these dogs having to be dog aggressive I disagree, these dogs want the same thing all dogs want
" Direction & Disapline " yes most Terrier breeds are a bit scrappy with other dogs but when corrected can get along fine with other animals but most people chose not to correct this behavior and on the same page if it's encouraged it will become a monster.

x2 Negative .... They will either get along or they won't some can and some can't and some will only tolerate certain dogs but anything with these dogs is subject to change at the drop of a dime you don't dictate or modify genetics through training ... Training will give you as the handler control of your dogs but it won't change their genetic makeup or instincts you have to be smart enough to know when to pull the plug if the dogs are becoming aggressive with one another that's a sure sign that a fight is to follow and you should immediately remove the dogs if you have enough time to do so. It shouldn't surprise you as they are a dog aggressive breed anyway no amount of training changes that. I can control my dog as long as he is leashed and other dogs do not get too close to him but I can't guarantee what he would do once I drop the lead and let him loose to run with other dogs I have a pretty good idea though LOL.

good post. i think one of the really good things abt the post is the part abt making sure your dog never gets loose in public.i know its sad because most good pits can easily be off leash fetching with no problem at a park but unfortunitly it is in their nature to destroy dogs and if someones lab mutt runs up and starts shit with yr pit, when the shit flys it goes really high. imagine being in the middle of public trying to make yr pit release, if you dont have a breakin stick it wont look good. your dog will instantly be in the wrong and it will show up as another "pitbull" attack. i brought my pit mix in a open public park not a dog park and a loose chow mix ran up and tryed to mount my male, the dogs lip got ripped off and the man tryed to say my dog attacked his for no reason. luckly witnesses stood up for my dog. thats a rarety. guy with rabits and sheep and dogs, i would seperate yr pit from them to avoid heartbreak. if play ever does turn into a scrap while yr not home i dont think yr pitbull will be able to stop himself from doing what he will injoy once he gets started and that wont stop after he kills the dog. its not abt saying rather you trust a pit or not, we cannot have the luxery of slack, this breed is on the edge and anything that happens will be bad publicity and that is the last thing we need. i want to buy a nice pit with a good bloodline in the future but if people keep letting slip ups happen, no one will be able to own them legally. i love pits, but i wont let my dog put himself in situation to look bad or repersent badly, even tho its a mix we all know that in the report it will say " pitbull "

  10. I agree to an extent.
Like people have been saying, these dogs were bred to fight and bait. This has been bred into these dogs.
What I'm afraid people are not getting, is that anything that has been bred into a breed, can be bred out of the breed.
People all over have been over breeding this breed;some people being selective in temperament ;some not giving a crap about either parents characteristics or temperament and breeding purely for cash.
Given that statement, it can go 3 ways - More aggression - Persistent aggression - Lowered aggression.

These days, I think there is a larger number of people breeding Pit Bulls not only for the money, but are also doing it with a tiny bit of good intentions. (And No, I am not justifying their actions)

You honestly just have to think about it.. It is a lot easier to get two dog loving pits to mate, rather than two dogs wanting to kill each other. Especially with all the mounting, etc.
Also, although it is possible for two aggressive dogs.. I think people are just too lazy anymore to deal with the effort.

I think the "nicer" Pit bulls out there are a reflection of Submissive + Docile breeding.

The ones in the middle are frankly a continuous shift between docile and what some may call "Normal Pit Behavior".

The more aggressive ones, which not many have been seen nowadays, was just a desire for abnormally aggressive + abnormally aggressive mating. Because that was considered "Cool" awhile back.

It's just honestly the norm nowadays to continue to alter behaviors to be as docile as possible, which even the BYB's have picked up on.

All in all, just because it was put there, doesn't always mean it will continue be there. Characteristics are always subject to change and are never constant.
Pit bulls are pretty much just a shell now with whatever you want to put inside.

I know this was an old thread, but I just had to say it.

Oh lord, here we go again...I'm tired of hearing people saying that you can easily get an APBT or other bull terrier breeds to get along with other dogs or animals or, as some pet bull owners like to say "its all in how you raise them."
It's just ludicrous and irresponsible to think that just because you have obedience trained your "pitbull" and socialized it with other animals that its natural instinct won't surface again someday and that it might kill your other dog, cat, pet rabbit or whatever other animal you have raised the dog with.

I don't understand why some people who own APBTs absolutely want people to think that their pitbull can get along fine with other animals for the rest of its life. Many accidents couls be avoided if people just started to use common sense. Pitbull/APBT= breed selectively used and bred to be a FIGHTING dog. Not to have canine companions and oher furry friends...
You don't see people who own Jack Russels, Patterdales or other terrier type dogs try to make their terrier dog get along fine with rabbits or rats!
I have heard so many stories of people new to this breed and that didnt even own game bred APBTs that had their "petbulls" kill their other pets its not even funny.
They all act surprised like "how did that happen?" LOL

Second that shit right there! The more mofos realize it can happen at anytime anyplace and for any reason even if the same scenario has played out many times before.... It can still happen..... Just be mindful of your dogs sake, they are our children.... So protect them and don't allow a bad situation

I am not being a smart ass & it may come across as ignorant but I gotta ask...from what I've read, are you telling me that my APBT pup will fight my other dogs no matter what I do? Again, I'm not being a smartass, it's an honest to God question.

It really depends on many factors. More than likely if it is from working lines it will end up getting a little older and will challenge and dominate the other dogs, if they are lesser breeds it could end up fatal. Sometimes you can, most times you can't. I have done it successfully for years but never could get more than 2 to get along at the same time, I dont even try it anymore. More times than not, you'll have an incident.
