    Silly_Uke Pup

My pit bull, a little over a year now, is having issues being calm. It's probably because she is still considered a pup, but she gets really hyper. Especially when she sees new people. When people come to visit and she's inside, she will instantly jump on them to say hi, lick and bite, not hard, on their hands and I try and keep her down, but she wiggles and is just really happy. I mean, I'm glad that she's not being aggressive or fearful, but I don't want her to knock anyone down...

When I'm on the computer, sitting in my chair, she will try and sit on my lap, being a 50lb. dog, that's kinda hard, but she will get on my lap and sit there. I don't mind sometimes, but she's too darn heavy.

Also, she goes after the cat, the cat tells her no, but she doesn't listen. It's the same when I punish her. She will do something wrong, I say no and spank her, not hard, and she thinks I'm playing.

She's not very good at listening either. I train her with treats to "come here" and even with that, most of the time, she won't come close enough. Only when she's really hyper and wants to play will she come when I call her.

She also likes to bite, not hard, like play biting my hands. I try to teach her to play with the toys, not my hands, but she destroys most of her toys. I give her water bottles, she loves them, but then she will get the cap, or the ring underneath the cap and try to eat it.

Again, she will eat stuff, little things, all over. Little things that are sitting on the floor, stuff in the carpet, we dunno what half the time. We feed her and everything.

Also, she has been doing this alot recently, peeing on the bed. I dunno why. I take her out. But another problem with that, when I put her outside, as soon as I close the door and walk away, she will stand up and claw at the door, and whine like a hyena, she has opened it a few times (Glass slider door) so we have to lock it so she won't open it. We have to stand outside with her in order for her to go, but even with that, she will sometimes take forever to go. And when we think that she doesn't need to go, we take her in and then she goes in the room like 10 mins later.

I really wanna try and train my dog better, my mom is threatening to give her away if I can't handle her and that would kill me...she is a lot to handle, but I love her to death...any help on any of these problems would be greatly appreciated...I know it's a lot, but I need help...

You got to be smarter than the animal you're working with.

You should probably keep a rolled up news paper on hand all the time.

it's a pup acting like a pup . be more strong with your voice . and don't give in to them . house breaking if you take them out every hour they will learn . and always tell them they are good for going outside . these dogs have alot of energy .some of the things it's doing is because it has to much energy . walk them more . the biting on the hand . close your hand to a fist so they can't bite on your fingers . but everything it's doing is just what a pup would do .

correct you have to understand the dog you own and work(exercise) him/her. it sounds like you dont have any type of exercise program for you and your dog. you know i cant remember were i read it from, but if you over feed your dog and satisfy that hunger in them and not train or exercise them it spoils them and makes them somewhat disobedient. i always exercise my dog except on off days before i feed him. if you got a dog inside it doesnt matter the breed i feel that the dog has to earn his food. this also makes the dog know that you are the boss and are in control and more welling to listen to you better. A tired dog is a happy and trainable dog and you will see a huge difference in the dog in the house garanteed and your mom wont hastle you about the dog. your dog will also pee out side if you walk it arround the house alot quicker than if you just wait for it to pee or poop in the backyard, give it a little short walk. you have to give a little more time to your dog especisally if your liveing under your parents house. i would not recommend less than a 1 mile walk with your dog atleast 4-5 times a week. you can do it by bike, rollerblades, electric treadmill if your not keen to exercise yourself. It basically boils down to feeding at a schedule time once a day after the dog works out and you giving the right time to your dog especially since it is inside. Tire your dog out real good and you will see a big difference.

it also sounds like the dog is in the house all day right? at a year of age you should be feeding once a day and you can start giving a bit less than what the bag is telling you to feed by now. set the time for your dog to eat the food you are giving it say 6am, 5pm whatever its your life pick a time that is good for you to feed. you should notice that your dog will have two bowl movements in a 24 hr time period. pay attention to the times and make it a habit to bring them out at those time. for example say you feed at 12pm your dog will poop the next day at 6-8am and again say arround 10-11am and then you feed again at 12pm. as far as peeing goes take the water away from the dog at no later than 5pm for the rest of the day until you have things figured out and the dog is peeing at set time intervals. im saying take the water away becasue it is inside and not an outside dog which you never would want to do. the bitting and that stuff will go away with the exerciseing of your dog and a little trianing. right now your spoiling you dog and the dog needs to start learning that food is a reward and not a required must as mest up as that sounds.

biking and rollerblading is dangerous to do with a bulldog . your just waiting to get hurt . hand walking is the safest way . sure people do it . but they will get hurt 1 day and know it's not a good idea . and when you wreck your most likely will let go of the dog .

lol very funny yes you are right. you better be somewhat of a good biker and somewhat strong and even at that make sure you are ready to hold onto the bike and the brakes lol. it is a bit easier if you live in the country than in the suburbs or right in the city becasue there are less to activily run after besides the occasional rabit out in the country for the dog to run after. definantly not the best idea, but can be done. you just have to set the pace and if the dog gets to pulling hold firmlly on the brake. heed the good warning though that was mentioned.
