Get ur 22" dubs off and put some mud grapplers on also stop pretending your a rally driver all the way to the house I know it can be tempting. Then trade the wifes prius for a bobcat. A winch is useful for so many other things so I'd get that u can always take it off and put it on another vehicle. A traction pad/ramp that you can carry the back of the truck for the time being. Back to the big city with u!

Its a lot of work but a little at a time and you'll get it done. First you need ditches to run the water off. Preferably on both sides with a slight crown in the center of the road/drive. The better it runs off the dryer your road bed will stay letting it hold up better. After its graded and compacted the best you can by driving over it when its dry, you need a good base. We use what they call a #3 rock about the size of your fist here. With a good layer of them (enough to cover the dirt so you cant see it) then drive over them for several months to compact them and build the base. There'll be places more than likely that mudholes will develope in the soft spots. If your ditches are low enough take a mattock and trench from the mudhole to the ditch to drain the mudhole. Fill the hole and the trench with more #3's. This will let it drain and not get soft. If the ditches arent low enough to trench, dig out the #3's and all soupy soft mud/dirt out of the hole. Fill and compact with dry dirt. Clay works good here. Then fill it back in with #3's. Drive over this base and work on keeping it dry by doing this to any problem areas for a year or so. After you see that you have all the problem areas worked out put down a 3-4 inch layer of dense grade. Here its #57's (rock about the size of a pecan in its shell) and a lime dust mixture. Drive over this for several months compacting it. A tractor and grader box comes in handy now for knocking down high spots and filling low spots. After a year or so of doing this and fixing any soft spots that might show up we put a 2 inch layer of plain #57's down. I'll guarantee that will build a road that will last around here. Ever so often you have to put down more #57's as the road compacts even more and gravel disapears. If the road has a steep grade heavy rains can cause washout spots that you'll have to fix. On a steep grade I'll take the mattock and put a trench diagonally across the road if water is wanting to run down the road instead of going in the ditches. This makes the water go into the ditches and stops washouts. Dont be scared to make the trenches deep and wide. Fill them with #3's. #3's are big enough that water will filter through them because they dont compact as tight as smaller rock does. The faster you drive on gravel the more it shoots out from under tires putting it off the road and filling the ditches. Dont know where your at or the type of dirt you have. It might be a whole different ball game where you're at. Look around and find someone that works construction and builds roads in your area and ask how they do it. Thats the cheapest way a poor boy like me can do it. At work where $ wasnt a problem we used heavy equipment and could build a good road in no time. Get it done and with a little matinence you'll have a good drive. Keep the ditches clean and flowing. Best time to work on the ditches and mudholes is when its raining. I know its hard to stay out of the bars on rainy days but we got to make a few sacrifices for the finer things in life. lol Like not getting stuck! Sorry for the long post and I hope you understand my mumbling. lol Just trying to help. All this takes time. As for now I would get a decent portable winch and enough tow straps, chains, cables or whatever it takes to reach something to winch yourself out. If you get stuck bad block n tackles are a big help. We've buried 4x4's in "sucking mud" that it took 3 more 4x4 trucks and two winches to get it out. Funny how much work a bunch of drunk rednecks will do to have a little fun. lol

HAHAHAHA! That had me laughing, ursa! No fancy rims on the truck, I have stock rims but some mud tires are needed for sure! Wife drives a Equinox and not a prius lol. Bobcat would still be ideal but she'd take forever getting to work in her bobcat lol. And I do need a winch really bad so that is a given. Didn't think of a traction pad or ramp though. I might have to buy/make one. Sure appreciate the suggestions and the laugh also!

Bgblok, I sincerely appreciate that post and all the helpful advice you left in there for me! I truly do! I'm going to copy/paste this and save it on my computer so I have this as a guide. I appreciate the info on the size of rock you use also, that will come in VERY handy. Thanks a lot for going into detail the way you did, it means a lot to me! Just a fyi, I don't drink so I'll be out there clearing ditches next rain lol.

Right here is what you need. 88 Jeep Comanche 4x4 sweet truck The 4.0 I6 is good for at least 300.000 mi. if you give them a little care. Used low mileage engines are plentiful and Jeep Cherokee parts will mostly interchenge w/ the Comanche. I've been looking at this one for myself. Got the free use of a lift, hoist, and all the tools and help I need. 1990 jeep comanche need gone fast

Yea, it's still a Toyota though lol.
Never heard of those Olddog. They sure are ugly enough to belong out here in the woods lol. I might have to look into something like that. At least it's not a Toyota lol. Thanks a lot!
LMFAO Now this was what I was looking for, PMD! I think a video would be very helpful for me to understand fully but I surely get the point lol. Mud's 2X4 suggestion and this one are spot on for what I was looking for. I know not all rednecks can afford 4X4 and all that fancy stuff lol. But I know they don't sit stuck in the mud either, they get er done. Much appreciated, PMD!

Put a set of grips on the back and learn to drive. Slick mud is like driving on ice. Speed is not always ur friend. At the same time u need to be ready to lay on it when needed. Driving on muddy roads with a 2wd is an art. Spent many years running around the farm like this. Got stuck more than once also. If u get a good winch for ur atv u can pull ur truck out easy. Moto alliance offers the 5k pound viper with a snatch block for lil over $200. U will be amazed what u can pull with that.

Much appreciated, Shotgun! You were one I was hoping would chime in. LOL @ learn to drive! In this case it was totally my fault because I stopped to let a truck pass on a single lane dirt road. When I was stuck one of the neighbors stopped to check on me and he told me there was only 3 spots on the road that you can stop for passers when it's muddy and where I stopped wasn't one of them. He told his wife, "he looks smart enough to not stop here". LOL True story. HAHA. I'll look into that witch. Thanks a lot, Shotgun!

There is an art to driving on mud. I have gone down some bad roads in a 2wd with slicks. A good set of buckshot mudders will take u a lot further. The tricky part is learning when gas is good or bad.
