Thoughts on this dog?

This little lady was recently at the local shelter. Now, let me begin by saying I am no pro at judging what is or is not standard, but I was pleasantly surprised to see something other than a 80 lb. pit bull in the shelter.

Any thoughts on her structure or overall appearance? She weighed in at 44 lbs when this pic was taken.

There is no real point to this post, other than to gather the opinions of members here at GD...in an attempt to learn more.

She looks good to me, a little heavy but she looks young so it's all good ;)

Yeah..she had been at the shelter for at least a month, getting minimal exercise.

The first thing I thought of when I saw her was Lil Bit (keep in mind I don't see a lot of dogs that are true APBTs, so Lil Bit was about all I had to compare her to)

She was a handful...that's for sure!

Yeah? I would think vizslas would be pretty rare in these parts (at least a hell of a lot more rare than an APBT), but you know more than I do...so...

I'll put it this way...given the area I live in and the kind of people who live here, I KNOW there are some game dogs in them hills somewhere.

very pretty girl....just out of curiosity, did she make it out of the shelter?

Negative. Too much dog. Only a few people (including myself, and I don't even work there) could handle her.

She was in no way, shape, or form aggressive. She WAS however very mouthy. She was convinced that boots, jeans, arms, and hands were all toys to be tugged on. The shelter considered her a liability and that was that.

The shelter, on a whole, however is very understanding of pit bull type dogs and they do there best to adopt out great dogs to great homes.

Agreed - looks like a bulldog to me.
Plenty of ADBA type dogs with longer snouts.

Well I looked after ultimatek9 said something, never seen one of them dogs :o

  15. That's what Soji was labeled as when I got him...yeah right!! Vizsla my foot!
I see no Vizsla in this dog either. I work with and handle dogs of all breeds every day, so I know about breeds, and this dog is as much a Vizsla as I am a Linebacker. Just sayin.:o
Sad that she never got adopted.:(

She needed the right home, and unfortunately everyone wants "easy" dogs.

    She was a good girl.

I see no Vizsla in that dog either...

Has the ear set, head, and structure of a bulldog...I would assume if it was mixed with Vizsla it would have bigger ears and would be leggier. The only resemblance I see is the color.

    But I could be wrong.

That's funny. Because she looks extremely similar to a purebred vizsla that runs on our flyball team.
To me her head is too pointy and her muzzle too snipey to be just a pitbull. But whatever. Congrats on your position as a linebacker!

She's too bulky, her head is too wide and she has too short legs to be mixed with a vizsla. There are many APBTs with longer and snipier muzzles. I don't see any vizsla in her...

My dog was once a purebred vizsla too, lol... On our walk we walked by a woman that was talikng on the phone and she said to the person on the other line "omg you wouldn't believe who just passed by me! A gorgeous Hungarian Vizsla!". I just started laughing out loud... :D

It's sad that she never was adopted... With an active dog like that it wouldn't be hard to redirect her attention to toys and stop her from biting shoes and sleeves... :(

Here is another dog that is posted as a pitbull/vizsla mix. They look alike to me. BTW, they are not all that long legged. My friend's Vizsla is only 20 inches and 50lbs.

It's a shame that she couldn't find someone that could handle her. She probably would have made a great tracking/narc dog, since a high tug/toy drive is greatly desired.:(
