Thoughts on Rottweilers?

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by pitstop_Seb, Apr 13, 2016.

  1. I recently got a working line rott, pics below [4 months, around 33 pounds 21" at withers]
    Pics here

I was really curious what the Pitbull community thinks of rotts?

Nice looking Rott especially with his tail still intact. Its ironic though that the UK banned pitbulls but not rotts as Rotts on the average are more human aggressive then pitbulls.

  4. The first dog I ever owned was a Rotty named Missy. She was a good dog. In my experience Rottweilers are a bit more on the calmer end compared to bulldogs. They make great house and watch dogs because of their willingness to protect. I thought about getting one for my children at one point but got a bulldog instead. As Saiyagin said she was HA and would not let anybody within 10 feet of me. Nonetheless I loved her. Good looking Rott by the way.

  5. Yeah Its weird but even though rotts are legal and pitbulls arent I see more pitbulls. And I mean pitbulls not staff crosses - some guy was proudly telling me how his brother imported his dogs from cali and had pictures of their pedigree. It just proves how easy it is to import those dogs

Yeah shes really calm most of the time, and I REALLY like that about her.

If that is the case it also proves that the RACIST BSL does not work.

On a shore assignment when I was in the service my roommate was a K9 Cop. He was all in the dogs. He worked with a Malinois when we roomed together. I got out in '93 and he had just imported a Rott pup to do service/schutzhund work. About a month after he got the puppy he got a change of duty stations and I ended up with the puppy.

A few months turned into a year and then he was mine.

All I knew was bulldogs and zero knowledge or interest in service/protection work. As he grew he had drive out the ying yang. There was club near here and I experimented with him. I got hooked on bite work. It was a case where it was way more dog than owner and the club steered me along the way. He did exceptional bite work, awesome obedience work but he was not into tracking and I did not have the ability to teach/train.

He ended up being a great dog. He taught me a lot more than I ever taught him. Bite work is awesome.

I am a big fan of any dog who does what he was bred to do, or what he was trained to do.

Slim , I was wondering if you were going to chime in.Nice little story. My sister has some Rots but I never been around her dogs much so I don't know the quality of them. She had one that was a year old tangle with a bobcat and he killed the cat ,but the cat got him pretty good in the mouth.Ripped both cheeks and he had to get several stitches.

I have only had one so I am not sure if that counts for 'Rotts in general'. My buddy paid for him out of the ying yang to get him here. I can remember another buddy paying $450-500 for a bulldog back then (late 80's/early 90's) and thinking that was way high. (I was cheap back then too). By the time he bought this puppy, shipped him from Austria, paid for the quarantine time once here, I bet he had $2K tied up in him. I was driving a truck that cost $2K.

The dog did turn me on to another venue in dogs. Before that there were only three dogs in the world. Bulldogs, coon dogs and rabbit dogs. Pretty obvious what each were for.

One of the funniest things was when he sent me the papers. He called him Jodiah, we called him Jody. I would have to get them out but his name was like Jodiahousen von something or another in Austrian.German or something. I had a dog whose name I could not spell nor pronounce.

Like I said, he was far more dog than I was owner for that venue. I learned a lot about dogs from that group of people. It turn it helped me with other dogs as well. He was a great dog. His ability to learn from my mediocre skill set was amazing. I bought videos from Leerburg.com, watched the video, and went out into the yard with a new lesson for him. He picked them up with ease.

If he is indicative of a Rott then they are great dogs. It is hard for me to lump them all together only owning one.

I bought my 1st Rott back in 1987 . His name was Chance , I am here to say He was a 1 family hound. You would not come in the gate with out my father, sister, or myself putting him up. He was from true German working stock and very expensive as I paid 800.00 back then. A hell of a guard dog, very loyal to my family, yet would eat a none family member ass up. He was killed by a Apbt in a accident.

  11. Seems very unlikely that a APBT [average weight 45 pounds] would kill a male rottweiler [120 pounds].

I do get that pitbulls are amazing fighters but arent they usually paired up according to weight? I really doubt a pitbull could take on a rott which is almost triple their weight, no matter how good of a fighter they are :\

That APBT proved himself well i guess!

It can and has happened. If the Rottweiler cannot finish early then a good APBT will be too much for the Rott. Same with most other large breeds that are not bred for gameness.

  14. Yea but do you guys actually have any evidence? Because physically it makes 0 sense and you guys are obviously bias since this is a pit-bull forum :s

I typed in "pitbull vs rottweiler" and a bunch of liveleak videos came up of bitbulls getting destroyed by rotts - not that I support dog fighting. I was just curious if what you guys are saying is true.

I am highly suspect of the quality of APBT u watched .A quality APBT can take any dog out ,no matter the size.Like has been said already if the bigger dog can't finish quick he is a dead duck!

APBT have beaten rotts over and over. Not speculation, facts. Size is one tool in a fight, speed, endurance, athletic ability, etc are others. Dont think that just because you have one tool u will win.

  17. So a 45 pound pitbull can take out a 220 pound turkish kangal which has a 750 lbs bite force? Triple that of a pitbull? Smh
    [IMG]

A pit wouldn't last 5 seconds, these motherfuckers fight wolves - i mean fight wolves.

Also the videos are watched can be found here

Pitbull would will and can beat a rott. Pit bulls may be smaller pound for pound much stronger it's not fair to match anything with a pitbull but another pitbull. IMO there is no comparison.

All the garbage on the internet is usually from 3rd world countries and set up by idiots trying to prove their national dogs are better than the American dogs as some sort of misguided attempt at national Pride.

I had 2 males. I had a friend that stationed in Germany. He was in the Army. When I got out of Marine Corps I sent him the money to buy 2 pups and send them to me. Two days before he was going to ship them he received new orders to report back to the USA. So he brought them back with him. Saved me some money. 1 was named Baron Voltar Von Kimbertal. An the other was Sarg Keil Von Kimbertal. They got along until they where around 1 or 1 1/2. After that I had to keep them separate. Both were very protective of me and my family.
