    Re: midnight cowboy blood

I hope this is constructive criticism for the future. It's meant to be helpful. First, I think you might be better off searching out people who were either privy to those dogs and what they were, or someone reliably close enough to them to give you honest info in order to enlighten you. I think that being directed to such is more beneficial than just directly asking people of whom surely 99 to 100% have no insightful info on those dogs.
Maybe more importantly.......I think it to be also ill advised to acquire any dog BEFORE you find out these things.
I understand your wanting to find others who also have dogs "down from" those dogs. BUT.....that doesn't give you any insight into the dogs themselves. After all, YOU are one of those who have dogs down from them, and YOU don't know either. Just some advice for the future.

Its been discussed before but those are old ass threads. the skull/scream stuff hasn't been able to hold up over time. very watered down. theres some good skull blood out there kept true and some very tight skull/scream breedings but that was mostly bred for paper. Llantas was big around the time which drove sales/people trying to recreate him but that stuff doesn't have staying power and wasn't kept up to very high standards.

There is still lots of it around, i wouldnt say they dont have staying power, i think the folks that have them dont have culling power. They breed them untested back to back to back to sell. Just like most things that are out there. DY had some real good game ones down from that stuff and there is still lots of it around. I can almost assure you will have to get lucky with what you can find out here before you get any of the true stuff with higher %. Majority of people know the flash name like Badger who was a decent producer for what he was bred to... Screaming Skull produced some decent dogs most I seen had heart depending on the bottom. I would also get some of the stuff down from Red Reaper, Scream II as them dogs when bred to some of the Little Buddy stuff had punch and heart for the days. In my personal opinion I would lean to getting more of the dogs down from Skull x Scream that were Red colored dogs, as that stuff seems to pull more of the Duhon blood out of them and they perform like Duhon blood. Not all just what I've seen with my experiences but I'm no master at nothing just a guy who likes to pat a dog on the head sit on the porch and drink a cold one.

Yes I hear you Rock n Rye. Badger was a good producer and Miss Skull too.

The line doesn't have staying power and thats in large part to how its being bred. There have been some good dogs but many can't take the pressure. Frazior if you got some stayers with them being bred like that you're definitely in the minority. Haven't heard much good about the dramacide stuff when some real pressure is put on. Good luck with them.

  9. Dramacide aint got nothin to do with either, Floyd was bred before Drama even got Stealth and will die on my yard. Greed came from Bardwell. I dont have hard full of this line but these are keepers. I have went thru my share of Skull blood and other lines. Only believe what u see and half of what u hear! I have seen bullshit Frisco, Luther, Jeep/Redboy, Hammonds, McCool, and on and on. Pretty papers arent important over this way.

Definitely bullshit in every line. From the stuff I've seen and heard about from men/women who's opinion I listen to, personally I don't most of the skull/scream stuff percentage wise. Most bred too tight for wrong reasons. I like the skull blood a lot and have seen some real good ones. Just the ones I keep aren't bred that way. Glad you found yourself a couple of real good tight skull/scream dogs you're proud of.

Cant comment on what Drama is doing with theirs, I can only speak on the ones I know, owned or seen. Trust me there is plenty staying power and a Buddy has a yard of dogs that derived off the Scream x Skull breeding and linebred off that breeding and they are stayers... One just showed it few months back and back at it again. If you ask him he liable to tell you the dog is a Chinaman red boy jocko dog because he dont want nobody knowing his peds. Just like any other line, if folks are doing right by it and breeding by what they want from it they will have it. Some yards prioritize gameness and i know of 2 full yards down off that breeding that do and I can say of the 11 seen, none have quit and 3 I personally seen hit the 2hr mark. They are in top notch hands, and even he doesnt like a 2hr hound but he has been doing it with Eli hounds for years and got a gift from Badger stuff and went and chased down the skull x scream stuff.. But that's just those folks I'm sure its a 100 others screwing it up.

I doubt anyone commenting on this thread has ever owned, seen or had any personal experience with a Skull x Scream dog. People like to broad brush or stereotype a line based on hearsay or something on the internet. Sure there are quitters in this line just like every other but if you think this stuff doesn't have a bottom or think it wont hunt past the 2hr mark you wrong.

I second that! People love to repeat clichéd statements, or don't use watered down dogs then. LMAO

I've been impressed with skull dogs more often than not. Can't comment on scream as most I've seen have very little if any of it. But I've seen some real nice skull/jeep. The problem I see is heavy skull dogs are slow starters or cold. But the cold ones throw fire.

St. Ides- that has been my experience with the super tight bred Skull stuff. Slow starters yes. 2 out of ten are hot early the rest stay puppies a long time. Patience is required for both types

I learned early on, and saw the fruits of patience along the way. Over the years one would be best off using a proper degree of patience as it applies to all aspects of these dogs no matter it's breeding. Patience, however, is something one cannot teach another. All one can do is explain how important it is, and why.
