And they say combat sports are cruel. Naturally the HSUS hypocrites aren't trying to ban Thoroughbred racing, they just call for it to be "reformed". If a Thoroughbred breaks a leg, it will probably end up dead. By contrast, very few dogs die in the square.

 

I always ask, what happens to the losing or hurt horses?! Nobody likes the answers...

When I was a small boy horse meat was eaten by a lot of folks, mainly the poor people.
Nowadays '' it is not done'' to eat horse meat in the eye of the general public but there are still some butchers to find who sales it.
Those butchers are dying out and there only a few still active at here.

 

My mother told me there was a shortage of beef after the war, Britain was still on food rations and mostly the only meat available was horse, she said you could tell the difference straight away since beef fat is white and horse fat has yellow tinge to it, also told me horse tasted stronger?

Got an older pit and bully guy (named Rudy, lol) in my street who was selling horse bone marrow to me. He said put this on wounds and no scars will be seen.
Worked well. My dogs did not looked untouched, but still ok, I guess.
But they can't sell it anymore since BSE.

I was feeding a lot of horse to my dogs. Almost pure muscle meat. Great stuff.

 

I liked them horses as a kid. My mom one day made roulades (?lol). I was asking what they are made of, it tastes different ...
She said horse ... I almost killed my mom. lol I never touched those roulades again.

It's good dog food mainly because it's not full of antibiotics and steroids ? High protein, less fat.

 

Horse meat tastes a lot better than a dog or cat according to my grandmother who has experienced two world wars, god have her soul.
She baked the tastiest horse steaks ever for us.

 

My wife half Dutch FWK.. From around Leiden area , Catholic family with 15 children, lived under Nazi occupation, grandfather was a butcher, tried to help out friends and neighbours with scraps and bones, where they came from who knows? Hungry stomachs easy pleased!

 

Until recently I was getting knackery horse meat for the dogs for 20 cent a lb it’s much darker meat than beef with very little fat. Great summer feed.

 

Dam I would have to be a vegetarian.

Thankfully I've never experienced not having food available but I tell folks all the time, if I was starving my oldest dog is going on a spit and I wouldn't think twice about it.
