    Another good read.

many, many years now i have been a Pit dog fancier, a Game chicken fancier, race horses and also a fan of the fight Game, and have felt that there was a Champion of Champion in all of them. our subject being dogs, i will try to describe what, to my mind, was the most complete fighting dog that looked through a Collar. one and the same, was a 29lb female named nervy that i purchased from john p. colby, some ten or twelve years ago. she was a dark mahogany Brindle with a white head and china blue eyes. she was very close coupled and possessed strength rarley, if ever found in a 29lb dog, and yet, in condition would fight as long as the battle would have to go. nervy was advertised open to Match against any man or combonation of men, while in my hands she defeated beuther's crazy judy in 23 min. this battle took place in louisville, ky. nov. 15, 1925. bert sprague was Referee. on march 10, 1926, i fought her against a dog that was claimed unbeatable. this was the famous zabel's bob. in 1 hour and 19 min, nervy won. ed rubel was Referee. aside from the battles she won, she was given a test that one dog in a thousand will stand and live through. i have purchased dogs from all over the country and have owned many good ones, including snowball, man-o-war, dick, old lady, tornado jack and others in my life, only her would i consider flawless.

  2. Blue eyes? I thought true bulldogs were not supposed to have blue eyes....

Blue eyes are acceptable UNLESS on a white dog without pigmentation on the skin. .. as per the ADBA standard.

i know they have pink eyes or pink nails and be all white

  5. See I've been told by several old dogmen that blue eyes are always considered a fault, and you won't get them in true bulldogs.

I looked up the ADBA standard the other day because someone asked me the very same question and didn't seen mention - but today I looked it up on another site and saw the white/blue fault you mentioned (but that is simply pointing out albino as a fault).

The AADR seems to gloss over the subject of blue all together, saying rarely you might have green eyes - but no mention of blue being a fault or not.

However, the UKC forbids them and calls them a fault on any color dog.

Always neat to hear more info...

  6. Pink eyes is a sign of the dog being an albino - it is not desired at all. Not sure if you are saying it is?

  8. I'm not talking about confirmation.

I'm talking about the fact that I've been told by several old timers that real bulldogs don't have blue eyes. If you have blue eyes, you either have a mix or a faulty dog (for example an albino like StopBSL mentioned). I was curious how true that was....

That doesn't have to mean I'm talking perfect confirmation - I'm talking about a basic thing. For example you will also hear that you won't find a real bulldog with a blue coat. The blue coat obviously is a sign of introduction of mastiff blood. (Not saying the coat or eyes are related at all, just using an example that maybe you'll understand better.)

blue coat don't mean mastiff their is game blue dogs. all blue is a diluted black. sayin' it is impossible for a "real bulldog" to have blue eyes is ludicrous. nothing is impossible.

Looking at nervy's record above in that story, if true thats a real bulldog whatever her eye color is or should I say 'pit dog'
